Time to Heal

Rate this book
Hassan sat down next to his mom and dad as he stared vacantly at the grave. He felt numb. His other siblings were behind him, sobbing quietly. The imam began his sermon. Hassan’s mind started drifting off. He wondered if the body inside the grave will be okay. Will he be lonely? Will he be afraid? He wondered if the body can still hear them. Hassan’s own tears rolled down his cheeks. He felt a lump in his throat. The tragedy has shreds the heart to pieces. Hassan never knew pain like he was experiencing at the moment. He took a deep breath to calm himself. As much as he wanted to scream and wail, he didn’t. He couldn’t. He needed to be strong; for others. Hassan learnt about death at a young age. It was death that made him decide to be in the medical field. Will he be able to make peace with death or will he continue carrying the guilt of being alive?

Ni lah yang malas bila habis baca buku Norhafsah Hamid . Mesti nak lagi 🙄 I hope she’s writing about Nieza or Superman right now.

“He repeatedly told himself that it was the natural progression of life. Everyone will die, one day.”

Its basically the background story of Hassan and his life in general, and how his friendships with Nieza and Amy begins. Its so warm and I found myself awh-ing, smiling and giggling most of the time because the sense of humour and of them bullying each other like siblings. They are literally The Musketeers or The Three Stooges if you want to call them that. The friendships turned into a family bond. Hassan’s parents, Maria and Nick loves them like their own daughters and the three of them takes care of each other. While working as an oncologist in the Hospital alongside Nieza and Amy, Hassan is battling with his personal issues after losing someone that he truly love and cares. There’s turn of events after losing a couple of patients and he is once again developed by deep sadness, guilt and sense of longing towards that special person that he lost.

We got to witness and learn from him fighting his way through the situation the right way according to Islam. It is indeed a painful but fulfilling process.

“He was finally home.
Time.
Time was what he needed.
Time to make something of himself.
Time to heal.
Time to grow up.”

There’s flashbacks of Hassan’s childhood in the beginning of each chapter which I think make the best addition into the story. Several conflicts and interesting in-between plots are also fun to read. Which I’m obviously not going to share here 😂

If you find its hard to go through the death of your loved ones and are affected mentally because of it, if you love fluffy besties kind of thing that looked out for each other, strangers to family trope, self-growth, get this! This is something different altogether from her previous books that contained romance. No romance in here, but you’ll swoon over Hassan and…..Mr Superman! and also, prepare tissues! you might need it.

"....No it doesn't. If we get angry with God and complain about it then it means that we're not being patient. God won't be angry if we cry because of the pain we feel. Tears are also a blessing because it makes us feel better, sometimes."

as much as i tried to love this book, i find myself feeling quite disappointed after finishing this book.

the first 25% was interesting, reading about how the friendship between hassan, nieza, and amy bonded over the years in liverpool. i ADORE their platonic friendship A LOT, how nieza and amy are like family to hassan, even hassan's parents loved nieza and amy more than they loved hassan (see what i did there). aND CAN WE TALK ABOUT HOW OF A HUSBAND MATERIAL HASSAN IS??? anybody who does printing services please print hassan out to real life so i can marry him tq

as the story went on, i was intrigued with what's gonna happen i kept wanting more and more but not much really progressed throughout the book. im surprised at how it was slowly getting boring and im more surprised that it took 189 pages for something to actually happen, rather than just the backstory of hassan & hussin and the friendship progress between hassan, nieza, and amy.

the last 25% got me praying to God that the author will reveal backstories to some scenes in the book, or kinda like explanations to it, bcs if there werent any, i'll be disappointed.

and i AM disappointed. the absence of explanations to the scenes such as when , or , why did all these scenes seem to me like it existed just to make the story longer........ i mean it's quite unnecessary? some suspense element but it didnt really add any value to the story, and the fact that the ending didnt resolve or address any of those previous scenes, hm

phew. that was plot-wise. now, i respect the author for putting extra effort for the glossary and reference at the end of the book. so many inspiring quotes and hadith that reminded me of some things that, you know, we tend to to forget.

to conclude, this book is good for beginners. the writing is super easy to follow (from someone who prefers easy writing over lyrical ones, i actually skimmed through the book most of the time). im also giving credits to how the author SMOOTHLY included islamic reference in most of the scenes, which is a good thing. however, if it wasnt because of all those, i might rate this book lower.. honestly there was nothing really going on in the book, plot-wise.

i would also like to conclude that this book has a targeted niche, and that if you pick this book up at the right time, it will hit home. if you've recently experienced loneliness or lost someone because of death, this book might resonate with you.

thank you so much to @imanpublication for sending me a free review copy in exchange with a book review!

After reading 'Time to Heal' and 'Will You Love Me?' by the same author, I guess Norhafsah's novels are really not my cup of tea. Similar like 'Will You Love Me?', I could not see a clear plot in 'Time to Heal'. The story is so flat and dry. I could not feel the emotions. Other than that, I guess 3/4 of the story is just like reading the characters' daily routines like what they do, how they feel and who they meet.

Next, the drama is so childish. Even though the characters were portrayed as successful Muslims in the UK who work as doctors, reading the argument between Sally and the trio felt like watching 'Mean Girls' movie.

Almost all non-Muslims characters were understanding, open-minded, and non-Islamophobe. All of them were willing to learn. After that, they'd be like, "Oh! Now I understand why." Without the drama, it's so boring to read. As far as I know, there is Islamophobic issue in the UK. Isn't it amazing if the author picture the issue through the characters as well? Just create la one or few patients do not want to be treated by doctors who wear hijaab or Nieza being harassed in the public due to her identity as a muslim.

Now, allow me to write in Malay for a better delivery. The main character is Hassan. He has lost his twin due to cancer. Itu sahaja struggle dia. Tapi dalam cerita ni macam nak cakap dia terpaling diuji. Meluat rasa. He is living life on easy mode kot.

Lastly, some of dialog and description are cringy. Which adults on earth talk or behave like this?

"(Hassan was cooking curry lamb. Amy and Nieza reaction was this.) Amy and Nieza looked at each other, "Yummmmmms," said both Amy and Nieza as they grinned. Nieza rubbed her hands together, gleefully. Amy did a jiggly dance."

Next, on page 153,

"Assalamualaykum! Eh, ustaz Hassan, what hello, hello?" chided Amy. Nieza tsk-tsked and shook her head disapprovingly at him.
Seriously the author uses the word of 'tsk-tsked'??

Truthfully, many of the scenes are cringe. First, when Hassan's mother recall Hassan's childhood to Amy and Nieza. Second, when Amy mistook Hassan's cat as hairy satan. Third, when they were trying to irk Sally the mean girl by calling her real name 'Salimah'.

In a nutshell, I'm letting go of this novel at RM20.

They're really nice and close together like siblings.
✿ Cerita yang diselitkan dengan ajaran mengenai the beauty of Islam.
✿ A lot of life wisdoms ❤️

“Time what was he needed. Time to heal. Time to grow up.”

A journey of a boy through his adulthood in handling grief, whilst having religion as his guide.

Personal Ratings : 3.5🌟

Grief is something that is neither a friend or an enemy. It will be with you till the end of time. Its a story of Hassan’s life journey-of-sorts, of him growing up with losing his twin brother. A journey of lost and self healing, and finding yourself again amidst the pain.

Personal Thoughts

This was a read that literally is like its title, that grief takes time to heal, and wounds are something that cannot be mended overnight. This is my first book from this author and it was an OKAY read for me. There are many things that I can say about this book, but mostly, it was definitely a slow read. In a sense that, we get a glimpse of Hassan's life journey, which makes it a mellow, and I don't mind it mostly, but there were some parts that felt a bit too unnecessary for me.

There were a few things that I liked about the book and I appreciate the time and effort that the author had done into including it in her book:

✨ The Quran excerpts ✨
I LOVE every Quran reference in here. It honestly made my day as each line that has been referenced hits to the core.

✨Characters✨
The characters in the book was just loveable! Hassan is a character that we can’t help but love and HIS FRIENDSHIP with his two friends were the cutest my heart cant even :’)

Moving on to some things I felt a bit meh:
- The dialogues in between were a bit too awkward.
Honestly, this was what ticked me off most about the book, ESPECIALLY the first half of the book. It felt so ....... Generic . That's the word I can put it. The dialogues don't feel natural and it was something that I didn't expect to encounter, hence why I was a bit put off with this part.

-I liked the sentiment but there were also some scenes that were unnecessary.-
The second half of the book was amazing, and whilst the author wanted to highlights aspects of friendships and how Hassan handled his grief, there were some scenes that were just toooooooo long :') Don't get me wrong, I LOVE a mundane, no-plot-just-vibes reads, but this was not executed well in my opinion and I was a tad disappointed as it could have been better.

Overall, was it an okay read? Yes! I loved the conclusion at the end and I think the second half of the book won me over as we can see Hassan’s flaws as a character and how he grew. The second half where Hasssan went unhinged is something that I liked, in a sense that the author took the angle that at the end of the day, he's just a human that needs time to heal for himself.

“Unpopular doesnt mean valueness”. What a missed opportunity and let me tell you why

Time To Heal (I supposed) is to bring you to a journey of how Hassan and his family dealt with the lost of his twin brother, Hussin. Because of this tragedy, he changed his ambition from an architect to a doctor, hoping to save more lives. Cliché? Well, that’s fine for me. But what the book doesn’t tell is HOW HASSAN LEARN TO CONTROL HIS GRIEF, HOW DOES HE HEALED FROM ALL THAT?? Only mentioned once or twice but mostly, we can see Maria, his mother who went on her life remembering the pasts, of when both brothers were small and mischievous. It’s sad to see how a mother witnessed her healthy child turned sick, but my friends, Maria isn’t the main character here

While pursuing his medical degree, Hassan met Nieza & Amy and the trio became inseparable. The theme of friendship is obvious here but again, a wasted opportunity because the time Hassan spent with the girls is more than with his patients. I wish Hassan could learn about grievances from his patients (sorry but their diagnoses didn’t sound serious so I couldn’t get emotional reading it). And if the author wanted to convey the message through his friends, well, THERE ARE NONE! That small accident & Mr Superman? What a joke

So you see, I have no reason to be attached with these characters. The writing is so good at prologue but it wasn’t consistent towards the end. Plot? Mundane and repetitive. Nothing serious going on until the last 50 pages, which doesn’t satisfy me either

I like the attempt of giving Islamic input but it’s like watching advertisements in Malay drama, the dialogue sounds forced & pretentious, who talk like that in real life? Naurrrrr

Sorry but I am utterly disappointed with the settings used, seems like a lot more researches to be done if you decided to make your main character a medical doctor…

All in all big thanks to @imanshoppe.official for sending me this in exchange for an honest review! I got feedbacks from others saying this isn’t her best work so I shall venture into another next time ☺️

Time to Heal - Norhafsah Hamid

Tahniah buat penulis!

“There are always blessings even in hardships.”

A delightful and grasping read to start the month with. It is a story about grief, loss, growth and of coarse, healing. In here we follow Hassan, whom lost his twin brother to cancer and his healing journey throughout pursuing his and his late twin brother Hussin’s dream, on becoming a doctor with the intention and goal to cure more patients.

I personally adore the writing. The author includes a glossary and sources regarding the knowledge of Islam, as well as excerpts taken from the Quran. It’s great how even non muslims can read the book and gain more information, as well as it being a soft yet firm reminder to us muslims.

plot-wise, i did get confused about it on the first half of the book, but fret not, the second half is literally amazing. read it in like 2-3 sittings. knowing me, i did however expects more drama and it’d be great to see how the characters handle them (also mHM i nEEd to know who threw the rock towards Nieza and the mysterious secret admirer 👀)

Characters? love them to bits. i love Hassan, Nieza and Amy’s friendship. their bond is so strong i just adore reading their journey together. of coarse i cant forget Elise, Elana and the rest of the family. beautifully created ❤️

i’d say this is a really perfect read this Ramadhan hence if you’re clueless on what to pick up next, Time to heal is an option in mind 💫

Time To Heal is about Hassan, who lost his twin Hussin to brain cancer at young age. Holding to Hussin's request, he aimed to be a doctor and met Nieza and Amy during his first year of his medical course .

- I'm an avid reader of this author, starting from Letters To God series and when Amy's universe was announced, I was so excited!

- I really love Hassan, Amy and Nieza's friendship. Their first meeting was not a pleasant one, but after minutes into the quarrel, they became siblings already. Yes, just like that!

- This book talks about how you manage the grief, especially when it drags in you for so long that you haven't let go the feeling. It's when you thought you have got over it because you have to be strong for the sake of your family, but when certain events trigger you, you realized that you're still in the loop.

- Personally, it's hard for me to read a book with themes of death and grief, particularly with me understanding exactly how Hassan is feeling. People do say that time will heal, but I don't think it will. You will always feel that that someone is still with you.

- However, I also know that in order to keep living, we just have to go through it. While you're accepting that they are no longer here in this world, you keep them with you and let your memories with them be your catalyst in bettering yourself each day.

- It's a topic that I have made peace about, but I thank the author for bringing it into light, as you can see it peels some layers in my mind.

Aku disappointed jugak la dengan buku ni mungkin sebab aku put high expectation kot. Aku ada la tengok booktok, some readers menangis so aku expect akan menangis ke sedih ke tapi... Tup tup eh habis dah cerita? Hahaha

Aku need more explanation tapi buku ni seriously mendatar. Sometimes aku pun tak paham kenapa some plots ada dalam tu sebab macam insignificant. Macam tak bersebab je.. tergantung. Aku mengharapkan character development tapi aku rasa macam characters hanya melalui kehidupan seperti biasa.

Writing style memang off bagi aku bukan sebab grammar error ke tapi first time baca aku cam.... Eh? English tu tak sampai ke lubuk jiwa aku. It's too easy. Macam karangan sekolah yang dapat A+ gitu. It's not bad cuma bukan writing style yg aku suka la.

So, overall aku bagi 2⭐ jela.

Sebab dialog nya semua cringe 😩

Saya memang tak faham macam mana buku ni rating nya tinggi di goodreads.

Setiap orang ada citarasa tersendiri kan. Nasib lah buku ni pinjam dari library saja. Terasa macam turn off nak baca buku Norhafsah Hamid lagi, tapi takpelah mungkin boleh cuba sekali lagi.

The writing is so bad, it feels like reading a primary school kid's essay.
There are grammar errors here and there, which makes me wonder whether this book has been proofread or not. Up until the end, we still don't know who attacked Nieza and who gave her the chocolates and flowers. Who are Hassan's siblings? Overall, it's not worth the read and the only thing I look forward to is finishing this ASAP and moving on to another book.

{22/2022} 4/5🌟 Fiction

I read this book by accident, the reason why I didn’t have its physical copy. I read it not once, but thrice, but that’s another story.

If you have been following the writings of @norhafs, you would know the characters are inter-related between the books she wrote - but this one is a standalone.

Reading this book has given me all the kinds of emotional roller-coster that I did not expect at all. “Time” is indeed the key that ties everything in the storyline because only through time, we can heal - and it does not matter how long, because it takes time, to heal.

Though the characters seem to good to be true in reality (deep down, I wish for a friendship like Hassan, Amy and Nieza 😭), you couldn’t help having those “nummy-nummy” feelings especially during their sibling-like banters. Being a woman myself, I know a lot of girls would want someone like Hassan to be a part of their group, especially when you are living faraway from your family. Hassan is so protective and caring, and his family is such a bonus!

The story is interwoven with a series of flashback about Hassan and Hussin. Who is Hussin to Hassan? These series of flashback are certainly my favourite parts of the book as they always have that connection to present Hassan. Present Hassan has problems of his own, and behind his cheerfulness and playfulness only on the facade - what actually bothers him? Who needs time in order to heal?

I felt connected to the story because I am still in the process of grieving, but I am slowly healing. The passing of my mama ten years ago, took a toll on me and I understand what Hassan is going through, which also means, this is a book for those who are trying hard to heal themselves and think that you are all alone feeling all kinds of feelings.

It uses simple languages which I think would be suitable for teenage readers too. Plus, the storyline revolving around Hassan, Amy and Nieza during their study years as medical students would be a very good motivational booster for our young readers who have dreams of pursuing education overseas.

Most importantly, it teaches and recognises the feelings involved when someone is in the process of grieving, sad, heartbroken, frustrated, mentally tired or on the verge of giving up; the feelings that our teenage readers are struggling with a lot nowadays.
.

However, I kind of needed more back stories about Amy and Nieza too, so I was a bit frustrated when I did not get much story about these two girls - but I guess, the author has her own reasons. Yeah, I know, the unfinished business with Mr Superman too!
.

I love the content and the writing style of this book. It has all the k-drama nuances but very much syariah-compliant. I certainly can see this as a drama series because it reminds me and gives me the vibes of “Cinta Korporat” and “Cinta Antara Benua”, some old TV3 drama series with London as their background setting (I am ancient, I know! 🤣).

Time to Heal is a story about Hassan who was in grieving phase after he lost his twin brother, Hussin. Hussin was a young boy who was died due to illness.

Hassan promised Hussin that he will be a great doctor to find a treatment for other patients and help to save more people who was sick like him.

Throughout his journey as a doctor, Hassan indeed a great and talented doctor. He's very skilled but when the time comes, one by one of his patients finally returned to Him. Since then, he felt that he was failed. He can't save them.

This is a light story and very suitable for a beginner yet still have a lot of inputs and lessons to be learnt. What I love about this book is, how the writer emphasize an islamic way of living in Hassan's life and how he overcome his reality with a proper consultation. There's surah indicate for each chapter that kinda related to the story of its chapter plus with the help of glossary and reference from hadith and Qur'an make it more full of information.

The plot construction was very steady like you're reading a journal/diary of someone else life. The language used in this novel indeed understandable and elaborate well.

Friendship goals between Amy, Nieza and Hassan make it the core of this story more strong. They're always together through thick and thin. They never crossed a border and always reminded each other about practicing Islam plus always be respectful for each other.

For me, Hassan is such a lucky person in the world! He have a good people around him and always care for him. Having a parents like Nick and Maria was such a blessing in life indeed!

We're all human surely will be tested by Allah. Allah won't test us beyond our capability. It's to test our faith in Him and always remember that Allah never leave us alone. Every struggle we faced, do give us much pain and it's hurtful but Allah's plan is something unseen that we do not know. It does have the reasons behind it. So, we ofcourse need our own time to heal and grief. No matter how long we take we just need time to heal. 💖

This book really teach us that being a good doctor isn't about saving their life but it's also giving them a knockout about the quality of life we have in our borrowed time.

Reading this weeks after I experienced another loss. Time is what I needed and I took my sweet time to finish this read. It's a slow read for me, but I do enjoy the friendship of Hassan, Nieza, and Amy. I'm glad none of them are dating and I love the dynamic of their friendship, they're like brother and sisters, looking out for each other. I enjoyed their banters, and Hassan's character. But I wish there were more to the stories, like we know Hassan has other siblings but it's vague, the only one mention were Hussin. And Amy has a story herself, I can't help but wonder what's with her. The kepochi in me wanted to know more. And I wish the author gave me closure for Nieza's attacker, like who, and why, and what happened to the attacker.

In conclusion, it's a light and fun read. Salute to Norhafsah Hamid for her dakwah through her writings. Kudos for @biblio_mom for gifting me this book.

tbh, the writing was partially the reason why i didn’t rlly enjoy reading this book 😭😭😭 i mean aside from hassan’s heartbreaking past and the difficulties he faced (which made my eyes teary 🥹), i wasn’t rlly fond of the phrases the author used.

there was one phrase she used n it if i’m not wrong it is smtg related to a lump in his throat or smtg to describe what hassan was feeling and in my opinion i felt that she repeated that phrase too much 😭😭

but nevertheless the it was a lovely read <3 learned so much from it 🤍

take me almost one year to finish it. Because i found it hard to read because of the repetitive context or situations. Idk how to explain 😅 but because I bought ‘will you love me?’ I push myself to finish this first and actually I love the trio’s story. Quite simple but full of lesson about life.
Will comeback to read some of the lessons!

Here comes another great story from this author. The title itself already defines the whole story. I believe that every one of us must have gone through something tragic at least once in our life. So, what do we do in order to heal? Yes, we surely need... time.

This story follows Hassan's journey on how he slowly learns to come to terms with his past—his grieving to be exact. Once, he had a twin brother, Hussin whom he really loves. They were always together until one time, Hussin was diagnosed to be having cancer. Hassan felt that all the happiness was taken away in a blink of an eye. He learnt about death at a young age. It was death that made him decide to be in the medical field.

𝑻𝒊𝒎𝒆.
𝑻𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒉𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒆𝒅𝒆𝒅.
𝑻𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒆 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒐𝒇 𝒉𝒊𝒎𝒔𝒆𝒍𝒇.
𝑻𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒉𝒆𝒂𝒍.
𝑻𝒊𝒎𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒈𝒓𝒐𝒘 𝒖𝒑.

Hassan is very strong in my opinion. He portrayed his characters really well. At first, he started off as someone who is naughty & cheerful along with his twin brother. Then suddenly when that tragic thing happened, he had to take the responsibility to be the only child for his parents. He feels like he needs to be strong for others the moment Hussin passed away although his heart was broken into pieces.

Being a doctor himself, is already hard enough for Hassan as he needs to deal with the loss of people's life almost everyday while he is still in the process of coping with the loss of his brother.

The flashback scenes... broke me. 💔

Again, I envied the 3 musketeers' friendship so much. Their chemistry is proven especially during their siblings-like banters. However, what I truly respect for the 3 of them is the fact that they still set their social boundaries right between a man and woman even though they're in a foreign country. And I believe that should be applied to all of us too.

Oh yes, Nick & Maria (Hassan's parents) are the perfect side characters in this story. I love how both of them don't discriminate things and give the same amount of love towards Nieza and Amy as well. Such a great blessing. Hassan is so lucky indeed.

But I must say, the font for this book is actually pretty small compared to the first book. So, I kind of need to hold this book closer in front of my eyes in order to read the entire story. Perhaps in the future, hope that this issue can be solved 😅

I believe this book will be pretty much of help especially for those who are in the process of grieving, mentally tired, holding a burden of guilt on both shoulders & trying hard to heal themselves. Yes, sometimes we do need a longer time in order to fully heal our hearts. Yes you will heal, it just takes... time.

Time to Heal

🔖 Short synopsis: As the title suggest, this novel is all about grife, healing and finding peace. The story follows Hassan’s journey of coping with loss after the passing of his loved ones. Overwhelmed by grif, he struggles to move forward and trapped by guilt of the past. But through new friendships, family support, and faith, he slowly learns that healing isn’t about forgetting, it’s about accepting the past and embracing the future.

Thoughts!

> After reading 2 books of Norhafsah Hamid, i noticed that her writing style is very simple, straightforward and drama-free. It is very suitable to those who wants a really light reading with positive-but-not-so-strong impact.

> That being said, it is understandable why some might not enjoyed this book. The pacing? Super slow at first. A lot of focus on daily life, random encounters, small moments and etc. I’m assuming that the author wanted us to truly immerse ourselves in Hassan’s world and build an emotional connection with the characters. But honestly? Some parts felt unnecessary and dragged on. Boring la.

> What i LOVED the most was the family and friendship dynamics. It was so heartwarming to see the genuine love and support between the characters. Those bonds truly carried the story and the only reason why i kept reading it.

> One big takeaway from this book is to grive properly. Give yourself some time to actually process all emotions. And then slowly pick yourself up again. Healing isn’t about rushing, it’s about growing stronger.

Would I recommend??
Honestly, it’s a hit or miss. I enjoyed some, I got bored some. So it’s giving an “okay lah boleh lah” read for me. If you love slow, reflective stories with a touch of spirituality, you might like this. But if you prefer fast-paced drama, this might not be your cup of tea.

(TMI: if hassan keeps his hair short, he’d be my #1 fictional men. i love his character so much. Someone get me a Hassan in real life, please 😭)

my honest rating for this book, Allahuakbar i cannot say. no hate intended, but the word i can describe of this book is its flat.

i could not figure out what the plot was for the first three chapters of the book. i remember not learning any important infos except from hassan is a twin who had lost his brother, comes from a wealthy family and is pursuing medic. what else?

the whole plot doesnt really affect me emotionally or anything. tell me how it was supposed to be a "relatable" book of how to deal with grief, but really i cant find it relatable at all, i really mean no harm and hate, but pure disappointment. there's no plot, the whole book is flat, no drama, just pure daily convos and meal sharing scenarios.

there's a lot of plot holes too, what happened to amy? i dont remember recalling anything abt rashid too, suddenly WAH MARRIED ALREADY?????? No salam no nothing tau tau got rashid in the picture and KIDS??? not even an introduction to the names of the newly introduced characters, and no in-depth detail of maybe nieza's clinic, just abt how the cat litter box is beside the loo. how funny is that Allahuakbar!

overall, i feel this book is purely just for the "representation" of muslim daily lives, but really doesnt impact readers in any ways possible. the dialogues are a bit cringeworthy, scenarios are out of sight, and not enjoyable. took me a whole month less or more to read because it was too tiring to finish. sorry for my harsh words, i truly feel the author can improve and im hoping she will, i had high hopes in the beginning too.

(sobbing) this is my first Norhafsah Hamid book, and i totally get all the hype, she's a really good writer and masyallah i love it when someone smart and knowledgeable apply all the knowledged in a book and make it so contented, usefull, heartfelt, and just make one’s writing games so charmss😭. At first, I felt lost, tbh I feel the sadness, I also did tear up but not crying CRYING you know?so i try to find where's the plot of this book actually, and when i finish i realise that Hassan finding peace with destiny and life is the plot (and I'm touched). I do have one critique (that i could think of atm) to give and that is, the way the writer portrays sadness and tragic moments is not good enough, like I could actually bawl my eyes out with those moments but she can't quite make that impact yet so sometimes even though i feel sad/sympathy towards the characters, I can’t actually force the tears out with a too rush/cut out moments. Lastly, I love her writing overall, even though the book felt a bit empty, dry and flat but I'm content with the fast-paced story. Sayangnyaa semua (almost all) character dalam buku ni😭❤️ (yela she protrays yang baikbaik je)

I love the title—it perfectly captures the essence of the book: Hassan’s journey of healing, faith, and self-discovery. The story beautifully portrays the struggle of overcoming trauma and finding peace through spirituality. With its simple yet engaging writing, the book flows effortlessly, making it an easy and meaningful read.

Reading this book feels like watching a medical K-drama—filled with hospital life, heartfelt friendships, and moments of personal growth. I absolutely adored the bond between Hassan, Nieza, and Amy—it felt so genuine and heartwarming. However, the slow build-up made me wait quite a while for the climax. It wasn’t until after Chapter 20 that I truly felt drawn into the story, and I especially enjoyed their conversations in this part.

Romance is barely present, but I do wish the author had explored certain moments more, like the mystery behind Nieza’s anonymous gifts or the character of Dr. Harris. A little more depth in these areas could have added an extra layer of intrigue.

That said, I had a great reading experience—especially towards the end, where the emotions really hit, leaving me with a good cry. Truly worth my time reading it. :)

2.5 star

jalan cerita sangat mendatar & takde plot.
basically cerita dia pasal hassan sedih sebab twin brother dia (hussin) meninggal. dalam hidup, dia just suppressed the emotion. then pergi liverpool belajar medic sebab dia janji dengan hussin. jumpa amy & nieza then jadi kawan. at the end hassan berjaya keluar dari kesidihan sebab parent elena punya gratitude. ada la sikit2 drama in between the stories but for me 'centu je???'

i kecewa maybe sebab i ada high expectation since 'will you stay' quite good. somehow i feel this story is insignificant.

also, i rasa this writing takde jiwa. plain. tak tahu nak explain macam mana. the writing is ok ok la because i can force myself to finish the book tapi rasa cam errrrr

A really amazing and touching storyline on Hassan's POV. This book has made me realize that with every hardships there will be ease. Every struggles that we go through we must trust in Allah. It has also made me feel confident to pursue in the medical field and become one of the best doctors like Hassan, InsyaAllah. Norhafsah Hamid's book always touches my heart and made me feel close to Allah. A definite reccomenddd

i read the "will you stay?" first before this one, and similarly to that book, i am not a fan of her writing 🥲

no drama, too flat and at one point, i just read this because my friend let me borrow it, not because i genuinely want to finish the book.

she made this book a bit hurt for my poor hearted soul. the way hassan felt for the whole book this whole time is so realistic, i could imagine the situation he was in and that js show how much i adore this book from the bottom of my heart. ☹️

Definitely mid. I was so excited to read this book, hoping for something ‘sad’ and ‘healing’, but I couldn’t even bring myself to finish it. Made it halfway and there was no strong plot or realistic depth that pulled me in.
