Max and the Magic Map: Italian Adventure

Rate this book
On discovering a special map in his home, Max is magically transported to the country he touches on. In this edition, Max is taken on an Italian adventure by a girl called Daniela. The colosseum and Trevi fountain are visited along the way and Max also finds time to enjoy pizza and pasta! Enchanting, fun and educational! My name is Daniel Ferrie. The idea of writing a book came to me whilst reading children's books to my son Leo. I particularly enjoyed books written in verse that were fun but also educational and I believe reading to children from the moment they are born is imperative. I had an idea of a character Max who discovers a magic map that can transport him all over the world. As a child I was always fascinated by maps and globes and the idea of other countries. I decided to make my first book an adventure to Rome in Italy. My inspiration for this was my wife Daniela who comes from an Italian family. Her dad comes from a village just outside Rome, so it is a place we have visited many times and one that I particularly love. The rhymes in the book flow effortlessly and carry the plot and themes brilliantly. The places visited along the way were carefully selected as some of my favourite sites in Rome and they provide children with an introduction to history and culture. Another pillar of Italian culture is food. As they say 'vivo per mangiare!' which means 'live to eat!' Max is also given an insight into foreign food and language. The fact the book is written in verse means they form the foundations of literacy and can help children learn to read. It also has repeated join in phrases that are consistent across the series. They can be used as a learning tool for countries, culture, history and foreign language. The book is for children ages from 3-8 years olds.
