This was my second time reading this. The last time was over 10 years ago (it was released in 2001) so I didn't remember any of it.

This is a romantic suspense that is heavy on the suspense and a bit lighter on the romance.

TRIGGER WARNING: child abuse and rape. There are no rape scenes. There is the start of one, ans it's the heroine's memory where she is able to get away from her attacker before he rapes her. There is a lot of discussion about the physical and emotional abuse that the heroine endured at the hands of her parents and then a lot of discussion of other girls that the villain raped and abused.

The suspense of the story doesn't really start til about halfway through. The first half is really about establishing who Genna is, what she endured as a child and where her and John's relationship is currently at. It's all written in a way that is engaging and I wasn't ever bored with it. I do wish the suspense had of started earlier in the book, especially since it's a romantic suspense, but I did enjoy it for what it was.

The romance also doesn't pick up til 60% or a little farther in. There is one sex scene, that is one paragraph long. It's not exactly vague, but it's also not very detailed. It's very clear what's happening but not explicit. There's little to no use of swear words.

I'm gonna keep on with my rereads of Mariah Stewart's other suspense novels! The next one in the series I remember being a favorite of mine and I hope my memory lives up!

Genna Snow told about the abuse she endured at a Christian camp, and helped many other girls come forward also. She has grown up and become a successful FBI agent, but never understood how her family and friends could turn their backs on her so many years ago. John Mancini loves her but abandoned her too, now he is trying to win her back. She finds that she is possibly now a target again, or maybe she is just paranoid because girls are getting kidnapped and she is on the team to help rescue them or recover their remains. This series starts out good with great characters and good suspense can't wait to read the next book in the series.

This is definitely a MUST read! This has more suspense with some light romance.

The “dark side” of Mariah came out in the suspense part of the book. Spoiler. It does contain child abuse and rape, but there are no detailed scenes you read. If is discussed by the FBI Agents.

Agents Genna Snow and John Mancini work hard to bring this evil person down.

The first part of the books gives you the background of Genna and John so you get familiar with their story. Don’t put it away, because midway thru the book the suspense kicks in and has you not wanting to put this down!!

Mariah Stewart is one of my favorite authors. I have read most of her books, but I went searching for the earliest of writings and I was not disappointed. Authors very rarely surprise me, but Voices Carry threw a couple little surprises that I thought were going to go a totally different directions. I also love how she finished out the story without just simply ending. I loved this book and will read again down the road.

I've read this book multiple times over my life. I first read it at 12 which was honestly way too young. But I was way too young to have gone through things that made me relate all to well. It was my first foray into really connecting with characters and gave me inspiration to carry on and do better. To do *something* with my life.

A bit cheesy at places, a bit dark sometimes, but nonetheless, an enjoyable read. It is reasonably fast paced, has interesting characters and a plot I could not decipher till the last moment, perhaps what the author wanted.

I won the first book of this series and immediately bought the second. I haven't read the rest of her books but I'll be looking them up as well. I liked the continuation from the first book and the redevelopment of Genna and John's relationship and the story of her childhood. Good read!

John ini muncul di seri Last sbg atasan all the hero, ternyata dibuatkan novel tersendiri & tdk masuk ke seri manapun. Sampai 1/2 cerita blm ada kasus pembunuhan yg menjadi topik utama di novel ini malah lebih bnyk ttg hubungan John & Genna yg naik turun yg sebagian besar disebabkan tekanan pekerjaan sbg sesama agen FBI. Di awal2 malah diceritakan bgaimana Genna kecil mengalami percobaan perkosaan oleh shepherd (sepertinya pengelola/owner) pd saat ikut perkemahan yg diadakan gereja. Proses Genna utk kabur & akhirnya diselamatkan oleh Patsy yg nantinya menjadi ortu foster, cukup menegangkan. Yg ironis setelah persidangan, ortu Genna tdk menganggap Genna sbg anak akibat kejadian itu. Baru di novel ini, hero/ine-nya ketahuan ending hubungan mereka.

Btw, pelaku pemerkosaan hrsnya dihukum mati atau minimal hukuman seumur hidup tanpa ada kesempatan utk bebas atau hukuman percobaan sehingga dia tdk akan ada peluang mengulangi perbuatannya atau membalas dendam terhadap korban2nya. Penjahatnya sih sdh ketahuan dr awal tp terakhir dia menyamar menjadi tetangga Patsy.

FBI Agent Genna Snow had a horrible childhood. Her preacher father was abusive and sent her sister and her to a summer camp where the counselor routinely abused the young girls until Genna blew the whistle on him. Gemma and another agent John Mancini were in love, but John also left her after a particularly hard case for him. Now they're having to work together on a case of several women disappearing. The women turn out to be the ones who also testified against Genna's tormentor and Genna will be the last victim. To save their lives, Genna must overcome the past and face her tormentor. Strange in a lot of ways, but well done.

It took the first 90-100 pages for me to get into this book. For a less-than-400 page read, that's a really long time to wait for it to get good. I almost quit more than once.

Once it got rolling, Voices Carry was pretty decent. It read like a police procedural on TV, complete with some short scenes from the bad guy's POV and even putting an FBI agent in danger. The crime committed Also touched on religious sins and hiding behind one's faith as a means of defence. Heavy stuff, especially given that the victims were young children.

Unlike the other Mariah Stewart books I've read, Voices Carry is a lot more mystery/suspense than it is romance. As a person who prefers the latter genre, I wasn't wild about this book.

I can't get enough of reading about serial killers - fiction and nonfiction. Mariah Stewart is a great author in this genre. This is one of her first in a series that is full of suspense, very compelling characters, and thankfully (in the end) good triumphing over evil!

Genna Snow, assault victim in childhood, now an FBI agent.

John Mancini walked out of her life and wants back in. Otherwise the story is about as contrived as I have read. This author disappoints here.

I loved this book. I loved Genna, John, Patsy, Crystal and everyone else. I couldn't wait to get to the end. Though the only reason I didn't give it a 5 was because I wanted to read an epilogue and too bad there wasn't one. :(

This was an "ehhhhh" book for me. Doubt I will be reading any more of this author. Not to say she is not a good writer, she is a fine writer. I just am not a fan of romance suspense.
