The thought of the Brotherhood is scary -- at least the Crusade just wanted to kill them, not enslave & control them as a commodity.
I do like Elise & Remy. She's still super stubborn & I want to shake her as well -- but she's a bit more relatable to me. :)

A red-head with a fiery temper, say it ain't so! Anyone ever met a red head without a temper? Elise Nicholson is a bitter, immature and lonely witch. With the loss of her surrogate mother and an increase in her magical powers, it is decreasing her powers of observation and cognitive skills. Elise is a bomb waiting to explode.
Ms. Saintcrow creates a different character for this third book in the series. Elise is mad at the world and she acts out against those who love her because she is in a pity party downward spiral. I am not impressed with Elisa because what she really needs is a swift kick in the pants to get her head out of her butt. Elise's issues come across more like a drama ridden hormonal teenager than a functioning adult. This is a counterbalance to her other two witchy friends. Those two, water and earth are calm, logical and nurturing. It seems Elise embodies her fire element with destruction, rage and lack of control. This is where Remy burst into the scene.
Remy is Elise's "Watcher". He is known as the Hunter for finding powerful relics aka talismans which in the wrong hands can wreak havoc. He is an alpha male who is looking for the witch he can yield his life to. Unluckily for him, it's erratic Elise. His job is to protect and server Elise - poor bugger. I like Remy because of several things. First, he reminds me of Gambit from X-men. I've always been a fan of Gambit whose first name is also Remy. Just like Gambit, Watcher Remy is also from the Louisiana Bayou with his sexy Creole phrasing and cadence. Second, Remy is appealing because of his past and what he did to become what is today - a Watcher. He's an honourable man dealt with a bad hand and yet he continues to strive for the righteous.
The two characters do have explosive chemistry and only together does the plot move forward. The readers learn more about Circle Light and perhaps it's not as bad as Elise accusing them of being. The story is filled with action pack demon slaying with plenty of power thrown around in fire bolts and climax not too different than an angry Jean Grey as the Dark Phoenix from the Marvel X-men series. Because of the familiarity in theme, trope and characters, this book is quite enjoyable, despite my dislike of Elise. Ms. Saintcrow's writing voice is seductive and exciting. This book is a page turner and made me want to read the next book in the series. This is a quick read recommended for those who like comic books, magic and happily ever afters.

Fire Watcher packs a punch with a fire witch with attitude.
Elise is a strong heroine that can bring her 100% to the table, making it an equal partnership with Remy...not some girl looking for her white night. Don't get me wrong Remy did have to play white knight but at Elise seems to have a good back bone.
Elisa attitude was fiery, but it was a little over the top and even alienated her from her friends.

I liked the pairing of Elise and Remy, although Elise's continual belittling of the Watchers did get old. I love Jill Kismet, so I enjoyed this alternate world Light versus Dark series.

Series is getting and better
There's still an element of wishywashiness out of the two main love interests here. The typical he couldn't love me, I'm not worthy as he is. The there's how could she want me after what I've done, become and my background. That element is pervasive is all three books but isn't what any of these books are about. Saint row is trying to make a point here that there is a dark presence protecting the light or Lightbringer as they've become to be known. Those with some psychic ability and are able to practice or do practical magic. Only these three Lightbringers or four if you count the teacher who is now on the other side of the veil (dead but still present and letting her wisdom be known beyond death).

I have to say that for some reason, I was expecting more from this author. This is the first book I've read by her. The 3rd person perspective through me off, not used to that older style. It wasn't a bad read, but it was definitely not above average. I'll probably give her another try in the future.

This was a wonderful book! I could not stop reading!
This book can be read as a standalone though it is in a series The Watchers. I love the books and am on to number four. I love this author. A must read of her books is Working For The Devil. Her books are great!

Watcher needed
As always the author batted a game winning home run. Hunter spent the time working to obtain a lightbringer. Thank God I was able to escape into their journey from the ever-changing world we live in with our own pandemic.

Third in the Watcher series based in Santiago City. The couple focus is on Remy and Elise Nicholson.
My Take
I guess I keep hoping that Saintcrow starts writing better characters. I do like the concept of the series and Saintcrow does write a nice homey sort of atmosphere. But I have a really difficult time with characters where I'm cheering for the good guys to die. Mari was so stupid in Storm Watcher and now there's the idiotic Elise. When she goes to the warehouse, I found myself hoping the bad guys would take her out.
Sure, it's kind of interesting to have some really hot warriors who can take out anything or any number of bad guys, but when they're so meek and mild outside of battle. I dunno...I do love their devotion, though.
Elise, well, Elise just irritates the hell out of me. Whining all the time, angry at everyone if they just look at her. She refuses to listen to anything anyone says. She's irresponsible—how old is she anyway, 10?—and the blinders she wears don't help much.
The route Saintcrow chooses to get Elise to understand that Remy truly is here to help was a clever idea. I did like that.
Oh, yeah, I can see how awful that is "Theo and Mari are both happy. Yuck...

An ancient magical talisman has been found. And not by the good guys. Remy missed digging it up by just days and now he's on its trail. One that leads him to his witch.
The Characters
Elise Nicholson is a fire wielding witch who sings with a band and paints. Her fire power has only increased her anger so that any little thing sets her off. I'd like to throw a match... Vann works at his Uncle Charlie's pawnshop when he's not playing bass with Elise and Trevor is a new member of the band taking the recently deceased Mark's place on drums.
Remy, a.k.a., the Hunter, is a Cajun boy whom the Circle Lightfall has had hunting down treasures and magical artifacts for some time now. Rescued from a wrongful conviction sentencing him to life in prison, he has become a Watcher, trained in battle and ignoring pain. Unless he should find his Lightbringer.
Theo and Dante came together in Dark Watcher while Mari and Hanson were the focus of Storm Watcher. Together, the three witches are the Guardians of Santiago City. Suzanne was their mentor and died in the first story. Abra is an Old One who sells information.
Lightbringers are witches. The Brotherhood is businessmen who want the power and artifacts to make money; the Crusade is a religious organization that wants to bring the Inquisition back for witches; and, the Circle Lightfall is an organization that wants to protect witches and psychics.

The cover looks like it's from a graphic novel with Remy poised to fight the rainbow-colored monster coming over the edge of a building in this confluence of brick buildings in a back alley.

Today’s post is on Fire Watcher by Lilith Saintcrow. It is the third in her The Watchers series. It is 183 pages long and is published by Belle Books. The intended reader is someone has read the first two novels, likes urban fantasy, and mild romance. The cover has the main male character Remy on it looking mysterious. There is some foul language, no sex, and violence in this book. The story is told from third person close of the two main characters moving as the plot goes. There Be Spoilers Ahead.

Review- We pick up right from the end of the last novel with Elise being angry and more than a little whiny about life. She blames Dante and Hanson for pretty much every problem she has because she is afraid of being left behind. Remy is tired of hunting for relics for Circle Lightfall and just wants to find his witch. Add in a powerful magickal talisman and we have our plot. The plot itself is interesting but I had a real problem with Elise, she is very whiny about things she does not understand and she does not even try to understand. Elise would rather just think that her friends never really cared about her and move on but because she is a Guardian now that is not possible. Remy helps make Elise more bearable as a character because he is so even and invested in making sure that everyone survives. All the plots are fast but I think that this one happens in the least amount of time over the novel. I am curious about how the series is going to be wrapped up in the last volume.
I give this novel a Four out of Five stars. I get nothing for my review and I borrowed this novel from my local library’s Hoopla account.

Elise Nicholson is a fire witch and plays a mean guitar but she’s lonely and skating the edge of control and then to make things worse – a Talisman capable of blowing the city sky-high lands in her lap along with a Watcher in this spellbinding paranormal romance.
Remy is a Hunter of Talismans but he’s been assigned to stand guard over a smart-mouthed fire witch who hates Watchers and the readers can’t help but get caught up in this inferno as things quickly heats to explosive proportions between Remy, Elise and the Dark. The chemistry between Remy and Elise is hot enough on its own but add in Elise’s fiery temper and readers gets singed as this relationship is one that could backfire before it even really gets started with emotional issues fanning the flames. These strong, bewitching characters grab the reader’s attention from the very beginning while the fast paced smooth flowing plot thrills readers with lots of suspense, excitement and romance.
The Dark has plans for Elise and the Talisman which places Elise and her friends, right in the path of danger building excitement and expectations throughout the story with the conflicting emotions that Elise feels for Remy adding lots of additional spice. The scenes are well written with vivid details that bring the story to life and make it easy for the reader to become absorbed in the story while the intriguing events ensure that there is never a dull moment.
There was no way that I could put this story down once I began reading it, it was full of intriguing magic and such vibrant emotional demons that I couldn’t help but feel for Elise and Remy but especially Elise so be prepared for some sad moments as well as exciting action and hoorah moments and I can’t wait to find out what happens next in this fascinating series.

I received an ARC of the book for an honest opinion.
This story is about Elise, a fire witch. She is a tough woman, as was needed for her to survive her childhood. Elise is having a rough time right now and doesn't feel she is getting the support she needs from her friends Theo & Mari. They have all lost a beloved friend and mentor, Suzanne. Her friends have also gained a Watcher, a protector, and she feels pushed aside.
Remy then enters her life as her Watcher. She is angry, very angry! She doesn't want or need a watcher but Dark forces have other ideas. If they can get her and the Talisman "Trifero" they will have power they never conceived of. As soon as Remy meets her, he knows she is his witch..the witch that will make his pain go away. She will fight him on all sides even tho she really doesn't want to.
Like many paranormal stories, some of the creatures have really odd names and it takes awhile to be able to connect that name and creature. In this story, we met several creatures around the same time and the names were boggling my head up a bit.
I felt like I needed to know a bit more about Remy, sure I knew his story and how he got there but was his fate to be a yes-man to Elise? A partner in life? I just didn't feel he was developed enough. I am curious about the other Watchers, Dante & Hanson and if their relationship was the same with their witches.
I think Lilth did great with the Dark. They really were vile creatures and you would have to be brave to face them.

“Fire Watcher” is the third book in the Watcher series by Lilith Saintcrow.
Based on the number of pages, I classify this as a long novella. Of the three I have read so far in this series, I liked this one the best.
Elise, a fire witch, doesn’t trust Circle Lightfall or the Watchers who work for them. It takes until around 14% to find out the goal of the story, but once it is apparent, the story stays nicely on track. Remy must protect Elise because the Brotherhood wants to get her and an artifact that only she can use. I liked that the story didn’t get sidetracked from the goal.
Remy has a hard time protecting Elise because she doesn’t trust or like him, plus she’s temperamental and strong-willed. I think that’s part of why I liked this one the best; Elise didn’t just roll over and let the Watcher dictate everything. She kept her own will and thoughts. Remy is also more likable than the other Watchers I have read about because he isn’t as self-deprecating as them. He’s not as hard on himself. He does think that he’s unworthy of love and he does have his moments of self-hatred, but it’s not as overwhelming like it was with the other Watchers in the previous two books.
I also enjoyed the unique creatures, which were well described. The setting descriptions are good, too. What I liked the best was that it was a sweet romance without any sex. It was a refreshing change. I give “Fire Watcher” 4.5 stars for a clear story goal, likable characters, and a satisfying ending.

Remy has a hard time protecting Elise because she doesn’t trust or like him, plus she’s temperamental and strong-willed. I think that’s part of why I liked this one the best; Elise didn’t just roll over and let the Watcher dictate everything. She kept her own will and thoughts. Remy is also more likable than the other Watchers I have read about because he isn’t as self-deprecating as them. He’s not as hard on himself. He does think that he’s unworthy of love and he does have his moments of self-hatred, but it’s not as overwhelming like it was with the other Watchers in the previous two books.
I also enjoyed the unique creatures, which were well described. The setting descriptions are good, too. What I liked the best was that it was a sweet romance without any sex. It was a refreshing change. I give “Fire Watcher” 4.5 stars for a clear story goal, likable characters, and a satisfying ending.

This was what I expected it to be. Nothing amazing but not a drag either. Elise is a fire witch, a Lightbringer and, along with her two closest friends, a protector of the city. Elise holds a lot of anger which ends up making her annoying. She feels she is the only one with a brain since her two friends now have boyfriends who are Watchers. She doesn't trust them or Circle Lightfall. She feels she needs to do the protecting, but to giver her credit, she is strong enough to do it.
Elise finds a talisman at a pawnshop and since it hasn't been with someone who could wield it in centuries, it becomes a fight for control between her and it. The Brotherhood wants the talisman and having a Lightbringer come with it? Even better!
Remy is a Watcher who spent all his time searching for lost artifacts for Circle Lightfall. He is finally given his first Lightbringer to protect and lucky him, it's the fiery Elise. For all Watchers, it is painful to be near a witch unless they are "the one." Elise is the one. He will do anything and everything to be near her and protect her, but strongwilled, bullheaded Elise will not stand for that. They finally come to a truce that she will allow him to be there as long as he obeys her. Eventually she learns to trust he can help and even learns to love him.
I'm sure I will read the next book someday. They are easy quick reads but not a diehard series you have to continue.

Fire Watcher - book 3 in Lilith Saintcrow's Watcher Series. This time Elise, the rock n' roll "fire" Lightbringer is in the center of some big trouble. Luckily, Remy comes in as her Watcher to make sure she survives. (Does anybody else love that Remy has that cajun drawl to his voice? Honestly, every time I read this book I hear the guy who did the voice for Gambit on the '80s X-Men cartoon. FYI: He was also was the actor who played Caine's son on Kung Fu:The Legend Continues). Anyway, Elise's temper almost alienates her from her friends and almost gets her killed as well. Luckily, Remy and the other Watchers are around.
Good book. Recommended.

This is the third book of the series and I think in some ways I liked it best. The heroine was not so stupid as her counterparts in the previous books and she had power she was not afraid to use which made it a bit better story for me.
Remy and Elise were an excellent couple and the interplay was perfect.
The story and the lead in for what I expect in the next book was done well with no feeling of a cliffhanger (which I would have hated)
Bottom Line: Excellent plot, excellent continuing overarching story, interesting characters so what more could you ask? 4.5 Stars rounded to 5, highly recommended and probably deserved a better review than i have written here (hey, I got the flu)

I started out this book with such high hopes. The main character, who I couldn't stand in the first books, was actually understandable. While I didn't agree with her actions, I got where she was coming from. Then, of course, it's ruined by slipping back into the set up of weak, helpless little woman and a big, dangerous man who, while convinced that he's not worthy, also is convinced that the woman he loves cannot take care of herself. Even a woman who starts off strong, if angry, is reduced to someone who can't take care of herself at all and will behave foolishly.

I loved Remy he was possessive without meaning to be, "mine. My witch. Thank the gods she's safe. That was too close for comfort." He knows how to calm his little witch down it just takes some coaxing, "we will find a way. I promise. You might cause a car accident if you keep making the windows steam up, hmmm? We will find something to do, Elise. Just trust me I promise, but for right now, tranquille, shh, hush..." I liked this book there's no naughtiness in it so it's safe for young adults to read.

Fire Watcher was decent. Elise is out to push those who love her away. She's a strong heroine but it goes over the top and puts in her into a downward spiral. Then we have Remi who can sense powerful talismans. To me this one was better than Dark Watcher and Cloud watcher but I feel the characters annoying traits get exaggerated and you get tired of the hero and heroine almost acting like children and the world is so out to get them because they are gifted.

i love elles, she has a great firey temper but never with one she love but she miss her friend and teacher suzanne. then remy turns up who she cant trust as he a watcher but he proves to her its her he is interested in and will protect her at all costs.
i read this book and enjoyed it so much i read it in a day.

Great dialogue and characters, but the plot had a certain flatness and, dare I say, triteness? (Extremely handsome man with a really bad past and guilt about this past devotes his life to protecting special women ["Lightbringers"], hoping to meet "his" special woman, who he will devote his life to protecting.)

You see what she'll became (She being both character and author), but she's not there yet. Santiago and Abra were a nice surprise for the Dante Valenine's fan.
The plot is exactly the same of the previous two, and the next two books too. The heroine is slightly better, but it's potential only. At the end she's emasculated like the other ones. Pity.

I think this is my favourite so far, mostly because Elise is able to take care of herself and Remy. They're more of a team rather than the Watcher having to take care of the childish innocent Lightbringer

In this third in the series there is a shift from religious based evil (the crusade) to power and greed based evil (the brotherhood). The fire witch makes her own stand against the evil but the Watchers still prove their worth.
