You can’t escape the inevitable…. “It was like he could read me like an open book. His dedication was almost alarming, but I was undeniably drawn to him. It wasn’t just that he was the most beautiful boy I’d ever seen. Or that his voice could cause my body to melt into a warm puddle of goo. He really got me.” Carina Lombardi, a vibrant New York University student, can’t shake the feeling that she has known the irresistible—and at times enigmatically intense—Jared Taylor forever. After all, she’s had her eye on him for years. Or has it been months? In a compelling story where time is relative, read how Carina and Jared fall in love, forming a nearly unbreakable bond that will inevitably be challenged over and over again. Will their love prevail or will fate step in the way? Kate Bennett has enjoyed immersing herself in fictional worlds for as long as she can remember and is ecstatic to bring you her first novel, Inevitable. She has traveled to sixteen states, five countries and three continents. Kate lives in Pennsylvania and is currently working on her next book.
Inevitable was an amazing true blue LOVE story!!!!!!!!!! Unbelievably good! I do mean Blue so girls have your tissues ready. This is a very unique story and I don't want to give anything away so writing this review is a little challenging. To start with I loved the story and loved the characters. Carina, was fun loving, good friend, strong willed and stubborn. She made me laugh, cry and want to shake some sense into her at times, but she didn't know any better. Jared was my hero! so handsome and swoon worthy and also the ultimate in amazing boyfriend department. I so enjoyed watching their relationship grow, and unfold into something we all hope, and dream to have our own true love and soul mate. Wonderfully written, kept me up late and anxiously anticipating what would/could happen next! Thank you Kate Bennett for such a wonderfully crafted story!
mild language Does push the limits in the clean romance department. no details though. adult read
Kate Bennett has an unassuming writing style that charmed me into a comfortable familiarity from the first, but as she weaved her story I realized that this little book would pack quite a punch. She’s fearless in her storytelling; she handled a supremely difficult plot with confidence, carried two would-be perfect characters into the realm of imperfection and rounded the entire book out with an ending as boldly original as the plot twists itself.
I love the premise of INEVITABLE and my interest was instantly piqued from the prologue. INEVITABLE is light contemporary romance mixed with fantasy / science fiction elements. The romance does have to do with what seems like reincarnation – which is what the main character Carina alludes to – but I’ll let you figure it out for yourself if you decide to read the book.
While it did turn out to be enjoyable, I had a hard time getting into the book when I originally started. Bennett’s dialogue seemed a little forced to me. The initial scene where Jared and Carina walk home from the bookstore made me cringe a bit. I just didn’t feel the chemistry between the two main characters at first so the scene made me feel uncomfortable. However, as the story progressed, I finally felt the two start to click.
At the end of Section 1, I already knew where the story was going to go. I had no problem with this whatsoever, because I was really curious as to how Bennett would pull it off. To be honest, Section 2 really dragged on because it felt so much like the first section. It was repetitive of Carina’s experience and I was impatient to see how the story would move forward.
However, after the initial interaction was established in Section 2, I found myself immersed into the novel again. I was really curious to see how the events would play out differently as the inevitable date approached.
Bennett does little to explain the fantasy elements behind the story. It really isn’t necessary to the plot, and I wasn’t bothered by it. But I thought I would just give a warning to readers who find that important.
I absolutely loved the ending of INEVITABLE. I never would have saw it coming and it really left me with a lingering question in my mind: “Did it work?” I’m not leaning towards a particular side, but it can certainly be put up for debate!
INEVITABLE started out rocky but there were a lot of elements in the novel that made everything click together towards the end.
This is a story that has some deep passion. Carina and Jared have been together a while, quite a few times, deeply in love....and only one of them knows about it! The unbreakable bond that forms is tested time and again, tragedy after tragedy.
Carina Lombardi has a quick wit about her and delivers some great one liners throughout the book. She is very independent and strives to maintain that - even if maybe it's the wrong decision for her personally....but hey.....she doesn't know what her future holds.......but Jared does!
Jared is very much in love with Carina....at times it felt a little stalkerish....but given what he knows and what he has been through with Carina it's kind of understandable. As a character though he does lack manliness at times!!! He is so focused on Carina - there just aren't any mates mentioned...which gives credit to the stalker feeling!! LOL! But as the book develops and we find out more about Jared.....we learn why and all feels good in the world.
Kate Bennett has a little gem here! Though I did find portions of the book unclear and sometimes time lapses felt a bit off, the shell of Inevitable is great. There's something there that takes hold and you stay till the end.....and oh what an ending!! The last two chapters are so well written and had me wanting more. But alas....it is a stand alone book....I can only imagine in my head what transpires after the last page is turned! Be warned......have the tissues on hand whilst reading this. I am not a highly emotional reader....but Jared's chapter at the end had me crying buckets.....Thanks Kate!! My kids thought I was having a breakdown!!! You may be wondering about my odd rating for this one??? Well, I did think it a great story and I can't really fault Kate as any issues I did come across fell more towards an editors responsibility. Not quite a 4 but definately not just a 3.5 either!!
I don't think that I can say enough good things about this book! I could not put it down. I got so sucked into it that I paid no attention to anything going on around me and by the time I finished it it was WAY past my bedtime!
Carina is a senior at NYU working towards her degree in journalism. For the past couple of years she has been swooning over a guy from afar. A guy that is so attractive to her that she is sure she has no chance with him. When he comes into the coffee shop that she works at, and the moment presents itself, she takes a chance at getting to know him. They end up hitting it off right away and, within a few months, he takes her to meet his family. On the way home from the family get together everything gets thrown for a loop!
This story was so full of suspense and romance. So suspenseful, I might add, that I had a hard time not flipping pages ahead just to find out what happened because I could barely wait. I can't say too much about the story without giving away anything, but I will say that where the story went was not at all what I expected. That is a good thing too because if far exceeded my expectations. The twists and turns of the plot were incredible and unexpected. The ending literally took my breath away.
More than anything, to me anyway, this book to me was about love. The things you do, risks you take, the lengths you are willing to go just to be with, and protect, the person that you love. Some people might think that the love Jared had for Carina was kind of crazy and I think it was too, but in a good way.
I can't speak highly enough about this book and I definitely recommend it for anyone looking for suspenseful, romantic YA read! It was truly fantastic!
Breath taking, devastating, incredible. I cannot begin to describe how much this book has moved me. A love such as Jared and Carina's really does only happen once in a lifetime and it can not be replaced.
