As you can see, a Dubliner all my life. My parents owned a grocery shop in the Iveagh Markets, in the Liberties area of the city and I guess city blood runs through my veins.

As a child I enjoyed reading and telling stories and everyone thought that I end up in a job which had something to do with books and literature. But though I applied for a job in the library all of the job offers I got were in commerce.

I turned down lots of them before my mother accepted one for me (I was on holiday at the time). It was in the Central Bank of Ireland and that’s how my career in financial services began.

I started out in administration and then moved jobs until finally I was working as a dealer in a commercial bank. Eventually I was promoted to Chief Dealer (the first female CD in the country). I traded lots of different things – foreign exchange, swaps, options, bonds…all of the kind of things you read about in the papers and that sound very technical and difficult. Of course once you’re doing it, it’s not half as technical as it sounds.

But I still loved reading and writing (which I did in my spare time) and I desperately wanted to write my own book. I guess I never quite got over the fact that I was never offered the library job! In my thirties I decided that it was now or never and I sat down, stuck Chapter 1 on a page, and started. I wrote the whole thing before sending it off.

I was offered a publishing deal (with no advance) by an Irish company but only if I wrote a different book! So back to the drawing board, I started again. It was another two years before it was published. It wasn’t until I’d written a few books and was offered a contract (this time with an advance!) from another publisher that I felt able to give up my trading job and write full time. So, even though it took a long time, I eventually realised my dream of being a full-time writer.

And now I also write a business column for the Irish Times.

When I’m writing a book I want to do three things:

* Tell a good story
* Make the reader feel like they know the characters
* Make each book better than the last

I don’t write for any particular audience but I suppose I must have people like me in mind – people who have busy lives and who like to escape into someone else’s for a while.

I love writing books. I hope you enjoy reading them.

I was really disappointed with this book, I normally adore this author but for some reason i found the whole thing a huge struggle. I loved Lainey but wanted to slap her for her notions on men and marriage, I hated Deanna for being an over the top feminist and shoving her views down everyones throat. Madeleine ( Deanna's mum ) was the only character I truely warmed to and the long concealed family secret didn't do it for me at all. The snippets regarding meterology intrigued me but on the whole a huge let down for me.

My Review

Meet Lainey, beautiful, successful, on tv doing the weather, educated in meteorology she is a really smart lady. Her mother is a feminist, famous and carving out her mark in the world and travelling all over to spread the good word, her and Lainey do not have the easiest of relationships. When it comes to Lainey's love life she has had two broken engagements and frets over her relationship with Ken and where is it going? All Lainey wants is to settle down with the man she loves, surely that isn't too much to ask?

Ok so lets start with what I did like, I love learning stuff in books, wee random snippets of info is always welcomed. Every chapter gives you a word relating to something to do with meteorology and what it means, first time I have had that in a book and I loved it. It isn't a subject I have given much thought to but to be honest, after reading the snippets I think I would pick up a book relating to it to learn a bit more. I liked her parents who although they didn't play a massive centre stage part but when they are in it they are lovely characters who helped shape Lainey.

What I couldn't get on with was Lainey's complete inability to see how fabulous she is on her own right. Every thought focuses on pleasing her other half or if something if blatantly the guys fault she blames herself. I think my problem is I have had personal dealings watching folk go through this type of behaviour and find it really upsetting and frustrating. You just want to reach into the book and wake her up! Reading it was very frustrating although it is testament to to the authors writing ability that she has captured it so well to evoke that response.

Her mother, Deanna, is frustrating for a very different reason, she goes the opposite way and is completely focused on the fight for feminism. Nothing gets in her way, I do mean nothing, and she has no qualms ramming it down folks throats. The two characters are worlds apart and I got annoyed in equal measures for very different attitudes and behaviours by the two. I did like when we flash back to Deanna's past and learn a bit more about her and why she became the way she did.

The writing itself is very easy to get on with, it was the characters traits and actions that I found really wearing. I am sure many people will get on well with this book however it just wasn't for me. This was my first time reading this author and whilst I didn't enjoy this book I would read her again as I think the presented issues was more my problem, 2.5 out of 5 for me.

From the cover I assumed this would be a fluffy read with romance. It was written in a light style but the topics covered were more serious than I expected and there was not really any romance - it did have a happy ending though, just not the trope ending I expected.

This was a reasonable read. It was a bit drawn out and I found myself skipping pages here and there.
I had no time for Deanna, Lainey's mum who literally left Lainey with her grandparents as a baby without any discusssion with the grandparents. Not to mention that she fled Ireland and headed to America when she just snuck out one day. Gosh! Is that selfish, irresponsible and pathetic or what? Deanna thought her daughter would be better off with them and didn't feel she could juggle her passion to make a difference for women in the future and parent. Oh please.... what about the girl you brought into the world? Don't get me started.
However, I did like the story about the 3 generations of women and their relationships with each other and how the story moved back and forwards in time as you got to know more about Deanna and her reasons for doing what she did. The book also centres around Lainey and her relationships with men(one in particular) and what she is seeking in a man.

Overall this was an easy book to read. The story was interesting in that it looked at mother, daughter and grandma relationships. The look at the relationship over three generations was an interesting approach.

Overal this book is not for those who want a beautiful romance. If you desire for a beautiful romance novel, you can actually stop reading this book and stop spreading hatred about this book in goodreveiw.

So, what should i say about this book?

This book is more to Mother-daughter relationship. Yes, there are romance in this novel but you can see that some romance is meant to be broken, and what is love for you is your relationship with your mother. Sheila has written a very beautiful book. If you're looking for a very sexy heroin and erotic book, this is not the book, you may feel disappointed.

But I, never, am disappointed with this book. This book is full of loves. But for a man, but more to family relationship. And yes, im falling for the handsome guy-next-door. Ahaha.

That's all from me,

This is the 2nd book that I am reading in a row by the same author. And this is the final book that I have in my library written by her. I enjoyed reading this book so much that I deliberately took my own sweet time to read word by word. A beautiful story written with colorful characters. A story of 3 generation of women, of love and of friendship. A story of weather and while reading this book, it has been raining almost daily here, so setting the right atmosphere reading this book - just perfect! Set in the beautiful city of Dublin. A must read for those of you who fancy books by Cathy Kelly. Soothing and easy to read.

I got this book in a blind date with a romance book purchase. It’s definitely not my usual type of book and I wouldn’t go out of my way to buy it.

The book was quite good. It was something different to read from my usual books. Some parts were quite grabbing and others were quite strung out and long.

For a book that is romance, I was quite surprised that most of it was not about romance and the fmc didn’t end up with anyone at the end!

A rather unnecessarily long book and plot. I had a hard time connecting with the characters, especially Deana, whose character change at the end seemed too sudden and unbelievable. Also, this book is categorised in the romance section of my library, but there's not much romance here. The writing style is good, so I finished reading it anyway.

Not her best, but still readable

The story was very repetitive. Everything was over-analyzed. The authors characters are always compelling, especially the women. The location is enjoyable. The dialogue among friends was the best.

I felt this booked lacked substance and was rather wishy washy - was looking forward to a great holiday read and I did finish it but it just wasn’t the page turner I had hoped it would be

Meteorologist Lainey Ryan might be skilled at predicting weather forecasts, but when it comes to making predictions about her own love life, she hasn't got a clue.

After two failed engagements, she thinks she's finally found true love with her steady boyfriend Ken and assumes that attending her best friend's wedding will help Ken realise that he's ready to move on to the next level. Unfortunately for Lainey, Ken is ready to move—but in the other direction. He thinks Lainey's getting too serious and that it's time for a break.

Lainey also learns that her estranged mother Deanna is returning to Ireland. After abandoning Lainey as a baby and leaving her with her grandparents, Deanna made a career for herself as an active feminist. Lainey and Deanna have never really connected but perhaps it's time that Lainey heard Deanna's side of the story and learned why she chose to do what she did . . .

Readers will be intrigued by the family history and secrets that have shaped and molded three generations of Ryan women. They will also be reminded that there is always more than one side to a story. Sheila O'Flanagan does a good job of fleshing out her characters and making them believable, if not always likeable.

I have read every one of Sheila O’Flanagan’s books and have enjoyed every single one of them. This seemed like a different type of book, and with a subject matter that many can empathise with. Deanna Ryan is a character that takes a while to connect with. After the initial first few chapters are read, you begin to get an idea of the bigger picture in the lives of the Ryan women. Lainey on the other hand is a wonderful character that you instantly love. She is the very successful weather
presenter, as well as being a hopeless romantic. How the two women are mother and daughter is a mystery in the beginning of the book.

However, as you read on, you learn a little about Lainey’s current life, the decisions she makes and the hopes that she has for herself. Alongside this element of the story, we see the build up and history of Deanna’s life and the story that led to Lainey being brought up by her Grandmother Madeleine. The mixture of past and present was cleverly done and everything builds up to create the full picture.

The romantic element of the story is actually not that important in the grand scheme of things as the main focus is on the family element. Deanna was a hard character to get to know, she seemed intent on being only good at one thing and that was women’s rights. As I read on I found myself disliking her even more, but thankfully as I neared the middle I started to see the reasoning behind her actions.

The book is featured in two main settings, one being Ireland where Lainey lives and works and the other being California, which is where Deanna lives. I loved the switch between the two places as it kept it interesting. I began to feel more involved in the story as you realise there is a lot more than meets the eye to the story of Lainey and Deanna’s life. I also loved the element of Lainey’s love life and absolutely loathed her boyfriend Ken, who thankfully doesn’t feature too much!

The ending was building up to the conclusion of the story and I enjoyed finally realising that all the pieces of the puzzle fitted however…there is a ‘but’! I finished the final chapter and thought “oh, I must have missed something?”. I was really shocked that it had ended so abruptly and I felt a little bit cheated. I would have loved to have found out just that little bit more regarding a couple of characters such as Shay and Fergal. Looking back, maybe Sheila wanted it that way, where you are left to wonder and it isn’t wrapped up quite as neatly as people expect.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed this and thought that it was a subtle departure form the normal type of books from SOF. It took me a little while to get into the story, but once I had got there I loved it!

Lainey is a popular forecaster on the national TV, but unfortunately she can’t say the same about her love life. She has been dumped a couple of times and engaged twice. Now she has a new boyfriend, Ken, but is he Mr. Right?

To make it worse, her estranged mother, Deanna, has returned to Dublin. She’s a high-profile feminist and she doesn’t approve of Lainey’s choices. Especially when it comes to men. After all her failures, this isn’t exactly what she needs now.
As Lainey thought she was up-to-date with family history, she’s totally wrong. During the stay of her mother she discovers some interesting secrets about her parents.

That’s not the only thing Lainey gets to know. What does she really want in life? And what does she expect from het boyfriend?

It has been a long time since I have relaxed so much while reading a novel! All for you was a very enjoyable read and I couldn’t put it down. This was my second novel by Sheila O’ Flanagan, but I think this one was even better.

The story began a bit too slowly with a lot of complaining about Lainey’s previous engagements and her other boyfriends. This didn’t really interest me, but when the action began, I was sold.
It was oblivious that Ken wasn’t the right man, although it seemed so in the first chapters. You didn’t get to know much about him, but that didn’t bother me. The way he acted said enough about him.

Deanna was a die-hard feminist and this made it nearly unbelievable. She was often rude and didn’t seem to care about her daughter. I think she could have been a bit kinder. She wasn’t an easy person to live with, because she was always snapping at Lainey.

The whole history behind Lainey was very interesting and the blurb didn’t suggest you would have the opportunity to look in the mind of Deanna, which mad it even nicer. You get to know a lot about Deanna and you start to have some respect for her as well.

What I also liked was the ending. It wasn’t perfect, which is often the case with chick-lit, but it was more open, but I liked that. It left me with a good feeling and that tells a lot about a book.

If you’re up for a romantic read with some information about the weather, I think you should read All for you!
