Rate this book
Rachel Valentine was thirteen when her brother walked out of their family home and never came back. Five years later whilst watching TV she sees her brothers face in the crowd. Locked away at a convent, where her parents think she can't get into any trouble, Rachel plots her escape, determined to find her brother. What else is a sister to do?

Alone in London, she discovers that the search for her brother is attracting the wrong kind of attention. Then she meets a man who says he can help her, but is he just someone else with plans of his own for her? Something strange is going on and if Rachel's not careful, they'll be adding her name to the steadily growing list of missing persons.

Ella Grey immediately pulls you into the world of Rachel Valentine and general mood of the story. Rachel is creative, tenacious, and a rebel at heart that just wants to find out what happened to her brother. Her motives are innocent enough even if she seems to be a 'trouble maker.'

There are definite hints of magic or supernatural affairs being involved in the disappearances that have been happening across London and I'm *very* intrigued to read more!

The only reasons I didn't *love* this short... were some of the transitions. At one point a transition leaves off with one sort of vehicle and then picks up with another. At first I thought that maybe it was a typo, but then realized after continuing to read that more time had passed than I'd initially thought. Also, while I know that it's intended to leave the reader wanting more (which I do!) the ending was a bit harsh for me. I wanted a little bit more "wrap-up" at the end to flush it out some.

Overall, though, I thought it was very fun. I really enjoy the premise and I'm very curious to find out what's going on in London and what Rachel's brother has gotten himself mixed up with, what her parent's are hiding, and much more. If you are expecting it to be a short that won't give you a solid ending, then it's a great read. I just wasn't anticipating that from the beginning so it seemed a bit lacking on my first read-through.

If you've liked the other "Electric Shorts" that Echelon Press is putting out, then I certainly recommend 'Searching For Michael.' Keep an eye on this series and watch out for Ella Grey!

Clever and compelling suspense filled short story with an enticing cliffhanger ending written by a true thrill mistress.

Rachel Valentine is 16. She has just been shuttled off to a St. Mary’s School for Wayward Souls. The nuns are not only very strict, her room spartan and her possessions secreted away in the Mother Superior’s office under lock and key, she gets only an hour of free time every day. She’s spending her free time watching the news when she sees a man behind the reporter in Trafalgar Square she recognizes as her brother who is supposedly dead.

No one will believe Michael is alive and in London so since you don’t end up in a boarding school for wayward souls by being a good girl Rachel hatches an escape plan. Now she’s spending her days circulating Michael’s photo looking for someone who’s seen him but she finds out there’s something very strange going on, the list of missing person’s is growing and she’s right in the middle of the danger.

Searching for Michael is Ella Grey’s second eshort story published by Echelon Press as part of a project tempt reluctant readers. The story is written in short installments and ends in a cliffhanger in the hope of enticing the reader to read the next installment.

Ella Grey lives with her husband, son and dog. Her first eshort published by Echelon Press was released last year. To find out more about Ella Grey, her stories and books visit her at http://ellagrey.wordpress.com/

After having read What a Way to Start the day, about the fire witch Molly, I was really excited to jump into Ella Grey's new short story series!
I wasn't disappointed. Searching for Michael is an extremely well written, fast paced tale. I loved the characters, the MC is well described, and wonderfully not perfect. A definite great read for young adults. It ended all too soon and I can't wait for the next installment to see what happens next!
