Arf! Bark! Bow wow! That's what dogs say, but just what are they trying to tell us? Find Why they chase their tails. Reasons to play fetch at 6 a.m. What's so great about fire hydrants? Which collars they don't want to wear and why. From a posh, perfumed lapdog to the ever-hungry chow hound, dogs tell you why cats drool and dogs rule!
I wasn't fond of this book the first time through -- mostly because I find the art a bit off-putting -- but I've been listening to the songs on the music CD regularly on my iPod Shuffle for nearly two decades and am always happy when one comes up in the mix.
"Red Rubber Ball" and "No Dogs Allowed" are my favorites. "Lapdog" is the only clunker on the album, mostly because I dislike the concept of little dogs being treated like weird living Barbie dolls.
My daughter on the other hand liked it right from the start, back when she was five.

I enjoyed it as a short story like read to my two year old. It just was a good quick read and she seemed engaged especially with all the photos and relatable because we have dogs. It was great to finally get her to identify happy and sad faces with the dogs. And she was excited to search and find our dogs throughout the many pooches pictured.
Fun and humorous, dog-themed, rhyming poems, with bright and bold illustrations. My kids liked it, with the younger ones being more impressed than the older. I thought they were unspectacular.
