Diaries of Dissension

Rate this book
Have you ever questioned the premise of your religious faith? Tommy Rodriguez certainly has. In fact, he is no stranger to questioning conventional wisdom. Having spent most of his adult life contemplating over such things, Rodriguez learned a thing or two about his religion that eventually sent him spiraling down a path of dissension and doubt. His first book entitled, “Diaries of Dissension,” proposes the question … is religion a legitimate source truth? Rodriguez embarks on a self-illuminating quest to answer this question, plus many more.

ears of scientific research have led Rodriguez to value the importance of skeptical inquiry. Written for the non-specialist, this book seeks to propagate a public understanding for science education. In doing so, Rodriguez pursues the ambitious task of taking on the tenets of religion in order to resolve humanity’s most profound questions, while invoking a few surprising twists that Rodriguez foresees as an inescapable predicament to religious faith..

If I was to write a book that expressed my feelings about science, atheism and the bible, then Diaries of Dissension would be the kind of informative , creative and fascinating book that I would hope to create. I specifically related to the first chapter of how Tommy`s religious environment, as a child, produced questions about the rationality of religion. It brought back my own experiences of sitting in the synagogue, as a child and thinking this makes no sense based on what I was learning in school. I love how Tommy analyses excerpts from the Bible and challenges their irrationality with scientific analysis. Much of the scientific themes that led to my own scientific literacy is outlined in this amazing book. It is a great foundation for more learning and step in the right direction for scientific literacy. This is the kind of quest for knowledge that led to my own atheistic epiphany. From the examination of why evolution is a beautiful result of years hypothetico-deductionism , to why the most physicists think that the universe is a self perpetuating concept without the necessity of God, is just part of the amazing journey that Tommy Rodriguez takes you in this scientific and entertaining trip to illustrate why naturalism provides us with the real answers to our moral and scientific questions. Tommy writes eloquently and at a level that you will understand the scientific, philosophical and moral concepts which is something unique in today`s non fictional field. I am now waiting for Part Two.

Just finished reading this wonderful book and I gotta say it was worth every second. Big fan of the author, very knowledgeable. The book presents many 'cases' against the religious establishment, mostly from the argument in behalf of science and history. I especially enjoyed the chapters on evolution and cosmology. People that do not understand evolution need to read this book. The overall message of the book was very powerful. Loved the last two chapters. Makes you better for reading it. All in all, worth every second!

I've read numerous books about this topic. Because of the controversial nature of the topic I was very interested in the perspective of the author. This book was extremely helpful. Chapter 2 & 3 are my personal favorites because they have to do with the origin of the universe and the origin life. Some chapters are easier to read than others. Chapter 4 deals with biblical blunders, chapter 5 with the origins of morality, and chapter 6 with the topic of creationism. I particularly enjoyed the chapter 7. In general the arguments in this book are difficult to dispute. Job well done by the author.
