Hunted by the Omega

Rate this book
An omega raised to hunt and hate his own kind. An alpha who lost his pack to hunters.

There were always going to be fireworks when wolf shifters Fitz and Jake met. Neither were expecting that sort.

Though when Fitz lures Jake into a trap, that’s exactly what happens.

Jake defeats the humans, but as he is fighting Fitz, he accidentally throws him into heat. The omega has no idea what is happening to his body and Jake doesn’t want to deal with it, so he scopes the boy up and attempts to drive back to his pack to give the problem to his Alpha.

But the journey is long and the heat is strong.

The problems don’t end there though. Once back at the packhouse, Fitz continues to be a murderous little chaos goblin.

One that Jake just can’t seem to stay away from.

Hunted by the Omega contains enemies to lovers, hurt/comfort, misuse of a cucumber and an omega who goes a little feral during his heat.

A Joyfully Jay review.

3.75 stars

Hunted by the Omega is an entertaining shifter/omegaverse story. It takes place in the same world as some of S. Rodman’s other shifter books, including the Darkstar Pack series and All Rail the King. We get a couple of side character crossovers, including an appearance by Silas Northstar and the Council, but it is not necessary to have read the other books to enjoy this one (I came into this one cold and had no problems). The set up for this story drew me in right away, as I loved the role reversal of this tiny but powerful omega who is dangerous to the big strong alpha, not to mention the idea of a shifter fighting against his own kind. The story plays this all out well and there is a nice enemies-to-lovers tension that slowly builds into a connection between the men. I also liked the larger shifter world and think the pack elements are built nicely, as well as the alpha/omega dynamics that lead into the relationship development for Fitz and Jake.

Aside from the raw depiction of animal lust, Hunted by the Omega serves as an elementary intro to the shifter universe.

This was one hot read.

And despite some early editing lapses (e.g. calling 'Henry' Harry a few pages later), the plot steams ahead like a locomotive. Two shifters, an alpha and an omega, orphaned by hunters since childhood, find each other. Their only problem is they find themselves on opposing teams, hunter and hunted.

Lust and Love (and a little Magic) come to the rescue. But the real magic is how this writer tenderizes the hate-fuck!

First, Jake is a bit of an obliviously, maybe even a bit dumb Alpha. No that’s not all fair, he's more than that, he’s loyal, protective, forgiving, with his heart at the right side, but yes, he’s oblivious and screws up things.

It is on a full moon, Jake follows Fitz, a tiny, alluring-smelling omega to the back alley of the bar. He hoped to get laid, but it’s a trap and gets stabbed, the omega is with hunters. Jake is devastated, his whole pack was killed by hunters.

After a fight, Jake accidentally throws the omega into heat. The guy doesn’t understand what’s happening. Jake doesn’t want to get involved with this heat and will bring him to his pack alpha, he’ll have to deal with the omega, certainly not Jake, oh no!
It’s not next door, it’s quite the ride.
You have to understand, for an alpha, it is impossible and unbearable to let an omega deal with their heat alone.

This is just the beginning. What follows was flabbergasting.

You think the omega would be grateful for the help from the pack and learn to behave. Dream on!
It’s all VERY entertaining, with surprising turns I didn’t see coming.
Omega Fitz has a story! Not gonna spoil read it yourself.

At some point, there’s quite a turn in the story. It’s also the moment where we meet The Alpha and Alpha mate of the Darkstar Pack series again, awesome! It’s not an easy journey for Jake and Fitz but in the end? they got where they belonged.

A super duper entertaining story, with a lot of exciting moments, scorching, endearing, heartbreaking, anxious, nerve-racking, and yes sweet ones.

Overall Opinion
Once I started this book, I found it physically impossible to put down, I was hooked from the get-go! What a beginning to a story, almost immediately we have one MC trying to kill the other, and it only got better as it went along. Fitz, our feisty tortured Omega has a vendetta against Jake, the stubborn Alpha who simply cannot resist the lure of Fitz. They are the definition of enemies to lovers, and the lack of trust, and years of hurt and torture in Fitz's past, make it hard for them to acknowledge their feelings for one another, leading to major miscommunication and unnecessary situations between the two. The steam is off the charts amazing and the almost instantaneous connection is deep and hard to resist. The whole time my heart was hurting for poor Fitz, being raised the way he was, he was also sweet and innocent, and I just wanted him to find his purpose. The writing style was very well paced and the characters were developed on perfectly. Overall this was another amazing read from S. Rodman and I cannot wait to read more!

I couldn't put Hunted By The Omega down. Once I started, I just kept going until it was done.
It's a standalone but has characters from other books since this is an interconnected universe. Loved those cameos.
Jake and Fitz are both really flawed characters. Jake does some stuff that skirts the line, but never with bad intentions. It was impossible not to like him.
Fitz was complicated. His background was dark, but he also does questionable things. I had a great deal of sympathy for him.
Pretty steamy with some action. Loved it

Jake (MMC 1) did a lot of flip flopping, when it came to whether he believed Fitz (MMC 2) was a redeemable or irredeemable victim or a monster/ruthless killer—and they weren’t really logic based changes of opinions either. But that was my biggest gripe with the book outside of the lack of communication between the two when it came to their thoughts and feelings (which led to every misunderstanding imaginable).

Overall, it was a quick, smutty, light angst, kind of fluffy read.

I read this in one sitting!
Spoilers ahead!

Jake meets Fitz in a bar, 5 minutes later the omega has put a dagger through his chest.
Luckily Jake manages to heal himself as he is not only an Alpha Shifter but he is a magic wielder, after killing everyone else in the hunting party he vows to get answers from Fitz as to why he is hunting his own kind. Of course this is when he goes into heat.
It’s a long drive back to Jakes pack house and Fitz’ heat pheromones are hard to resist.
We then follow the story of Jake trying to get the omega to 1. Stop trying to murder him
2. Respect his pack and submit to his pack Alpha
and
3. Give them some information about the hunting clan he was with.
Oh and Jake really should stop having sex with him!
Chaos, miscommunication and sex ensues.
TW for dubious consent and explanations of past mistreatment.
This book was good, not just your average omegaverse story. It’s an interesting plot - danger, violence, sex and a HEA.
Would definitely recommend if you like Omegaverse, and if you don’t maybe you should try it 😉

I was really intrigued by the blurb and plot in this story, and while there were a lot of things I liked, it ended up feeling a little bit flat and rushed.

I liked Fitz, the little chaos goblin, it was heartbreaking how little he knew about himself and how confusing everything was to him, since he didn't know about heats or anything like that. His energy was just pure chaos and I liked that he kind of stayed feral for a while and didn't give in when Jake took him in. I also liked the push and pull between the characters and the steam level was high and hot. There were some lighter and funny moments throughout the book, mostly in relation to how little Fitz knew of the world around him, it made for some funny situations.

Overall the story was easy to follow and a relatively quick read, but I just craved a bit more depth and layers. Towards the end it felt very rushed and I couldn't help but want a bit more, especially since I felt like there was a lot of potential to Fitz and Jake's story. I felt like they deserved a slower and deeper development between them and I think it would have made a better, more solid connection for their relationship as well.

It's an author I'd like to try and read more from, and if you're into tropes like omegaverse, forced proximity and enemies to lovers, you might enjoy Hunted by the Omega!

This is probably the fist book that I have read from this author that I haven’t really liked. I got frustrated by Jake’s CONSTANT navel-gazing “I’m a terrible person for taking advantage of poor Fitz” then “Fitz is a terrible murderer who doesn’t deserve my empathy!” then “oooh poor Fitz! I must keep him at arm’s length for his own good! instead of just TALKING to Fitz and finding out why he keeps trying to kill him. I guess then the book would have been over a lot sooner I guess? I really with the chapters with Fitz’s perspective had started earlier in the book. Overall, it was OK, but not the author’s best.

When I read the description of this book I was really looking forward to it. An Omega being a hunter? That was really intriguing to me. However, I think the execution of this story fell a bit flat for me. Right after Fitz tries to kill him the first time they end up hooking up in his car. Then once they get to Jake's packlands Fitz at first is docile; then lashes out, they hook up, and then the cycle continues. There was no depth or relationship building, and I felt as though the side characters and the background details was lacking. It just felt like it was more about the smexy times rather than the plot.

pretty good

While I loved the book I could not stand Fitz at all. He kept constantly trying to kill jake but at the same time tries to be with him. Jake is very forgiving. I didn’t understand Callum’s character cause he’s suppose to be more on jakes side. Overall the ending was a let down I was expecting more since we got to see familiar chapters from past book like the necromancer.

Hunted by the Omega takes place in the same universe as The Darkstar Pack. Somehow I didn't realize this and was delightfully surprised when Silas himself popped up as part of the plot. I mean really, I should have expected it. How often would Silas get the chance to meet another omega as bloodthirsty as him? I'd have pegged it as impossible, and yet I would have been wrong.

Fitz was raised by hunters from a pup. I don't know if raised is even the right word. They treated him horrifically. I mean he'd never even used silverware before Jake brought him to his pack. His entire life was spent being abused and brainwashed that his own kind were monsters. It takes times to reverse that type of indoctrination, hence the multiple attempts at murdering the one man who has been trying to help him. Jake

Despite all the attempts on his life, Jake is drawn to Fitz. He is constantly warring with himself and his wolf. He wants to protect Fitz and keep him close, but he also worries he is taking advantage of a vulnerable victim. That Fitz only wants him because he was the first person to show him kindness. There are definite miscommunication issues here, and a lot of it is due to the fact that Fitz has no idea about shifter life. Honestly he broke my heart when he kept thinking he was going to get beaten for everything. He was braver than he gave himself credit for. Thankfully Jake pulls his head out of his ass and realizes he needs to be clear of his intentions with Fitz if he wants him not to misunderstand things anymore and we finally get to see these two wolves get their HEA.

I really loved the concept behind this one, but it just kind of fell a little flat for me. There were a lot of things I loved, but there were also quite a few things I wish we had gotten more of!

Jake and Fitz meet when Fitz lures Jake to some hunters. Jake is a wolf shifter, and Fitz is an unclaimed, omega wolf shifter! Fitz ends up being taken by Jake, and this throws Fitz into his first heat, and boy was it a rough one! Jake battles against his nature and instinct, to do the right thing, but he doesn’t win out! Jake takes Fitz to his pack in the hopes of figuring out WHY this omega is working with hunters.

Fitz’s story is honestly kind of heartbreaking; he was treated awfully by the hunters he was working alongside. This was one of the areas that I felt I wanted more of—Fitz’s healing. He is a chaos goblin, as Jake calls him, but to go from hating who you are, to being okay with all things shifter, I wish we had seen a bit more inside Fitz and his journey to accepting his identity as a “monster”. I also wish we had seen more of the pack teaching Fitz about what an omega is—it seemed like they talked about him being a good omega and such, but we never saw them explaining things or teaching him.

All in all this was a quick read but the writing style was a bit stilted in some spots. It read very stiff, and extremely rushed! I kind of wish this one had been slowed down and some of the details we got were explored more fully!! I didn’t love this one, but I didn’t hate it—I’m definitely on the fence about it, but it was a good palate cleanser-type book!

I liked this standalone; it is refreshing to read shifter stories with strong, deadly omegas. Fitz’s story is horrific, it made me wave between the “right side” and the “wrong side” on either feel compassion for Fitz or forgive him for his crimes because he was a little kid when hunters came. I was still a little upset by Jake’s reaction to Fitz recurrent attempts to kill him, in my opinion he forgave him too easily. I liked the way the morally gray personalities of the characters (mostly Fitz) were exploited.

I appreciated the conflicts and contradictions between the desires and the responsibilities of the characters. I am happy Fitz developed his real identity as a shifter with Jake’s help. It was touching to see him grow. Jake is very protective of Fitz. He is an interesting character, quite mysterious as a magic user and a shifter. I appreciated the second-half of the book, I liked to discover a little more of Jake’s abilities. Silas’ apparition was a nice cameo.

But I would have like more dialogues between the characters. I think I would have understood them more. I am a little disappointed that the sex scenes were very present, because it was hard to note the romantic attraction between Fitz and Jake. I didn’t manage to attach myself to the characters as much as I would have liked. I liked this “Hunted by the Omega”; it really made me want to know more about S. Rodman’s world. Now, I can’t wait to read the "Darkstar Pack" series!

Jake is an alpha wolf shifter, and Fitz is a beautiful omega wolf shifter that preys upon alphas like Jake to lure them to their deaths. Thankfully, Jake is also a mage, and he escapes the human hunters that have raised Fitz to hate his own kind. After the stress of fighting Jake causes Fitz into his first heat, Jake “kidnaps” Fitz to take to his pack home and hand the problematic omega to his pack Alpha. Even after helping Fitz out with his heat and the obvious strong attraction on both of their parts, Fitz keeps trying to murder Jake. But Jake just cannot keep away from the broken and beautiful omega.

I loved this book. It was very well-written and very intriguing. It kept my attention from the beginning to the end, and it was very hard to put it down. The MC’s had amazing chemistry. It was funny how Fitz was single-minded in his attempt to eliminate his target, even after being rescued from the abusive human hunters, and Jake was still passionately attracted to him regardless that he was the target. I loved their HEA. I loved this book so much that I ended up reading the entire Evil Omega series and related prequels. This was a great book and I cannot recommend it and this author enough.

I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Poor Fitz finally found his HEA with Jake

I like Rodman's books because Omegas are really not portrayed as weak or fragile. They are tough and just as capable of defending themselves as alphas. Fitz was such a complicated character. On the one hand I loved how capable he was, he didn't need anyone to fight his corner as he was already there doing it. However, a lot of the time him fighting his corner was him trying to kill Jake which I had serious problems with. Granted Fitz had his reasons and the horrible experiences he's gone through are a very, very large part of that. So there were some definite mixed feelings there haha. My one real criticism I think stems from that, in that I really felt like Jake forgave way too quickly. I get why Fitz is the way he is and yes there are *reasons* and big ones, but that doesn't change what he was doing was wrong and it's not like he stopped straight away so a bit more grovelling would have been warranted I think. However, beyond that little complaint I loved the book. It's got all the hallmarks of a Rodman story and for that I enjoyed it immensely.

This is a GRR ARC review

My first book by this author! Had no idea what to expect. Loved the premise.

First of all, the smut is hot! Just the right amount of desperate and a little wrong. I appreciate Jake hesitating at first before going all: ah, shucks, the omega needs me!

The lack of Fitz's knowledge about himself and shifters in general was as heartbreaking as it was hilarious. I felt for him, but his confusion was sweet and funny at times. He was so innocent. Well, as innocent as an alpha hunter can be, lol.

The whole story felt quite rushed, tho. On one hand, it flowed quickly and was easy to follow, but it lacked any depth. Fitz's story could have been delicious heart-pulling, but it lacked any depth and I didn't really buy the connection between him and Jake. I didn't see any real character or relationship development. Jake did get protective the more he knew Fitz and obviously Fitz got hooked on Jake bc Jake had thrown him, but yeah... It was missing something and I just couldn't get into the story properly

Jake is an Alpha shifter. He stops into a bar just wanting some companionship for the night. He didn’t expect to be led into a trap by the startlingly beautiful omega he followed into an alley. Fitz is just a lure. Used and abused by hunters to be the bait in their trap. Too bad the hunters didn’t anticipate Jake’s strength and magic.

Interesting take on shifter lore. Don’t think I’ve read a shifter book where an Alpha could wield magic. Jake was your basically clueless man/shifter. Alpha to the core. I took a bit of the story for him to begin to realize maybe he wasn’t all that smart when it came to relationships. I actually really liked him. Fitz on the other hand wasn’t nearly as likable to start out with. I felt the world building was sparse in the beginning. It wasn’t until new faces came into the story that there seemed to be more explanation.

Whole lot of angst going on here. Some simple misunderstandings, a definite lack of communication, and ignorance on both of the main characters parts.

Nice story.

Enemies to lovers, shifters, magic, mates

Poor Fitz and Jake were thrown together by their horrific pasts in a collision of terrifying fear, passion, confusion and hate.
Fitz has no idea who or what he is, he's been an instrument of pain and hate, used by his captors and Jake can't initially see past him being just like those who caused him irreparable harm in the past.
As they get to know one another it seems as though they might find a way out.
Unfortunately Jake is kind of an idiot who reflexively reacts first and then regrets his actions because he really is a good guy.
When his actions cause Fitz to placed back in harm's way it almost has fatal consequences.
Fortunately for the readers, the author wraps everything up in a very much well deserved HEA.
I also really enjoyed the crossover with the Evil Omega series because I love Silas and I'm here for all the smart and deadly omegas.

Child of the Moon Goddess🌙🐺

‘The memory of him baring his throat to me, just yesterday, in front of the whole pack, burns through me. His scent, his little moan. It is as if the shifter I’m chasing killed that version of Fitz. A howl escapes me as I run. A song of grief and rage.’

When alpha Jake is unexpectedly attacked by shifter hunters using a wolf shifter omega, he becomes entangled in a war. But the war is not just between his found family and those hunters.

Fitz has been treated as a personal pet by the hunters who killed his family, stole him, and raised him as bait to attract wolf shifters.

Hunted by the Omega, an S. Rodman emotional battle, is that tale that needs to be shared. As we watch Jake and his misunderstood actions, and Fitz and his naive understanding of what a wolf family is all about, we become entwined in the mate call between a grumpy alpha, and a highly skilled and deadly omega, who keep clashing as they find themselves smashing and clashing, over and over.

Sweet, among the agonizing pain, these two fill our hearts with hope and hurt, but ultimately come to a happy ever after!

Great addition to this world

I feel like the characters are the best thing about this addition to this series. A lot of the previous books also have great characters but it’s the world building that stands out. The two main characters Fitz and Jake are absolutely perfect examples of the fated mates idea because they seem like such opposites and also because Fitz keeps trying to off Jake and run away. I love how S. Rodman has made Jake almost a caricature of what an alpha is supposed to be like. I say almost because he is clueless, h0rny, crazy protective and would rather do almost anything than talk about stuff but he is also sweet and hopelessly in love with Fitz no matter what Fitz does to him. This is billed as a standalone but it does have some cameos in it. I loved it.

Tropes: enemies to lovers, hurt/comfort, who hurt you, age gap, and of course alpha/omega.

I received an ARC of this book and read it in one sitting at a Denny's with a plate of crepes. No regrets. I haven't read omegaverse in a while, so it was nice to return to (what does that say about me?). Fitz is the perfect, feral little murder gremlin he is meant to be, and Jake is a great alpha for him. Just a little scared for his life. As he should be.

The book was a quick, fun read with emotional beats and characters you have to route for--as well as side characters you really want to get to know better. It is, of course, a super spicy read (and contains a bit of a dub-con in the way that omegaverse often does, so be mindful of the triggers listed in it). If you like omegaverse, shifters, or might be interested in trying the genre, this is a great start!

The story was fun and engaging, but I found the writing style (short, choppy sentences and often written as train-of-thought, particularly towards the end) difficult to read and distracting.

I would have also appreciated more dialogue between Fitz and Jake - their relationship developed on physical interaction (whether spice or things like smiles, hugs etc) - and it would have been nice to see their intellects interact, especially as Jake repeatedly referred to Fitz as 'clever' without us actually seeing that ourselves.

But Fitz was incredibly cute, whether in human or wolf form, and I did like his character development, including overcoming the abuse he'd suffered. His reactions to being offered a bed instead of being made to sleep on the floor, and given his own space and possessions...oh, my heart!

A fun standalone story.

This book is so good. It is a bit dark and some scenes may be viewed as dubcon so please be aware if that is a trigger. It fits in this world though and trust me, it really does all work out. Fitz and Jake are an excellent example of enemies to lovers. Fitz tries to kill Jake more than once but it honestly isn’t his fault and he gets a little of his own back eventually. I can’t explain it any more than that without giving spoilers. Jake just can’t help himself when it comes to Fitz. He can’t trust him but he can’t live without him either. It just takes them a bit to figure it all out. This is set in the same world as the Evil Omega series, which I love. Silas is such a bada$$. This is such a fascinating world and I love every twisted word of it!

I received this spicy queer romance as an ARC and could barely pit it down. Hunted by the Omega is set in an established Omegaverse but can be read as a stand-alone. Jack is an alpha with additional magical abilities who meets Fitz when the omega tries to kill him. The story is told mostly from Jack's POV, so we get some insight to his thoughts and feelings on the dubious consent situation common with Omegaverse. Eventhough I am personally not a fan of the miscommunication trope, the story kept me hooked all the way until the end. The characters are well fleshed out and feel like unique personalities. A great read I can only recommend!

Hunted by the Omega by S. Rodman is a really good read. I loved this story. An Omega trained by hunters to hunt their own kind and to hate them. Poor Fitz is so confused. Being an Omega he had no clue why he is so drawn to someone he is supposed to hate.

Jake, he is a laid-back Alpha usually. Having an Omega he is drawn to go into heat and he is the only one to save him, well that is too much to resist.

These two really are great together. I liked the world-building and really want more. I cannot wait to read more from this author, they have my attention and I want more.

Fitz is an Omega who tried to kill an Alpha, Jake. Jake brings him back to his pack and they have a love/hate relationship, untrusting but hot for each other. You can forgive Fitz for his unknowledgeable unawareness and stubborn attempts to escape his situation. Jake is too stubborn and blind as an Alpha to admit his feelings and to share his knowledge. When they learn to trust each other, all will work out. Even with all their faults, these two were meant to be together. Thoroughly enjoyed this book and Fitz's courage. I received a copy of this book and this is my voluntary opinion.
