En glimrende bok. Det er en sann fryd å nyte side opp og side ned med Fiske og Kvernelands kunst samt reiseskildring gjennom en glemt norsk kunstners rike.

There is so much I'd love to tell about Olaf G.

(1) This is a book about Olaf Gulbransson, the formidable Norwegian artist, his biography, his life n times n all...Well done!!

(2) This is a book about GUYS being EXCITED about art. You travel through Gulbransson's world with Lars and Steffen. Lars and Steffen love Olaf's art. This is the bit I loved the most! Feeling adult people going mad about drawings, ink and paper. THAT's friggin AWESOME!

(3) And this is a hugely inspiring book. Art is alive. And as Olaf probably inspired the artists...if you have a jota of judgement in your blood, you will admire Lars and Steffen's art the same way they worship Olaf. Both are masters - from Fiske's radically geometric but pulsating-with-life plots to Kverneland's mastering of shapes, movements and moments. You are going to love those guys!

Come on, THIS is a guide about how and why to love ART. It swallows you. It occupies you. Sharing the excitement about how something is done, the nuts and bolts...that secret dialogue with long gone people I always feel when playing compositions of composers long gone. Olaf, this huge, buddhaistic, lovely, strong and weak person, comes alive. Read this. You're going to love Gulbransson, if you're not a complete imbecile. But you're also going to admire friendship, sharing excitement about something you love, lines n dots of ink, Bavaria, alcohol... and still - this is not just blasting jokes and funny wisecracking. This is dead serious at times. The bit I loved the most (of all the bits I loved)....the finale. (yeah, it's non-linear) - just as Kverneland's magnum opus "Munch" ended with a serious and serene Munch being one with the religion of his art, "Olaf" ends with a poignant love story.

I loved it all. Olaf, Bavaria, beer, the feeling of youthful excitement in adult mend, Steffen, Lars, their art and craft, their humble admiration of Olaf, their friendship and their unbelievable work to share their experience and their excitement.

Nok en perle fra Kverneland og Fiske. Serieteket, here I come, alt disse gutta har kokt ihop (etter grundig marinering i alkohol, åpenbart) skal jeg gomle meg gjennom.
