David Robinson (born 1930) is a British film critic and author. He started writing for Sight and Sound and the Monthly Film Bulletin in the 1950s, becoming Assistant Editor of Sight and Sound and Editor of the Monthly Film Bulletin in 1957-1958. He was film critic of The Financial Times from 1958 to 1973, before taking up the same post at The Times in 1973. He remained the paper's main film reviewer until around 1990 and a regular contributor until around 1996.
A charming little book on BK. Full of ridiculous rumors ('One of the most persuasive evidences of his talent at the time is the rumor prevalent about 1902 and 1903 that he was not a child at all, but a clever midget'), vivid visions of vaudeville and hapless hollywood happenings.
"This book does not pretend to be more than description and idolatry", writes David Robinson. Both of these are fine by me. The descriptions are informative and the idolatry is fully justified. Now I just want to watch all his brilliant movies again!
