I've recently been preparing to play through the Metroid Series leading up to Metroid Dread. I started with the original NES game, but since then I've come to the understanding that this book is the actual starting point for the Metroid Storyline. And I must say, I wasn't disappointed! Learning more about Samus' character and the Chozo, the origin of the Metroids and the Space Pirates. It puts the whole game into a new perspective. Realizing Zebes isn't just the Pirate headquarters, it's where Samus' was raised. Mother Brain isn't just the Pirate Leader, it's the AI heart of the planet CREATED BY THE CHOZO??? I learned so much about the status quo of the first game from reading this, and I almost want to play it again once I finish book 2. Or perhaps play Metroid Zero Mission, which I've heard is a remake of the first game. Either way, I love this universe and story and can't wait till I'm caught up!

I've been going through Zero Mission, a first Metroid for me. This fills in background in a quite epic way.

Wow, this was so good. I am a recent fan of the Metroid series, in fact I just started playing Super Metroid. I love playing Samus in Smash but I always felt that something was missing from the character. Her backstory. A friend who is also a fan of the Metroid series suggested me to the manga. At first I was skeptical because I had never read any video game comics/manga. But once I started reading I fell in love. It’s absolutely amazing to see the character grow. Some scenes in particular showed just how awesome Samus is. Her action scenes mirrored the game(s) which was amazing. Overall a great book. Can’t wait to read the next one!

Review for both volumes:
It's pretty average. A cool origin story for Samus, that is generally well told, but incredibly rushed at the end. Having just played Zero mission and seeing that whole game whizzing by in one chapter was definitely confusing. It has some really great panels and the drawing are generally excellent.
The weak point here is definitely the lack luster design of armourless humans and the sometimes illegible panelling. It's a great addition to Metroid but an amateurish attempt at a manga.

The first part telling the origin story of Samus before the numerous Metroid games. The art is passable, though nothing to write home about. The plot is interesting and to finally see parts of the Federation teased in the games is definitely a treat. All in all, a good comic that would interest fans of the game willing to delve more into the lore, than an average reader stumbling upon it.

Having A.d.h.d. and a hyper fixation on Metroid, this manga came to my rescue. What can I say that hasn't been said about this masterpiece, Samus bloody F bombs jesus christ! Nintendo! Ridly can speak english? ok creative decision I guess? and... Oh I really shouldn't spoil it for other Metroid fans but... ok, I Loved the reference to metroid prime the bit when ----- and ----- the ------ Also, my favourite bit was when Ridly did a kung fu kick and said meow meow N----A then samus said, you can't say that Ridly, and gave him a good old finger wagging. Then Shrek came along and... ok i'm not sure if that was in the book now...

Hm, I wonder how much of this has been conceptualized during the heyday of the Metroid series during the ‘90s. Honestly pretty cool to see these classic characters injected with new context for their appearances. This manga makes a perfect companion piece for Zero Mission, and I’ll be excited to give that game a replay with a new perspective after finishing volume 2.

An unmissable origin entry in an essential franchise for any fan of sci-fi.

Great manga and really fantastic to see Samus' origins. Liked the storytelling even though the translation at some points seemed a little off. Samus also reads exactly like she appears in the games

This was... pretty terrible. Still, I was curious about the background to this story and there are a couple interesting new bits.

Can't say I love the art style especially for Samus but the story surprised me that it was actually interesting and added lore to the series.

3.5 if I could.

A bit rushed and brushing up many details but is great to learn more about the story of Samus in a different way than reading a wiki.
