I'm a Scottish writer, now living in Canada, with more than thirty novels published in the genre press and over 300 short story credits in thirteen countries.
My work has appeared in a number of professional anthologies and I have recent short story sales to NATURE Futures and Galaxy's Edge. When I'm not writing I play guitar, drink beer and dream of fortune and glory.
This book was so much fun! Why is this not a movie yet? I love, love, love R.C. Bray's narration. He is awesome! This story follows our favorite Glasgow detective, Derek Adams as he gets tangled up with a wolf skin belt that changes the wearer into a werewolf! There is others that want the belt and they will stop at nothing to get it. I love that Willie uses the old folklore of a wolf skin belt in this story. That made me so happy! The lore for the belt and the werewolves is also so, so good! I loved those bits. The banter of the goths from Glasgow was so fun to hear, again R.C. Bray is just so outstanding. Also again, why has this not been made into a movie? It would be so good! This was not my first read by William Meikle and it sure won't be my last!
The last in the Midnight Eye series of a tough private eye from Glasgow, who in this story ends up traveling to Canada. Each of these novels have taken on different supernatural themes with the first two being Lovecraftian gods and Norse mythology. This one is about werewolves. While greatly enjoyable, this was my least favorite of the three.
Life is good for PI Derek Adams, it can't last! Asked to look after security for a Lord, he soon finds himself on the run far murder, trying to avoid tales of werewolves. Good story in the series, with Adams dragged into the mythical world again.
And with this, we come to the end of the Midnight Files. This troika had given me genuine pleasure as long as the novels had lasted. Like any addiction, the hangover, followed by withdrawal symptoms have arrived in due course. If I ask myself, as to what were the features of this series that had caught my imagination, I would have to compose a list, that would include: mixing of old-world horror tropes with very much updated stories, almost hauntingly beautiful settings, crisp & taut dialogue, liberal invoking of history & myths, the protagonist (to say that Derek Adams outshines all other Occult Detectives would be overstated, but the simple fact that he desperately tries to stay away from the weird, makes him a more traditional hero), and Glasgow, the old city that lies dreaming. This novel, the last one in the series, epitomises all these aspects. I'm not sure if I would ever be visiting Glasgow, but if I do, then I would raise a toast to Derek Adams and the series. Recommended.
What a wonderful story! I did not realize it was the third book in the series, so I will be quickly adding the first two books to my Kindle. The setting in this book was so descriptive that I could truly picture the towns mentioned. The cast of characters was amazing, and I read this book from cover to cover without stopping so that I could find out what happened.
I am so grateful that I was introduced to these books. This is such a fantastic series, it grabs your attention from the first page and doesn't let go. It has mystery, some action and a fun story. I love it.
Hello, I liked this story. Perhaps not as much as the previous two, but good none the less. The villain in this one wasn't the caliber of the others. Thanks.
