New Mexico proves to be the perfect balm for her wounds and she is just starting to feel some of her old spunk when Tristan Winfield comes into her life and pulls all of her barriers down. Kalista is captivated by Tristan's unusual silver eyes and feels an inexplicable connection to him, which begins to manifest itself in her dreams with bizarre images of a waterfall and an orb.
While searching for an explanation for her troubling dreams, Kalista discovers an ancient book which holds the secrets of a supernatural race of creatures. But when Killings hit town, she realizes her finding has come at a high price. She's in the middle of a power struggle now, and a secret seems to be wrapped within the pages of that book. A secret she and Tristan are part of...
Though half of her blood calls her to Spain, Tatiana Vila was born in El Salvador, where she currently lives and works on creating awesome book covers.
When not designing or writing, she can be found binge-watching series, painting cool abstract stuff, eating way too many candies, and fantasizing about interior design makeovers.
I got this book to read and review from the Paranormal Romance & Urban Fantasy Fanatics! So what I liked about it: the bad guys were actually bad- they ate people!! how the story began and its adequate length the different lore that the author created for the shifters-the tried and tested routine became boring centuries ago!
What I did not like about it: the Instant Nescafe love between our main leads- a pitfall to avoid when writing YA novels how seemingly every guy at school was falling for our heroine the continuous twilight vibe I kept getting-it ruined so many things for me the ending disappointed me in so many ways-how Kalista believed that Tristan was toying with her
I'll still read the sequel and then decide if I want to continue.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
Overall this was an excellent read. This is one you should definitely pick up. There were a couple of storylines intermingled and the author does a wonderful job at doing just that. I was captivated, intrigued, and sucked into this story. I was falling madly in love with Tristan although I would say I loved Dean too! But for those with a hate for love triangles, there really wasn’t one here. Kalista knew who she wanted and never wavered. The other guy who didn’t receive her affections didn’t pursue her in a mad dash to win her over either. So have no fear.
But about 65% of the way through, I hit that stumbling block that was the killer of most YA books these days.
But I must say, I really liked this book despite my problems with it. I find myself in need of the next in the series and hope there is one available like now. I would have given it five stars if not for my spoiler comments. Again, everyone has their pet peeves and mine might not be yours. So give this one a try. I bet you will enjoy.
I recommend for older young adults. Although nothing explicit happens in the book. Certain subjects or hints at such caution me to say that.
First of all, thanks to Tatiana Vila for allowing the R2R group to review her book!
Overall Impressions I really, really enjoyed this book, far more than I even expected to! It's a good thing I still have some credit on my gift cards so I can buy the next book! The fact that it is a YA should not scare off any prospective readers. I did not find the characters to be overly whiny or acting too young (a problem I have found in other YA books.)
Basic Premise Kalista (great name, by the way!) is not your average teenager. Her mother passed away years earlier in a car crash, so Kalista has "issues" with cars and driving. She also bring new meaning to "electric personality" with the amount of static electricity her body seems to produce. She also, along with her father, just moved from New York to Ruidso, New Mexico...
She has already found a few good friends, and an "interested" male admirer, but due to a bad reaction from her former best friend in New York after Kalista declaring her feelings for him, she has pushed away the possibility of relationships with guys. She finally meets the school heart-throb male, and finds she is not immune to his attractiveness. But her resolve to keep guys at arm's length is tested when the guy seems to want to talk to her, and another is urging her to go out... Tristan is very alluring- but in a different world than Kalista, more than she even knows....
Life becomes even more complicated when teenagers are missing, then bodies prove that they were killed. And a chance encounter leads her to an odd, old book that details a new aspect of the world that Kalista never knew. She begins to learn the secrets of that world, but will she allow herself to learn the secrets of herself as well?
Thoughts- warning, could contain spoilers I can't say how much I enjoyed it. Sadly, my computer was down when I had finished it or I might have bought and started the second book right then and there! Sorry, realized days later that book 2 is not out yet! Can't wait! I didn't find many problems that I usually find in a YA novel. I would recommend this to anyone that would enjoy "shifter" books and does not mind YA. It was entertaining, had action, and romance. All around a great book! As with any book, there were a few points that left me wanting... ♦The change in point of view with Kalista and Caleb was disconcerting at first. I had no clue who that guy was, and why I was reading about him. Also- several of his parts were very ADD it seemed... his thought processes just bounced all over and it was difficult to keep up with his part of the story. ♦OK... So Kalista finds out about new things in her same old world, gets proof that they are real... then just ignores the other part of her reading/warning... maybe it's because I'm older- but if some old lady tells me I have "the Ylem" in me, and I find out there are shifters and stuff for real- I would at least ask those shifters when given a chance if they had heard of "the Ylem". It's like she just ignores her "strangeness" and accepts the shifter thing much easier than I expected. ♦I really wish there was more build up of the romantic feelings between Tristan and Kalista. It was better than some books showing a "reason" for them to be attracted and having some genuine interaction without just falling all over each other. But even more build-up would have been nice.
I fudged in favor of the book on the stars- (shows 5 stars on review)- but I am really, really picky about 5 stars- so I actually gave it 4½♥'s.
This was a good book, not great for me. To me it had a very Edward and Bella feel to it. The start of their romance seemed to have to same characteristics with Tristan being so hot and cold and Kalista falling so hard and fast. I found that I still had allot of questions when it ended like exactly what is the Ylem? Maybe we are not supposed to know yet (obviously) but still I would like to know since it is the title of the book I just read.
It was an interesting story but I really don't want to get into the plot to much because I think maybe it would spoil the way the books reads and what it discovered when.
Instead here it the description from goodreads...

So I would say this is a good read, and would be appropriate for a younger teen as well as entertaining for the older YA readers as well. It is definitely worth it to check it out and is an inexpensive ebook!
Thanks to Read 2 review in Paranormal Romance & Urban Fantasy Fanatics! group and the the author for sharing her work with me.
Honestly? This was a fantastic book; at first I wasn't sure if it was going to be one that I enjoyed, but as I got in to it, I really did. It was interesting, and you had to keep wondering about what was going on, who was who, and why things kept happening. It threw in quite a few interesting twists, as well, that definitely kept me wanting to read.
It's the type of book that only answers half the questions, and it makes you want to go out and pick up the next book instantly - something I definitely intend to do in the near future. The characters were developed well, they didn't just suddenly grow in to their responsibilities. The only character I'm not pleased with right now is Tristan, but that's because of his decisions, not his development. Someone needs to smack that boy >.>
The Caleb plot? It was brilliant, I don't want to say too much and have to put a spoiler in, but yes, it was definitely unexpected, and amazing, and I was dying by that point, because I was right near the end of the book and didn't have the next one near me D:
Aside from not knowing how to pronounce the title, I loved this book. I have to admit that I haven't read many shifter books, and I think I might have been missing out! lol.
I loved the world Tatiana Vila created! Can't wait to read more in this series.
This book is hard to rate. I really liked this book, but some of it was a bit if-y. Sometimes in the book, mainly in the middle, the story seemed to drag on a bit and you wonder if it's just there as "fluff" because it doesn't hold your interest too much to keep reading. But you do want to keep reading (if it makes sense).
A lot of questions haven't been answered in this novel. We are left in the dark about a lot of things in their world. Yes, we see it from Kalista's point of view and she doesn't know about their world either, but you would think that she would ask about it or want to know more. It seems that because she doesn't do this, that she does already know everything about their world, which she shouldn't. She also at times acts like she does, which leaves us in the dark as well.
At first, we see her dismisal to guys and love and trust issues as something that, from her situation, is really pointless. She over-reacts to the Steve situation, but it isn't until the end of the book that we realise that there was more that led up to it. With Tristan we ask ourselves WHY at the end of the book. It's very depressing and we are begging for more information as to why.
This is one of those brilliant books where you cannot guess what's coming. Really, I didn't guess anything, nor did I want to. Most of the book after the middle really got me as a shock. We get so caught up with Kalista's dramas that we forget about really guessing the story plot. Yes, I know this may be a little condescending from what I said earlier but it does make sense...once you read the book. And you should read the book! Oh, that cliffhanger. I really hate it at the moment, because I cannot wait for the second novel. It feels like this book is going to be one of those where it could be one big novel but instead it feels ilke it's cut in half and made into more.
I loved the addition to Caleb's perspective. It was refreshing, and because nothing much happened, we knew from either end what was happening on his side, even from Kalista's point of view. In other novels, including his point of view after a few chapters of the protagonists point of view, might of seemed like there was not enough because we couldn't remember what was going on from that side. But, in this book it is perfectly suited to a chapter in the midst of the few chapters gap of Kalista. This is because, from Kalista's point of view, we still hear of Caleb but from a view where he is anonymous and is part of a general group and not just individually. Both his and her views lead up to their shocking discovery at the end of the book that leaves you dying for more.
Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle!!!!!! First thank you, R-2-R and the author! I'm totally dumbfounded!!!! Someone, a few weeks ago, told me I needed to read this book, but I'm not even sure how to pronounce the title, so I have been brushing it aside. BIGGEST MISTAKE!!!!! How stupid, I admit this!!! I got my copy for review and I fell in love! I don't know what else to say except GIMME GIMME #2!!! Everything is well done in this book. It is very well written, it's got a great cliff hanger, and it's got enough mystery twisted with detail in the beginning to suck you in like a current! I could feel the sadness from Kalista (I love the character's names, btw) when she thinks of her mom! And you just know Tristan is gunna be something beautiful! I even fell in love with the supporting characters, whom I think Élan and Migan are my favorites!! I absolutely CANNOT wait until book two, like I need it yesterday! Thank you!!! It's books like this that make my life happy!!!
I really, really liked this book! I loved Kalista, the main character. She is strong and weak at the same time, she is very human. I like the mystery around her and the ending really made her even more interesting. I liked her relationship with Tristan, I am not a big fan of instant love. And even though this was instant love, because of the way they keep trying to push each other away, I loved it.
I recommened this book to everyone. I really liked it, it was refreshing and I am looking forward to the next book. The ending is a killer!
"Don't think. Your mind is going to fool your eyes. Instead, listen to your heart and you'll see the truth."
Okay...so it is really obvious that English is not Vila's first language. "You like to observe people a lot, isn't it?" "I made up some really nice friends." This made it seem that her friends were imaginary--which is pretty much true. They don't really do anything in the story. "Do. Not. Mess. Up. With. Me." See? There are a lot of odd word placements and Vila's sentence structures are horrendous. There are more than a handful of sentences and dialogue that just didn't make sense. I sat there scratching my head trying to figure out what she was trying to say. It didn't translate very well. Needless to say, it was very distracting.
BellaKalista
This would be the main protagonist. She's quite the character. Let me list off some of her fine traits:
In fact, she was quite boring. I honestly couldn't care less about what happens to her.
EdwardTristan
He had some cool abilities. Other than that, there is nothing remarkable about him.
Cheese FactoryRomance
If you're looking for some book mind-candy, you've come to the wrong place. If you're looking for a heartfelt romance, you've come to the wrong place. However, if you're looking for a really cheesy, insta-love, tragic hot mess, then you've come to the right place. It was absolutely pathetic. Kalista and Tristan kiss twice. Tristan comes back to his 80+ year old senses and realizes he would be putting every shifter's life in danger, so obviously, this relationship needs to become non-existent. Sounds reasonable. Kalista, however, doesn't think so. She thinks that she should get what she wants regardless of 900 other people's lives she would be endangering. So, after the singular day where their feelings were put on the table and then set on fire, Kalista becomes an emo bitch. Were we supposed to be sad for her? I wanted to kick her. I couldn't take them seriously.
Plot
Okay, so the underlying story in this book--which doesn't receive enough focus--is pretty interesting. I even liked the whole water crystal explanation. I also liked how it tied into explaining how Tristan's abilities worked, and what they were. The issue was that there was no structure to what was happening in this book. Everything felt like a half formed thought that never got full elaboration. Most of the things that took place in Ylem had nothing to do with the plot. I don't know why Tristan and company were even in school. What business did he have being there? His olderyounger brother wasn't in school. It was brought to the reader's attention that Tristan looked too old to be in school. So what the hell was he even doing there? Why were any of the shifters? They weren't allowed to interact with humans, so what was the point? Just so Kalista had a way of interacting with them? Can we say lazy? And as has been mentioned in many other reviews, it's clear that this story is just a slightly altered version of Twilight. And I do not appreciate it.
Overall
This was pretty much garbage. It took me a long time to read it because I just didn't want to. It was incredibly cheesy. I am completely baffled by the fact that this book got such raving reviews. I'm afraid I just can't trust Goodreads' judgment. Do I recommend this? No. If you liked Twilight, then go reread Twilight. This book doesn't really have anything to offer that you won't find there.
17 year old Kalista and her father move from New York to a small town in New Mexico. Most teenagers would probably be upset about this disruption in their lives, but Kalista is suffering from a broken heart and thinks that a fresh start might be just what she needs. Things seem to be going well – she makes friends quickly and even meets a handsome boy who intrigues her. Her life gets a little crazy though, when she finds out that some legends are actually true and paranormal beings are living amongst humans.
Tristan and Kalista both feel drawn toward one another, yet they both go back and forth from acting hot to cold toward each other. Kalista seemed to have a big issue with Tristan lying to her, yet she lied to everyone around her. Other than that, I really liked these 2 characters. There were definitely some sparks between these two and they seemed really good for each other.
There were some chapters devoted to a character named Caleb that had me confused throughout most of the book. The connection was revealed at the end though, and I'm really interested to see what happens with that storyline in the next book. I still feel a little confused though. Tristan still seems to have a lot of secrets and I never did figure out exactly what a ylem is.
The last chapters were great and definitely left me feeling surprised. It looks like we have to wait until April 2012 for the next book in this series. I'm dying to know what happens next, the wait just might kill me.
Secondly, I think I shall cry all because of stupid Tristan, can't believe i'm calling him stupid so ok let's go with stupid Esha!! I hate her so freaking much right now!! As soon as this book was halfway through, I just knew that it was not gonna be a happy ending (Thank God for a sequel) and I have to say it was very predictable.. I just wanted to smack him so bad!! The 2nd book just better be better or I shall scream!!
Caleb sounded so nice! I just hope when he realises who Kalista is, he'll protect her (:
And Gosh Kalista, SO WHAT if Tris lied to you about trivial things? *rolls eyes* some parts were annoying....
I received this book as a Read to Review (R2R) - as always, thanks to the hard working folks that allow us to read this books.
This story follows Kalista and Tristan on a path of mystery and adventure. Kalista, moving from New York, has an electrifying power. Tristan, the small town lead boy, is more than just your ordinary elite tier popular boy.
Pros: Intriguing story line. I like the fact that not all the supernatural is thrown out all at once. She makes you work to figure out what the possible powers and supernaturals are. Kalista is perfect in her confusion, and Tristan is priceless.
Cons: None that I can find. I really liked the story.
Best! Book! Ever! I loved this book so much I couldn't set it down even for a second. Every time I was interupted it was like be torn awake from an amazing dream. I'm not looking forward to waiting a whole year for the rest of Kalista's story. I can't wait to find out what happens between all those men in her life. Wow, what a lucky girl, well maybe not because it might be really difficult to juggle so many hot guys. Thank Tatiana for such a great escape:)
I absolutely loved this book. It got my attention from the prologue all the way to the end. The twists and turns are fabulous and only help to keep the book interesting. I am definitely getting the next book as soon as possible. I was dissatisfied with the end of the book, but in a strange way still liked it. Just going to have to see if my hopes for the story line take the turn I was hoping for, or if it will shoot off down a different path and be equally as gratifying.
Okay, for starters I must admit that I was surprised by the book, sometimes I have too big expectations and I end up disappointed. Here I was pleasantly surprised because not only was the plot fantastic but the whole book met my expectations, I couldn't put it down which believe me is a miracle. I love all the shifter-nymph-hybrid going on, it was original; and the story between Kalista and Tristan was realistic. What about Caleb ? Well I read some reviews before reading the book, so I didn't have the same frustration that some might have had, but I guess I can understand why everyone felt that way, I would have been lost, hadn't I read the reviews, first. But Curiosity bring out the worst in me.
Okay so I guess now that you read the beginning of my review you are wondering why didn't she put 5 stars if she enjoyed the book that much ? AND well ... The answer is that the author frustrated me, I hate when I'm in the black and in this book you're in the black the whole time, even if the ylem -which I still don't know what the hell that is- came up a few times, now I'm gonna have to wait until April for the second book to finally understand what that thing (ylem) means and is. The suspense got on my nerves, I am not a patient person, but I guess it's the job of a great author : make you feel, here I was frustrated, in awe, curious (I wanted as much as Kalista to find out Tristan's secrets) and even crept out (The whole thing about licking skin and berries, and the lady's "foreseeing" gave me the creep.); in other words Tatiana Vila succeeded where other authors didn't, I enjoyed the book, but I could have liked to read it after the coming-out of her second one, because I wouldn't have to wait until April to understand Kalista's role, and I think it's gonna be a big deal with the whole-weird-electric-current thing going on, and her attracting beauty I am sure there's more about her. I have high expectations for the second book and since Tatiana succeeded once to surprise me, I am not worried that she will be able to succeed twice. I am eager to learn more about Caleb, Kalista and Tristan; Kalista and Caleb seem to have a lot of things which I think are gonna get jeopardized, I'm dying to know what's gonna happen.
I totally recommend it.

I liked the storyline of 'The Ylem', it was a good combination of the YA romance that I love with a supernatural twist that is a re-imagining of a well loved paranormal genre. I have never read this genre as it is presented in this book and I congratulate the author for shaking up what can sometimes be a repetitive subject. Unfortunately I didn't feel that the story flowed as well as it could have...but it's not all bad!! For starters, the ending was brilliant! I'm really keen to know what will happen next as the author dropped a couple of really juicy bits of information just before the close of the book.
But having said that, I feel as if the book was unbalanced, for lack of a better word. For the first two thirds of the book I was getting the tiniest scraps of information when suddenly BAM! Information overload. It left me frustrated as it seemed that just as I was finally getting into the heart of the story, it ended. Also a couple of plot points which were revealed late in the book were given very little reference, if any, for most of the book and then were suddenly revealed to be key points of the story right at the end. It's almost like the author had written most of the book and then decided she wanted to change the storyline and just threw in these bits at the end rather than going back and weaving them into the story. Don't get me wrong, they're very, very interesting pieces of information but I just feel like they came out of nowhere.
There were several grammatical and spelling errors in the book (Well, at least in the kindle edition). I understand that this book is self published and as with many self published ebooks it is common to come across some minor errors. However I felt that there were more mistakes in this book than I would normally expect.
I dislike having to say negative things, but these were just niggling at me and I couldn't write an honest review without mentioning them. As I said I am enjoying the story so far and am looking forward to the next instalment.
*Warning* If you read this book, you will want to read the next one ASAP and it is not out yet. I know the Author is working on getting it out soon, but not having it to pick up right after was so not cool. ; )
Kalista has been the new kid in town after moving from New York to New Mexico. She has a little bit of an issue with Static Electricity and is really afraid of high speeds and driving by herself due to a car accident that took her mothers life.
Luckily, upon starting school she meets a couple who take her under their wing. Everything is going perfectly, she's even got a football player who wants to date her. Then Tristan moves to town and throws everything off. He is seriously good looking and she is drawn to him. But why do her friends seem so against their relationship and what is with all of the odd comments and secrets?
Overall this was a great YA Paranormal. At times I was confused with the secondary point of view from Caleb. I had no idea who he was and could not find myself invested in him as a character. Note to readers, he will make a little more sense at the end.
Kalista and Tristan as a couple ran hot and cold. She is *in love* with him from very early on, which tends to frustrate me. But this is just because I wish books would let the romance be drawn out a little more.
Kalista really only has 2 friends and after all of the secrecy and drama unfolds I feel like the disappear from the story, and I really missed them.
This is definitely a rollercoaster ride. Ups and Downs and twist and turns. Be prepared to be shocked and be left with an ending that leaves you anticipating the next book!
I really wanted to like this book... and I did. I enjoyed it, but not as much as I wanted to. It was just missing a bit of meat and finesse to give me that satisfying sigh of a great read.
I thoroughly appreciated the interesting twist on paranormal... it was refreshing and imaginative and rather unique given how much the vampire and werewolf thing has been done, and done again. I found myself interested in the history of these beings and wanting to learn more. I think the water crystals portion was fascinating.
I think the main characters had boatloads of potential but again, a little finesse missing to snare me completely. I found things a bit disjointed in terms of relationship building and conversations. There was a whole lot of hot and cold (on again off again) and not a lot of the lukewarm "get to know each other" that's needed to make things flow naturally. I think Tristan and Kalista are absolutely likeable and I could see the potential in their connection, but I didn't buy into it completely. It just lacked a bit of authenticity or realism...again things were just a bit disjointed.
There were a few parts that I wasn't sure how they connected to the storyline, or there wasn't enough time spent on the sub-plots to really work them into the main story smoothly. For 3/4 of the book I had no idea why I was reading the Caleb sub-plot and then out of no where the connection is revealed. I think the Caleb storyline will certainly hold more weight in the next book now that we know how his storyline connects.
Not a bad book... not an epic read either. I'll continue with the next book at least.
I love paranormal fiction especially when the story line and characters go against the norm of vampire, werewolf etc. myths. This is the case with "The Ylem." I truly enjoyed this first installment of the trilogy. Seventeen year old Kalista moves with her playwright father from New York to New Mexico. She does not resist the move especially when her bestfriend, Steve breaks her heart after she confesses her love for him.
While attending the local High School, Kalista is suddenly taken with the beauty of an incredibly handsome boy named Tristan. Although they fight their attraction for each other, eventually they will lose the battle. Their union reveals secrets and they are both thrown into a world filled with danger and death. To make matters worse, Kalista is entrusted with a rare book that vicious otherworldly creatures seek. She is in danger of the worse kind. Yet, there is hope. There are secrets that are yet to be revealed.
I loved this book and was totally engrossed with the plot, characters, secrets and the very world in which they live. Tatiana Vila weaves an awe inspiring tale that I just could not put down. To be truthful, the only reason I did not give this story 5 stars because while providing the reader with background material, I tired of reading all of the scientific references and explanations. While they were necessary to some degree, we did not need a "whole semesters" course. I cannot wait to read the next adventure in the series. My only regret is that the book will not be released until March 2012. Oh well, we must always wait for the truly good books don't we? Pick up this book you will not regret it!
It was beautiful, and yet so very disappointing. I had this book for years not wanting to read it through my slump, I finally pick it up and it captivated me, yet I am not happy. There are questions that are not answered, and tbh they will remain unanswered because by the looks of it the second book, Alluvion, which was suppose to be released THREE years ago(!), isn't even out. Wtf TAvila?
The Ylem is your typical YA paranormal read complete with a TSTL female, a brooding love interest, and a centuries long battle between good and bad werewolves, no I'm sorry, bugbears. *headdeask* Kalista spends ALL of her time pining over Tristan and his aloofness while simultaneously hiding from the big bad Chloe, who just happens to hate her... for no real reason... at all.
I wish there had been more substance to the book. There is a point where K goes into a book store and this really cryptic old lady tells her about werewolves and shows her this encyclopedia like book about their history, says something to K along the lines of "The Ylem is in you", yet provides no further explanation. I mean, we get NO EXPLANATION WHATSOEVER! Also the bad pack *snorts* happens to be looking for this book, so that creates some background noise for...reasons.
*sigh* I'm sorry for my incoherent review, but my thoughts are as jumbled as the mess I found in this long awaited book. I give it two stars for captivating my attention, and for Tristan and his silver eyes and water nymph abilities (I am a sucker for my element, and wolfies); but there were so many plot holes and a strong female character K did not make.
I didn't love it but I definitely didn't hate it either.
The book seemed sort of mundane during the first half - it gave you important information and brought up alot of questions but as the questions added up - none were answered.
The last 1/4 of the book had me hooked though and made my struggling through the first half worth it. Things started to make more sense and there was a lot of action. That is until the disappointment that Tristan throws on Kalista at the end, it seemed sudden and without reason.
One thing I wished for was a little clearer explanation of the Ylem and why it was so important. I am hoping that the second book will explain some of this and let us know why the insurgents are going to so much trouble to get it.
All that said, I am looking forward to continuing with this trilogy to answer those questions I still have.
I do not know where to start with this book. Like seriously. I LOVED it. And for the first time there isn't just one set thing that made me love this book. It was EVERYTHING about this book that made me fall in love with it. From the strong characters, to the amazing plot, and the paranormal aspect that she makes all her own. This book definitely left an etch on my brain, and I can not wait for book two.
Full review coming tomorrow....BUT I will say, I LOVED Kalista, Tristan is a hunk who needs to get his freaking head on straight, and Caleb, oh Caleb! I do not know much about you, but my heart lies with you, I can't wait to see how you play out in book two!
I think I would have given it three and a half stars. This books reminds me of the Twilight series. Werewolves, vampires, and teenager girl, oh, my. Yes, the main character was whiney but hey she's a teenager. Then the author did a twist at the end. I won't spoil it for those of you who are reading it. I did enjoy it over all and look forward to the 2nd one. Since this was a freebie, I say go for it.
This book was kind of hard to get into at first. But once I sat down and got in to it, I enjoyed it. I didn't care for the chapters that where from Calab's point of view. But fortunately, there was only a few of them. I really liked the chemistry between Kalista and Tristian. There were moments that I felt there was a lot of similarities with Twilight. But, I did enjoy the book and I'm looking forward to reading the the 2nd book.

This was a great story, loved how it unfolded & the character development. I really liked Kalista as the female lead, just a normal girl & she didn't whine! Definitely looking forward to the next book.
