When Darkness Falls, which Booklist called at the time of its publication "by far the best in the [Jack Swyteck] series," is now available as a free e-book in three parts. Part 3 includes a timeline of the entire Jack Swyteck series.
From the moment Miami criminal defense attorney Jack Swyteck is called upon to defend a new client -- a homeless man jailed for threatening to jump off a bridge -- it's obvious something is amiss. For one thing, the man called Falcon manages to come up with the $10,000 bail...in cash. Then the body of a brutally murdered woman is found in the trunk of the abandoned car he's living in.
But it isn't until a panicked Falcon takes a group of innocent people hostage, including Jack's best friend, and barricades himself and his prisoners in a motel room that Swyteck realizes how much is truly at stake. For Falcon has a bigger agenda than suicide, and Jack Swyteck must get to the root of a dark history and bitter secrets before Falcon decides he has nothing to lose by killing them all.

My Review - This book was just as good as the other two. I thought I'd figured it out and I did have it pretty much figured out although it was good to see it play out through the book. Looking forward to read more of James Grippando's books!
WOW! I actually spoke that aloud more than once while reading this third and final part of the e-book series. I love it when a revealed detail suddenly makes you understand tons of stuff than happened way earlier in a book. Grippando even had me feeling just a tiny bit of sympathy for the twisted, evil-minded villian.
This was a story of horror revisited... history touching the present. I learned a bit of history in the process. I may have a new favorite author as well. I enjoy a dramatic story that is not filled with curse words and sex. Neither is needed to make this story extremely interesting. At the end of each part, I couldn't wait to download the next! A real page-turner!
The editing was terrific. The characters were well developed and real, each with unique personalities. I loved the mix.
This was a conclusion to a 3 part series. The first part set up the tension, the second part built the characters more, and the third wrapped it up. I found the conclusion to be a surprise but satisfying. The book turns in at turn from into the historical content. It explores the Dirty War in Argentina which I had heard nothing about before reading this book. 'The disappeared' is an amazing story and the Dirty War is yet another examples of what happens to people when government gets too big. The book made me want to learn more about these events. Also, it enjoyed the authors style and ability to keep the story flowing while not forgetting to take time to develop characters.
I enjoyed parts 1 and 2 and am alamost done with part 3. Interesting premise of a blind homicide, "the Deparacidos", and murder. I've been taking advantaage of free ebooks since I bought my Kindle and I thought the writing might be poor and uninteresting. Surprisingly, most of the freebies have been well written, fun, and complex. I'll finishe part 3 today.
