Warrior’s Redemption by Melissa Mayhue
Paranormal Romance – Dec. 27th, 2011
4 stars

This magical time travel romance story will amuse and entertain you!

Dani has always been a dreamer. When her parents died, she lived with a harsh aunt but now she is on her own and alone. Dani has never felt like she fits in or belonged anywhere. For years, Dani believes in the magical fairies. After a terrible date, Dani makes a wish to finally belong on the night of Samhain when the separation between this world and the fairy’s is the thinnest. Unbelievably she finds herself transported back in time to Scotland! There she meets a very brash and appealing highlander...

Malcolm feels like a failure after the loss of his wife and his inability to control the current strife in his family. With the passing of his father, he is now at odds with his hateful, demanding elder half brother, Torquil. Torquil wants Malcolm's money from his inheritance and possession of Malcolm's sister for political gain. To add to Malcolm’s troubles, his mother in law, Elesyria has suddenly decided to visit and claims to be a magical Faerie! Things only become more complicated when Malcolm stumbles on a fairy ring where he finds a strange and beautiful woman and feels an odd connection to her. But he doesn't know if he can believe her when she claims to be from the future.

Soon Dani and Malcolm find themselves traveling together pretending to be betrothed to protect and deceive his brother. But what happens when pretending only seems too real?

This is a light-hearted romp that readers who enjoy fun time travel romances and engaging characters will definitely relish. Dani is a plucky heroine, and it is fun to read how she adapts to historical Scotland. Malcolm has genuine emotion and warmth unlike many of the one dimensional male heroes. I really enjoyed reading both of them getting to know each other. Malcolm is a particularly likeable and a worthy hero. When Malcolm surrenders himself instead of paying the money his brother unfairly demands, I was torn by his suffering. I also found Dani to be a brave and compassionate heroine, and I loved that she tried to save Malcolm. Both were admirable and deserving main characters. Malcolm’s mother-in-law, Elesyria is a particularly charming character as she brings some mischief into the story. Some sections of the story were a little improbable but the author makes you want to believe it and delight in it! I also liked how the romance was built slowly, and I could feel how they really came to love each other.

Those who believe in fate and love fairy tale like romances will be delighted by this big-hearted and charming romance filled with danger and excitement.

“Warriors Redemption” is a spinoff from Melissa Mayhue’s Daughters of the Glen series. I was totally surprised that this book was not a continuation of the Daughters of the Glen series, as the hero in this book, was from an earlier book in that series (A Highlanders Homecoming). But Mayhue wins you over very quickly. Pretty much everything in this new storyline is similar, with a wonderful Highlander hero; his soulmate from the future, and the story taking place in old time Scotland.

“Warriors Redemption” is about Malcolm MacDowylt, the Scottish laird and Danielle (Dani) Dearmon, a girl in present day, who believes in faeries. Dani Dearmon, a spunky and vivacious young girl, who spent 15 years waiting for the faeries to claim her for her destiny. On Halloween night, she creates a circle in her living room, and when she wakes up, she is in 1294 Scotland.

Malcolm is having his issues, and it seems to be getting worse by the day. His sister and youngest brother are held captive by his half brother Torquil, who wants everything that Malcolm owns in exchange for their freedom. Then Elesyria, a faerie, who is Isabella’s mother comes to visit Malcom. Yes the same Isabella, who escaped from MacDowylt , only to go back to the future with her soulmate Robbie and her ward Jaime. Though Malcolm blames himself for Isabella’s ‘death’, Elesyria knows she is alive in another time. With that, she offers to give Malcolm a gift, something that would make him happy. His soulmate…..,who happens to appear out of nowhere…from the future. enter Dani………..

It is Elesyria who convinces Malcolm to find and save the young girl who was destined for him. When he finds her, she awakens and smacks him with a fearsome punch to his jaw, he then brings Dani back to his laird, with the help of his good brother, Patrick. It is there that they find his younger brother Dermid waiting for them. Dani, who catches on quickly, about Malcolm’s problems, suggests that she be introduced as his betrothed, so no one would suspect anything.

Dermid has come to collect Torquil’s request for the freedom of his sister. Malcolm knows how evil and powerful Torquil is, and he refuses to allow Dermid to go with them, when they will travel to rescue Christiana, their sister. Christiana plays a major role in helping Malcolm and Dani, as she is also powerful in her own right, as she has the gift of vision.

Dani and Malcolm made a nice couple, though I thought it was pretty quick that they ended up having sex. But I really liked them together, and it wasn’t much longer that you could see them falling in love, and discovering the true meaning of being soul mates. But throughout the story, and the forthcoming battle to rescue Christiana, you are aware that Malcolm does not have enough manpower to fight Torquil. To stand up against him, he would have to make an alliance with another clan, which would force him to marry into that clan.

The story gets very exciting, when Malcolm is captured and tortured by Torquil. It is Dani and Elesyria, who try to rescue him, with Christiana’s help. As the battle between the powerful brothers comes to a climax, a few twists nearer to the end keeps this story open ended. However, just when Dani is willingly ready to return to future to save Malcolm, you get your happy ending. Mayhue does a wonderful job writing this story. It is light reading, fun, action filled and danger. You end up liking most of the characters, from Dani, Malcolm, Elesyria, Patrick, and Christiana. But as much as I enjoyed Malcolm, I loved Dani. She turns out to be a wonderful female character, and Mayhue does have a few good ones. Since this story ended with a lot more to come, I suspect Christiana will be in the next book.
That being said, I worry that Mayhue, who is continuing this “Warrior” series, will let go of Daughters of the Glen. I hope not…..I loved that series…loved the feeling of family, friendship between the two time zones (future and past). I want to know more about Dallyn, Pol, Wynn, Dair, Sim, Rosie, as well as hear more about the friends we have come to love. Please Melissa, do not abandon them.

A great read. I liked it!
http://anotherlookbookreviews.blogspo...

I enjoy a great Highlander story and the premise for Warrior's Redemption was just awesome. A little bit of magic, a little bit of Faerie, a little bit of time travel and a whole lot of Highland Warrior made for a wonderful romance story.

I briefly met the author Melissa Mayhue in June 2012 at a Readers & Writers Convention. I attended one of the workshops she helped facilitate. Melissa Mayhue talked about the research that authors investigate for a historical romances. I've always had respect for the amount of research that is put into a historical romance novel and this time period of 1294, I admit to not having any knowledge of this era. I kept her presentation in my mind a lot. I won this book, Warrior's Redemption during that presentation so it was a freebie for me. I loved the book so I am really happy I won it.

I'm fairly new to a time travel book genre. The only other time travel stories I can recall reading was the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon (my all time favourite) and the Highlander series by Karen Marie Moning (which I didn't care for). So I was going into the Warrior's Redemption with a completely open mind not really knowing anything about it. I liked it a lot. I will get the next book in the series.

One of the things that I like about Melissa Mayhue's writing is that she answered questions that a reader would have regarding the story through the book characters. For instance, I was puzzled about how all these Scots could easily welcome this blonde attractive newcomer with perfect teeth to their land and then not notice any difference in the way she spoke. I mean really, if they were speaking English at all, would they not notice how an American girl from Wyoming would speak compare to the clan? That question gets answered and other questions that I had that were similar. I love when the author explains and doesn't just hope the readers won't notice.

The attraction between Malcolm and Dani was believable. I also loved that they didn't sleep together the first night they were together. It was perfect. In fact, I was laughing when Dani made her way to his chamber by her determination to find out about her surroundings and he sends her away.

The MacDowlyt's siblings consist of an evil magical older brother, who is the villain we love to hate, Torquil then Malcolm (who is the main protagonist in Warrior's Redemption), Patrick, Dermid and a younger sister, Christina. Each of the siblings have a magical ability or a gift from the Gods. With the exception of Dermid. I found that odd and wondered if there was more to the story there. I liked the various different abilities. Each had their own usefulness.

Danielle was easy to like. She seemed to adapt to the time change really well. It would have freaked me out more than it did her. I really think she did find her soulmate with Malcolm.

However as great as Malcolm and Dani were, I think my favourite character was the Faerie, Elesyria. I truly have no idea how to pronounce her name but I loved all the extra she brought to the story.

Teasers: milk in trees are gifts to Faeries, ruby ring, sleeping with the horses, flour escape, marriage misunderstanding

Malcolm, has recently lost his wife, and blames himself for her death. Along with that, he is Laird of the Clan of MacGahan, and his sisters life is in danger from his older brother and he plans on rescuing her as soon as he can. Even though he is a descendant of Norse gods, he doesn't know how he will be able to protect his family and his clan from harm. Danielle has always believed in fairies. Ever since she was a little girl and read a book about fairies, she has, every day, for the past fifteen years, brought out some milk for them, no matter what is going on in the day, or the weather, she has remained constant in her belief in them. Dani believes that there is a purpose in her life, and that one day it will be revealed to her. She just has no idea what that purpose is. When Malcolm's mother in law comes for a visit, he questions why she would, since she is considered to be a fairy. But when she comes to the mortal world wanting to know the true reason of her daughter's death, she realizes how much Malcolm loved her daughter and tried to protect her. So as a reward to him, she decides to bring his soul mate to his side. On the evening of Halloween, which is the one moment you can commune with fairies Dani, goes through a ritual which lands her 700 years in the past and being rescued by Malcolm, who is determined that he doesn't fail Dani. At fist he wants to deny their attraction and the strong connection that only gets stronger. However he has certain obligations but he can't deny the true love he feels for Dani, but will he be strong enough to keep her from danger and at his side forever?

Over the past couple of years I have enjoyed reading from this author, my local library has only a few of her books, so I haven't read much of her. But when I was browsing the shelves this past week, I saw that they had both of her newest books, and I just had to snatch them up. Melissa Mayhue has such a talent to bring out such beautifully written stories where the reader can't help but be swept away in the magical tales she writes. I fell in love with this from the beginning and it didn't take me very long to read it, and when that happens, you know its amazing!! Definitely easy to get into, and a quick read that is a bunch of fun and adventure.

Warrior's Redemption starts out with this reader seeing both worlds of Malcolm and Dani. We see Malcolm trying his best to protect those he is over as best he can. But with the death of his wife, he blames himself and bears a whole world of weight of guilt on his shoulders. With worrying over his sister's welfare, and knowing he will have to marry a woman he doesn't know for a alliance that will bring justice for his older brother's wrong doings, he feels like his hands are tied. Then we go to Dani's side of things, who has been faithful in her devotion to the fairies no matter how many people ridicule or criticize her. She is a cook and works long hours that puts a roof over her head, but she wants more for her life. What she doesn't expect is to be brought in the past 700 years and to a medieval dominant man who makes her blood stir with passion. I enjoyed seeing these two develop into a relationship. I have always adored time travel romances, and this one is by far one of my favorites. I loved seeing the conflicts and how true love does conquer all. In this story, this couple are known as soul mates, which is the strongest union, and I also enjoyed the sense of magic that was played out in the story. It wasn't overly strong where it was the focus of the story, it was more like cream on top of a dessert, only added more flavor and deliciousness.

Now lets talk about my favorite aspect of the story....the characters. Now I just adored all the characters in this story, there was so much depth to them (even the evil ones). Malcolm, is very alpha type but not too overly much either. He is from the late 1200's, so very medieval, but the honorable type. Pure yumminess, I just wanted to gobble him up. Where can I find my own fairy right? There was so much that I liked about him.A Warrior, has a tattoo( and a beautiful one at that), but has a few weaknesses that made him so real to me. I just wanted to kiss away all the sadness from him. Dani, hasn't exactly had the best luck in her life. Her aunt was her mother and raised her, but when she grows up she still believes in magic and fairies, and I found Dani to be a bit predictable at times, but I loved how she would fight for Malcolm. She doesn't ever back down from a fight, and risks her own life for him. I really admired her tenacity and devotion. She was a very likable character.

Overall I found the story to be heart wrenching, and yet a beautiful tale of true love that bring two people that can't be more opposite and from two entirely different worlds. A riveting story from beginning to end, that made it a MUST NOT PUT DOWN read. Mixed with great humor, adventure, magic, and endearing characters that were deeply moving to the point that you can't help but fall in love all over again. A captivating love story that will take you on a adventure of a lifetime. A Magnificent start to the most recent series from this stellar author. A WINNER!!

This is a spin off series from Melissa Mayhue's Daughters of the Glen series. For new readers it may be confusing as several events in previous books are relied on to set the stage and could be confusing.

I liked the move away from the Fae-descended heroes and heroines. This was still full of all the tension and twists that are Mayhue's traditional forte. I felt like the whole Northman/Odin thing was interesting and I was disappointed that it wasn't really developed.

I didn't like the way Malcolm couldn't be the hero and get rid of Torquil himself. I also didn't like the way Torquil having extra something for being first born set him up as a really powerful bad guy and there was no resolution in this way. But that's just my personal taste.

I did like Malcolm and Danielle's romance and I thought it was sweet.

Obviously the set up means that Christiana's story will be next but I do hope the ever present Patrick will get to met his Soul Mate too.

Side Note:
I read the teaser for Warrior's Rebirth which will be the second book in the Warrior series and can I just say yay! The hero will be Chase Noble whose story I've been looking forward to since I heard about him in A Highlander's Destiny.

Melissa Mayhue has always been my goto author for anything Fae and Scottish. Warrior's Redemption is the first in a new series that features Malcolm MacDowylt as the new laird of clan MacGahan. He's another of those tortured heroes that I love so much. Of course he feels guilty for something that wasn't his fault and has the whole woe is me thing going on until Danielle Dearmon pops out of the clear blue sky and changes his whole way of thinking.

Though Dani had a little bit of a duh moment when she finally gets what she wishes for. Once she sees the truth, things take a turn for the better and romance is in the air. I liked everything about this story except Torquil. What an asshat and I can't believe

I'm looking forward to others in the series.

So i desperately loved the Daughters of Glen series by Melissa Mayhue, and I couldn’t wait to start up the second series of hers that takes place in the same world. Although its the same world and these characters were briefly mentioned in the Daughters of Glen series the magic of these stories are very different. The men of this series are descended from Vikings and believe in Norse mythology. There is little mention of the character from the Daughters of Glen series, but that more than ok, and there is definitely still talk and appearances from the Fae in the series. After so many books it was time to move past them. Now, after reading this novel I found the same kind of upstanding men, but something about the story line just didn’t hit me like the Daughters of Glen series. I liked the Norse mythology and the men, but I think it was something to do with the romance between the two main characters. I plan on continuing the series hoping that this was just a one off.

Good:

Malcolm- A pretty great guy

Bad:

Danielle—Something about her bugged me a little.

Overall the romance in this novel wasn’t something that had me swooning.

Overall (Writing style, story line, and general):

As always the novel was easy to read and follow. I liked the characters enough and loved the chivalrous men. The story line and adventures was well plotted and an interesting part to the story. The change in mythology and compilation of the Fae and Norse mythology was interesting to read. Overall the book was a good read and I will be continuing on with the series.

Oh the joy and diversion of an entertaining time travel/romance novel. I just love to dive into a book where you have to suspend any semblance of reality and just go with the fun. This is, I think, the third book by Ms. Mayhue that I have read and I was not disappointed. Her books are tales of the Faery and mortal world all mixed up with folk finding their SoulMate; the person that completes you. Sometimes the two happen to live centuries apart but that doesn't stop love.

In this novel Danielle Dearmon lives in current times but has always believed in faeries going so far as to leave milk out for them every night so they have something to eat. She waits and waits and is about to give up when magic happens. Malcolm MacDowlyt is feeling like a failure in more ways than one when his mother in law, a Faery, comes looking for her daughter. He let her leave with the love of her life and he thinks she is dead but she is not! Because he cared enough to let her go with her SoulMate his mother in law will now help him - but he definitely does not feel he wants her help.

The story rolls along with a well constructed plot and characters that you find yourself wanting to know - except for the bad guy, of course! And he is a wicked one to be sure. Wants to rule the world as most bad guys do. So, will he? You will have to read this fun and engaging time travel tale to find out. It leads into the next book of the series so it leaves you wanting more. You won't be disappointed with this book if you like to play at time travel now and then as I do.

Meh. Kind of silly. Danielle was a grown woman sneaking out dishes of milk for the fairies. She travels back in time 700+ years and barely blinks an eye. The differences in the way they lived back then, the smells, the food, the bad teeth - she barely mentions anything. A good time travel tale will give you at least some details/observations. Malcolm was almost overshadowed by his brothers - he didn't really grow on me.

It was a weak romance for me, quite boring... I ended up skipping pages for the last 1/3 of the book. I would have quit reading except I wanted to know how it ended - even that was lacklustre.

This was a great book, I enjoyed the mix of romance and magic. I also liked that we got to see a new side of a character introduced in one of the previous books as a villain. (But sorta not a villain.) If you like romance with a little substance, you won't be disappointed.

Malcolm, Laird of his Scottish clan has bigger problems then a visiting mother in law spouting off about fairies and magic. War is coming and his focus should rightfully be there. When his meddling mother in law Eleysria warns him of a girl who he must rescue he dares not to brush her off. Who he finds is Dani, a woman from the future with no idea how she came to be 700 years in the past, and in Malcolms strong embrace.

Dani never once believed that the fairy Goddess would send her to the past. She’s not quite sure she even believed the fairies were listening. Now she is stuck in historical Scotland with no way home. In order to throw off Malcolm’s evil half brother, she agrees to pretend they are betrothed to hopefully throw him off his game to take over Malcolms territory. The problem with pretending is that, at some point, it becomes real.

I’m not sure where to start this review. I really enjoyed the book but I can’t seem to get into words why exactly. You may just have to take my word on it. :) To start with I’m not quite sure what to label this book. It’s a mix of historical, contemporary and paranormal romance all rolled into one and usually that would annoy me. Melissa Mayhue makes it work and work well and so I ended up really liking the characters and their interactions.

Dani is our heroine. She is spunky and true to herself and her belief in fairies. Regardless of what others may think of her, she holds fast to her beliefs. On Halloween night she makes a plea to the fairy goddess to finally be rid of her boring life. To be taken to where she is needed, where her destiny is. She is beyond shocked when to fill her destiny she gets sent back to 700 years in the past. I loved watching how she adjusted to historical Scotland. How she reacted to Scottish Laird, Malcolm upon waking in his arms the first time. The girl has a mean punch! For a girl that should be rightfully confused with her surroundings, she is extremely brave and doesn’t hesitate when the people she is coming to care for are in danger. Included in those is Malcolm. Pretending to be engaged is one thing, but actually starting to feel like it is another.

Having already lost one wife, Malcolm doesn’t believe he can take care of anyone, let alone this woman claiming to be from the future. He bears the weight of a ton of pressure. With a war approaching, with his own brother, he spends a lot of time stressed out. His half brother leads a rival clan and Torquil isn’t known for his patience. He also has Malcolm’s sister, who he holds in high regard because of her visions. Malcolm knows he must get her back safely and soon before Torquil exploits her abilities for his own gain any further. Further complicating his life is his ex mother in law, Elesyria, who, along with the goddess, is the reason Dani has shown up in the first place. His reasoning tells him fairies aren’t real but the fact are screaming that they are. I liked his willingness to see outside the box and go with his gut. He isn’t fully healed from losing his wife and here comes Dani with her sassy mouth and directness that, as a laird, he isn’t used to people expressing.

I found Malcolm to be a highly engaging character. First off I have a thing for accents and Scottish, even in my head, sounds HOT. Secondly he stood up for what he believed in and when given the opportunity to buy his way out of a sticky situation, he instead surrendered myself. That’s just not something you see (or read) a lot of. I found the vulnerability endearing. On the flip side, upon hearing about his capture, Dani goes into warrior mode and become the heroic hero. The flip of roles was just flat out good reading.

Readers that enjoy a bit of a mix to their romance heavy on the time travel should really enjoy this one. It’s light-hearted and easy to read and I didn’t once find myself cursing the number of pages between the covers. There is very little sex and what there is feels more like a “fade to black” type of scene. I would say if anything I wanted more emotion. There are times that I didn’t feel the connection that was growing between Malcolm and Dani. I read the words but that spark was lost to me several times.

I give Warrior’s Redemption by Melissa Mayhue 4 stars!

***original review posted at Romancing Rakes***

I love Highlanders. Whether they're in their own time or ours. I love time travel romances. The rush of the past colliding with the present makes for a laugh out loud read. Hellooo! Communicating and using modern phrases that confuses the other person gets giggles out of me.

Reasons to Read This Book:
1. Highlanders. I mean, I just wanted to have this one reason and I know you'd read it because of their super awesome alphaness but Malcolm 'Colm' MacDowylt deep down inside is a big softie. His sister is held captive by his half brother, Torquil, who is super powerful (with lots of magic), his younger brother Dermid is all gung-ho about going to rescue their sister and bam! some woman falls out of the sky and turns his life upside down and inside out with her weird modern day phrases.
2. The Modern Day Woman. Poor Danielle Dearmon. She's been leaving out milk for the faeris since she was girl and has gotten nothing. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Bupkis. Finally fed up with not hearing from the faeries (finding her greater purpose and/or destiny in life) she takes it upon herself to reach out them. During Samhain, she creates fairy circle in her living room (after spending her paycheck on expensive stones) and calls out to them. Bad idea. She wakes up in another stone circle, cold and alone. Slightly disoriented.
3. Fairy godmother. *snort* Okay. She is a faerie and the mother of Malcolm's deceased wife. She breezes back into his life and claims that she wants to see him happy. Happy in the form of a woman from the future. As Dani's companion, she tries to teach her about the time Dani is in. I have a feeling that there's something going on between Elesyria and Malcolm's brother and right hand man, Patrick.
4. Evil half brother. Not bad boy brother but evil half brother. There's a difference. Torquil was the only child of his father and mother. His father took up with Malcolm's mother and intended for Malcolm to inherit. *cue lots and lots of jealousy* It doesn't help that Torquil is magical and can wreck havoc with it.
5. Future-seeing sister. Christiana MacDowylt is being held prisoner by her half brother Torquil since she has the gift of vision which is the only power he does not have. Malcolm tries to rescue her but she tells him that it is not meant to be. Someone else is supposed to do it and he should just leave her there. I am anxious to find out how she is rescued after reading the teaser at the end of the book.

FAVORITE QUOTE:
His accusation felt like a punch to the stomach. Here she was spending her nights battling some physical obsession with this man, and he viewed her as nothing more than punishment from the Fae.

OVERALL: Why has it taken me this long to read a Melissa Mayhue book? (no don't answer that) She's reminded me why my first love will always be Highlanders. It's not those easy access kilts or the broadsword strapped to a muscular back (Well, who am I kidding? It's that first and foremost) but the way to guard and love their women. All that alpha aggression put to use in *ahem* the bedroom. Mayhue weaves a magical tale of danger, love, laugh-out-loud moments and above all, sacrifice. I am looking forward to reading Christiana's story and am hoping to hunker down and read The Daughters of the Glen series, of which this one is a spin-off of.

Melissa Mayhue once again works her magic with Warrior’s Redemption her Ninth book in the Daughters of the Glen Series. While this books brings us back to the Clan MacGahan where Malcolm has been Laird for the past year. Having obtained his goal of becoming Laird one would think life would be good.. yeah one would think..

The past year has not been great for the Clan MacGahan and Malcolm MacDowlyt blames himself. He is riddled with guilt that his “wife” Isabella was not able to escape to freedom and died. Firmly believing that had she remained with him she would have if not been happy at least been alive he feels he failed her. On top of that, her mother, Elesyria, Fae servant to the Earth Mother believes that Isabella has died, that her life was cut short way too soon and has asked for and received permission to return to earth to punish those who hurt her or reward those who helped. After deciding that Malcolm had nothing to do with Isabella’s death but rather tried to ensure her happiness, Elesyria decides to reward him with a boon..

Danielle Dearman is convinced of one thing.. that Faeries exist and that she has a purpose somewhere.. Just not where she is. Having read in a book at the age of 8 that Faeries like warm milk, Danielle made sure to feed them. Never missing a night for 15 years! No matter where she was or what job she was working at, she made sure the Faeries were fed, braving bad weather and ridicule she stayed true to her belief, that her life was somehow intertwined with the Fae. Finally after years of wondering she has discovered that the veil weakens at midnight on Samhaim and Dani has decided the time was right to speak to them.. Her request of course leads her smack dab in the middle of the 13th century... guest of Malcom MacDowlyt, Laird of the Clan MacGahan.

Although they both refuse to accept the fact that Dani is his reward not his punishment and that together they have been gifted the chance of a thousand lifetimes. The chance to love their soulmates.. Initially they fight the attraction but just as they decide that maybe they belong together, life throws a few challenges at them.

Malcolm has been blessed with a wonderfully complex family, an evil brother, an innocent sister, a brother who stands beside him and a much younger brother that just wants to be recognized as a man.. not a little boy. Tonquil, Malcolm’s oldest brother lusts for power.. really only having two goals in life, to rule the world *sigh* another evil I wanna rule the world despot.. although he does want to return it to the old gods.. and his second desire is to destroy Malcolm in any way possible.

Ms Mayhue has stated that this was the start of a spin of series called The Warriors and she introduces is to many fascinating new characters and an entire new pantheon to deal with. *grins* she makes me smile every time Malcolm’s brother and second in command Patrick calls Elesyria an elf.. She walks a fine line between telling a story about characters we have come to love and introducing the new series and she does a fine job. I am intrigued to see what is going to happen.. the sparks fly between Elesyria and Patrick will something come of that? We are promised a fine story between Christiana MacDowlyt and Chase Noble in a future book and of course the very vile Tonquil still lives.

I found it interesting I was never quite sure who was good and who was bad throughout the story. When family is involved there are always sure to be split loyalties..

Ms Mayhue has brought us another terrific storry and I strongly suggest you read this book.

Review of Melissa Mayhue’s Warrior’s Redemption
By M.L. Guida
Melissa Mayhue starts a new series, The Warrior, which is a spin off from her Daughters of the Glenn Series. Her first novel in this series is Warrior’s Redemption. The hero is Malcom MacDowylt, laird of Clan MacGahan. He holds himself responsible for his first wife’s death, Isabella MacGahan. In A Highlander’s Homecoming, Isabella time travels into the future and lives with her husband, Robert MacQuarrie, living in present time, but Malcom believes she is dead and suffers with guilt. Mayhue ties these two books together nicely, but if you did not read A Highlander’s Homecoming, the Warrior’s Redemption will stand alone. The heroine in a Warrior’s Redemption is Danielle Dearmon, who learns be careful what you wish for, you might just get it. She honors the Fairies and in hopes they will show her the life she is supposed to live. They do. Danielle or Dani is flung back to the year 1294 in Scotland.
Isabella’s mother, Elesyria, a Fairie, plays havoc with both Malcom and Dani’s lives. After Elesyria learns Malcom played a part in keeping her daughter safe, she decides he needs to be rewarded with his lifemate, who happens to be Danielle. On top of an interfering Fairie, Malcom and Danielle must battle his evil older brother, Torquil, who possesses the black Magick powers of Alfodr and has the ability to change form. He desires to kill Malcom, who resents since he is protected by Odin and wears Odin’s Mark of Protection on his breast. He lures Malcom to his castle by refusing to let their sister, Christina, leave. Christina has the gift of Sight and can’t lie about her predictions so Torquil keeps her his prisoner.
As you can see, Mayhue introduces new characters into this book – Norse Gods, both good and evil. The Norse Gods are powerful, even more so, than the Fairie Elesyria, which adds an interesting conflict. At the end of this book, Mayhue foreshadows the continue conflicts between the Norse Gods in her next book, Warrior’s Rebirth.
Throughout her chapters, she ends each one with a hook which propels you into wanting to continue. In this Warrior series, her love scenes are spicier than the ones in A Daughter’s Glenn, but still sweet. Mayhue’s ability to show sexual tension makes the scenes more sensual.
She is able to develop rich characters and you find yourself rooting not only for Malcom and Danielle, but for Elyseria, Patrick (Malcom’s brother) and Christina. Her villain, Torquil, is well-rounded and not just a flat character. His powers are unique and have to admit, I’m glad he’ll be around for the sequel. Without a villain, there can’t be hero.
Melissa Mayhue succeeds in creating another fast pace series, and you’ll enjoy Warrior’s Redemption.

I was lucky enough to meet Melissa Mayhue years ago when I was still a bookseller and Mayhue was at the beginning of her career. I bought an autographed copy of her first book, so don't ask me why I inexplicably read Warrior's Redemption first. (It may have something to do with library books and due dates...) Reading through the reviews now that I've finished, several people mentioned that new readers might find this a confusing starting point. While I'll admit that it took a bit for me to get my feet firmly planted in the story, and while I admit that there may have been subtleties and continuing storylines that I missed, I still think I followed this one pretty well. And once I did get my bearings, I had a lot of fun.

I don't know what it is about time travel romances and Scotland, but I swear they go together like peanut butter and chocolate. It probably has something to do with the mystique of the Highlands: with the mist and heather and standing stones. That, and the kilts. Seriously, don't underestimate the pull of the kilt. That mystique is harnessed well here, when our feisty modern heroine with few ties to her own time gets tumbled into medieval Scotland. Unhappily for her, but happily for us, she lands smack in the middle of a family standoff involving all the gods of the Vikings: Odin, Thor, Frey. Yep. That's right. Not only do we get Highlanders, we get Highlanders descended directly from invading Vikings. Speaking as someone whose great-grandparents immigrated from Norway, I dig this.

Nothing much gets resolved in this book on the Family Feud front. Instead, all the groundwork for the oncoming storm (*cough*DoctorWhoReference*cough*) is laid out. We get to know the major players, their strengths, and occasionally the depth of their crazy. I've seen a couple of reviews that complained about the lack of the "Big Battle," but I actually appreciate a good foundation. If you give me a good map now, along with a solid understanding of who everyone is and what they want, I can fully sink into the final fight. It'll be all action, all the time, instead of the occasional pesky aside to explain the significance of some happening or another.

Danielle Dearmon has known that faeries are real. Ever since she read all about them in some books. Fifteen years later, Dani still leaves food out for them. She has always thougfht that once the faeries noticed her then her true life would begin. So Dami decides to ask the faerie queen to show her where it is that she belongs. She has always belived that she did not belong in the her and now.
Malcolm MacDowylt is the new laird of the clan MacGahan. In order to be accepted by the clan, Malcolm married the granddaughter of the old laird. When she leaves with the man that she loves, Malcolm lets them both go. Then he gets word that his wife and her lover were killed and he blames himself because if he had made her stay with him she would still be alive. When Malcolm get word that his father has died and now his older half brother is taking his fathers place as leader. He wants Malcolm to turn over his land and money to him even though he has no right to it. When Malcolm tries to get his younger sister, his half brother refused to let her go.
When Malcolm finds a strange woman in a fairy ring he feels a strange connection to her. When she tells him she is from the future and that the fairy queen sent her back in time, he doesn't know weather to belive her or not. Malcolm is going to have to trust Dani if he wants to free his sister.

This is the first installment in Ms Mayhue's Warrior series. This series is a spinoff of her Daughters of the Glen series. I don't know how she does it but Ms Mayhue keep this series fresh and exciting. Each story is better than the last. How the hero and the heroine slowly fall in love and they learn to trust each other. This series will not dissapoint. You can't go wrong when you pick up one of Ms Mayhue's books. Malcolm has viking heritage and his family is descended fro the Norse Gods. This is a different twist on the Daughters of the Glen series.

I thought this book was a little more lighthearted than I’d like my paranormals to be. I liked it, I didn’t love it. I thought that her obsession with the Faeries was kind of ridiculous, especially as she got older. I didn’t blame the other people one bit for thinking her silly. I would have, too.

It bothered me that Malcolm was rather weak throughout the whole book. He didn’t quite come across as a leader, Patrick did more than he. He didn’t strike me as the same guy who rode into that town and demanded a marriage.

I thought the “picnic” exchange between Dani and Malcolm adorable. A lot of the things that happened between them would usually gain an eyeroll from me. But since we know almost immediately that they are SoulMates, I gave them a pardon. For example, Dani just met him and already kind of obsessed with Malcolm.

And I thought the villain was comically villainous. I imagined him just being sooo over the top, because the way he thought was just weird. I think there are better ways to convey that someone is evil other than the way that Torquil was portrayed. He sounded like he giggled a lot. And was very short. And drummed his chin with his fingers a lot. And when he wasn't drumming his chin, he was twirling his mustache. Giggle giggle.

And WHY, pray tell, couldn't they have Seems like it was just a way to keep the series longer than one book. I do believe this could have easily been resolved in this one book.

This is not the kind of romance I typically read. It has so many elements to it--Scottish, time travel, faeries. And yet, I found it thoroughly enjoyable. When the faeries finally heed the calls of Danielle (Dani), she finds herself whisked from a truck stop in contemporary Wyoming to the Scottish Highlands in medieval times. There she meets her Soul Mate, Malcolm, which is an interesting twist because usually romances have the two main characters dithering around about whether they actually love each other. In this story, there's no doubt that they are meant to be together. There are complications, of course. An evil older brother bent on destroying Malcolm and anything he loves, a conniving younger brother, plus another laird who might want Malcolm to marry his daughter in exchange for military support. But Danielle (arriving on the scene from 700 years in the future) is a refreshing addition to the mix. Her character is well-drawn, solid and courageous. And Malcolm, despite his many burdens, is more than willing to embrace his destiny--undying love.

What happens when modern day is transported to ancient Scotland and lands smack dab in a dangerous family feud?

You are given a wonderful love story full of fairy's and accent's combined is what happens.

Malcom's already lost one wife and blames himself entirely over it, despite the opinions of others. Because of that his heart is closed off to the female sex, after all once bitten twice shy so the saying goes. It doesn't help that his thoughts are otherwise preoccupied with how to fight the eldest of his brothers and save his sister.

Dani, our heroin of the story definitely had her work cut out for her as she found herself quickly falling for her 'ancient' viking. But can she give up her soul mate and return to her own time for the sake of her people that she has come to love.

This story had a little bit of everything for me and I enjoyed it allot. True it seemed a little rushed but the romance and steam certainly made up for it.

Tattoos, Magic, Warriors, Plaid & Soul-mates...
I could almost stop right there, but absolutely can not. I can tell the worth of a book by the amount of time it takes me to devour it. The jewel of Paranormal Romance took me 3 hours. Melissa has created a wonderful spin-off series from her Daughters of the Glen series, but Warrior's Redemption can stand quite alone on it's own two feet.
We have the pleasure of meeting Malcolm. Gruff, tormented warrior; seeking to do everything he can to right wrongs committed in his past. His constant commitment and undying love for his clan & family melts your heart with each turn of the page.
Dani. A modern woman trying to find her place in the world, daydreamer, believer of fairies and wishes; determined to belong...somewhere...sometime.

By fate or magic these two cross paths and adventure, romance & steamy moments ignite. A page turner, worthy of a serious gander.

Make sure this one is on your TBR list right now!
