We have had this book in our home library for years, but I have recently been reading one or two stories from this book each day for a couple of months. Each story needs to be savored and and contemplated. The history, observations and dreams of NYC presented in this book, many by famous authors and writers from long ago, are fascinating! NYC has been thriving and changing in the lives of so many for years, and yet there is so much that we can relate to in the present. Why didn't I read this years ago? Definitely recommend to anyone who loves reading about NYC history for new views of life in this wonderful city. Wonderful artwork and illustrations also included in this book.

One of the things I absolutely love about this book is that practically every generation has this vision of how New York is ok now, but it was even better before.... They are all consecutively sad they don't live in the cooler city in days of yore. Which is terrifically funny, because the people who actually lived in the days of yore were all nostalgic about the days of yore-er.
