Pp. xiv, 328; 117 text-figures (many full page) – maps, ceramic diagrams, black-and-white photos. Stiff pictorial light brown wrappers, lettered in white, 4to. This volume describes the results of archaeological research on the island of Panay, Philippines. The author found widespread and convincing evidence for the survival of a hunter-gatherer culture in the island up to the time of the Spanish conquest. At this same time much of the coastal Philippines was already occupied by sophisticated maritime populations living in villages and associated with agricultural-based economies. No ownership marks.
