Humor comes in many different forms. Yesterday I touched on Tom Sumner’s All I Wanted Was a Haircut. His brand of humor is a bit different from BDA (I need to save keystrokes here people, so from now on through this post I am going to refer to Big Daddy Abel as BDA), all of it in good way. Besides that, I needed to lighten the mood today from my earlier post on Laurie Bowler’s Across the City Chapter Two. There is no bloodletting or vampires in BDA’s Open Mic Volume Two, hopefully that doesn’t bum you out. Here is what you can find on your ereader if you download this fine feat of whimsy for the requisite $.99:

Here is bit of what is in Big Daddy Abel's Mind:
One of Big Daddy Abel’s favorite quotes, "So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future."

I added some of his bio so you can get a groove on where the man is coming from. When it comes to humor, I think the person’s background and motivation is important. I get to go toe to toe with BDA in The G-ZONE March 22nd @2.30PM EST and I will ask him just that. What is your motivation? Where do you get this stuff? I think you will find the answers to the questions rather moving and insightful. The man does actually wear his heart on his sleeve. Have you seen his pictures on Facebook, all 4900 of them? That type of honesty and care when he is having his photo taken with others can’t be faked. The man actually cares; that to me is hallmark, and it shines right through on the virtual page. For me it burns brighter than anything. Laughing is one thing, and I did that while reading this installment, no doubt about that, but the lynchpin for me was the brutal honesty and sincerity in his writing. I find it not just refreshing, but a breath of fresh air in a very stale place. Give Big Daddy Abel a try, you will laugh but you will also be touched.

Big Daddy Abel rules. I have seen him perform, Love him, Love him,Love him. Trust me ladies, he is a hunk and a half.I wish my hair was half as nice as his. But anyway, his writing is intense, heartfelt and beautiful. He is also very funny, that is the twist. I will be reviewing Open Mic 2 very soon ,I hear he is working on Open Mic 3 and I have seen the cover art for the collaboration he is doing with Giovanni "The G-Man" Gelati, "The Jersey Shore Has Eyes", a zombie/humor short story. Personally I can't wait.Drop the $.99 on this ,you can't lose.

I actually read Open Mic Volume Two before the first one - yeah, I know, I sometimes do wild and crazy things like that. For me, this installment was a ton of fun and brought back my own memories of Ozzfest. What does that have to do with BDA's writing of Open Mic 2? Well, in this piece, he talks of an encounter with the infamous and adorable bat-eating man himself, Ozzy Osbourne (who, by the way, thought BDA was Fabio - the butter dude - and made this known repeatedly in public, lol) In addition, Brian Warner (you know, that guy known as Marilyn Manson?) and the main source of BDA's vision - Sharon Osbourne. This takes place during the early time of Ozzfest and is a hoot - and yes, speaks of BDA's angst to get his demo CD in the hands of Mrs. Osbourne.

In addition to the "Ozzy incident", BDA also reminiscences about his time in film with tales of on set meetings that will amaze and leave you smiling broadly - not to mention laughing (go on, it's okay, let that little bubble of hilarity float free).

Talk of personal space and how NOT to invade it is also an underlying theme throughout. I loved when BDA talked of those crazy fans and those ladies that, well, get a bit excited. Here's an excerpt:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ladies, why go CRAZY when "Crazy Bitch" is played by a band or comes over the jukebox, but yet the moment any guy CALLS you a crazy bitch you turn into the Incredible Hulk-tress?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

For me, this volume was a fun one, though still spoke of honest issues and feelings. Another BDA hit!! Do yourself a favor and go and grab a copy - now!!

The first "Open Mic" was a pleasant surprise that I really enjoyed, so I had to check out the next installment. If you liked the first one, there's a very good chance you'll enjoy this one. Big Daddy Abel's passion for performing and the people in his life continue to shine through in the writing. BDA is an animal unto himself, and his views on life are as contagious as his music act.

Big Daddy Abel does it again with this follow up to Open Mic. In this edition, he opens up to his readers with amusing personal stories from on and off the stage. He delivers with such candor, you can't help but be totally engrossed in his stories and you're left wanting more.
