Here's a new author-to-me and I was impressed. I saw a review on this, it grabbed my attention, and with one-click, it was mine! Another series set in a small town but a little different because of the Alaskan setting. The characters are what made this one a hit with me. If you're looking for something fun, light and romantic, I recommend it. I particularly enjoyed the big splash of sizzling heat -- maybe it has something to do with the change in the weather, or maybe something else entirely!! Anyway, I liked what I read and will check out the next one in the Alaskan Nights series from Addison Fox.

Really 2.5 stars, this had lots of potential. Fox is great at setting up her series, since there are three (yes, that many) other romances that seem very interesting, but the main romance, between Sloan and Walker just has no chemistry. To make matters worse, every scene that leads up to sex doesn't seem as though it should equal these two suddenly falling into bed. That said, the black moment is equally obscure, and most of the conversations these two have lends one to think 'what just happened?'. To compound the situation, the whole premise is some competition for women in Alaska to win the honor of bidding on bachelors (I think) but you never learn how the competition works, or see the competition itself- which wouldn't bother me so much, but with all the build up and the fact that the heroine does compete...well...disappointing.

This was such a good start to an awesome series and I came to care about all the people we met.
The three grandmothers who wanted to get their grand-sons married, a potential romance between the doctor and a grandmother, the grieving widower Jack and Jess, Mick and Grier and even Avery and her teenage romance with hockey star Roman beyond the main romance between Sloan and Walker.

Sloan makes her way to Alaska to give support to her best friend Grier who is fighting with her newly discovered half-sister Kate for what her father left her. Sloan is also getting away from her mother and her match-making attempts, she also is a freelance writer and when she hears about the bachelorette organized there every year she gets some story ideas.

She runs into Walker there, the town's lawyer and one of the grandsons and they share some great chemistry but don't act on it fully for quite some time.

Walker has commitment issues all stemming from his father's philandering behaviour and what he believes is his well-kept secret*he thought his grand-mom didn't know about it) but love has a way of striking unexpectedly and I loved the whole ride.

I was invested in every romance, mainly Avery and Roman's and I am so sad that we have to wait a full year for the next book in the series.

This is a pretty cute little romance set in the snowy town of Indigo in Alaska. Sloan is a very middle class New Yorker who, much to the horror of her mother, is over 30 and as yet unwed.

Her friend Grier has gone to Indigo to resolve an inheritance issue with the Father she never knew and calls on Sloan to come and visit her. Sloan agrees and her and Grier befriend Avery who works in the local hotel/bar. These 3 girls will feature as the heroines of the 3 novels (so far) of the Alaska Nights trilogy.

So, this novel is the story of Walker and Sloan. Walker is a resolute bachelor and is also Grier's lawyer. His best friend Mick is a local pilot and Roman completes the triumvirate and these will be the heroes of the books. Their grandmother's organise an annual Bachelorette competition where single woman compete for the eligible bachelors of Indigo.

Sloan arrives in town just in time for the competition and is persuaded by Walker to enter the competition. The competition is just a backdrop to the burgeoning romance between Walker and Sloan. Sloan becomes more and more charmed by Indigo and, of course, Walker who has major commitment issues due to the philandering of his father.

The romance was sweet, they fell in love very quickly, I thought and,of course, denied their feelings almost until the bitter end. The biggest problem I had was seeing LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian in the roles - couldn't get that awful TV movie out of my mind and it seriously hindered my ability to recreate this world in my imagination. I got past it in the end but not until half way through the book.

So - cute, light, fluffy - nothing too challenging - an enjoyable read.

3 stars contemporary romance

Baby it’s Cold Outside, Alaskan Nights #1, by Addison Fox
Grade: B +

“I see picnics and dates with you, Walker. And it pisses me off. You’re supposed to be fling material and instead you look at me the way you do and you engage in snowball fights and you even think I’m sexy in the most hideous hat in the entire world. So, yeah. You make me think of mushy shit.”

Walker Montgomery has spent the last fifteen years trying to avoid his grandmother and her friend’s annual Great Bachelor Competition, a contest that is designed to marry off the eligible men of Indigo, Alaska. That was before Sloan McKinley rolled into town from New York City to help her best friend Grier settle her late father’s estate. Sloan is a burst of pure energy and easily wins over the locals of Indigo, especially the grandmothers in charge of the Competition. Sloan has decided to use her time in Alaska as an opportunity to write an article for a travel magazine and she soon finds herself falling in love with this small town of eight hundred people. When Sloan and Walker both agree to enter the competition together as a bet they soon find themselves fighting to win not only the competition but each other.

Baby it’s Cold Outside is the first book in Addison Fox’s Alaskan Nights series and it’s the first book that I have ever read by her. Let me start by saying that I am hooked on this series and I need the next book RIGHT NOW. It has been a very long time since I have finished a book and been desperate to find out what happens in the next book but that’s what happened at the end of BICO. Mrs. Fox does a great job of setting up future books and telling three different love stories at one time and making sure the reader has an investment in all of the characters not just the hero and heroine.

I love Sloan and I especially love the relationship that she has with her best girlfriends Grier and Avery. The girl talk between the three is hilarious and is very realistic of how I talk with my girlfriends which makes it very easy to believe in the plot and the characters. There are a lot of fun characters in Indigo, Alaska and because of them and all of their quirky ways is a major reason that I can’t wait to revisit this series. There is one relationship that involves two of the town folks that I really hope gets written about more, if not gets it’s own book.

Sloan and Walker’s relationship is very cute but a few times I did get annoyed with Walker. He seemed to have a black cloud over his head for a while and he had no intention to get rid of it even when a wonderful girl like Sloan comes into his life. This was the only problem that I had with the entire book and the only reason I didn’t give it an A. The chemistry between all of the couples is very steamy without being too much which is a nice break from a lot of romance books that I’ve read lately.

The Great Bachelor Competition makes this book so fun. The lengths that the town will go to in the name of love and how much everyone seems to want it is very touching. I really enjoyed how Mrs. Fox talked about loneliness and how much it can touch everyone and how everyone needs and wants a chance to find someone to share their life with. The fact that there is a town whose whole mantra is based on love was very touching and wonderful.

I really loved this book. I think it is such a fun, easy read but it also has a lot of layers and depth to it. I loved all of the characters and cannot wait to read the next book in this series and I plan on reading all of Mrs. Fox’s other books because she has made a fan out of me.

What a fun book. I really like romances that take place in Alaska (something about long cold nights and rugged men) and this was one of the best ones I've read. Sloan got a call from her friend Grier and headed up to Alaska for some moral support. Pretty soon she found herself involved in the local bachelor contest while writing an article about it. She was especially interested in Walker, who was interested in her on a purely temporary basis - or so he thought. Sloan was a very independent modern woman who was being driven nuts by her mother. Mom is determined to marry her off and keeps throwing different men her way. When Grier called Sloan was only too happy to head for Alaska. When she gets there she jumps right in to helping Grier deal with a hostile half-sister and seemingly unwelcoming town. She also finds herself attracted to hot bachelor Walker, but sees no sense in getting involved since she won't be in town for long. But they really strike sparks off each other and bait each other into participating in the grandmothers' contest. Sloan discovers that Alaska isn't what she expected and finds her attitudes changing. She falls in love with the town, but still expects to leave when she is done writing her article. She also falls in love with Walker but can't seem to get him to see the possibilities. Walker is a good looking guy who is a confirmed bachelor. He doesn't believe in love and happily-ever-after thanks to his father's philandering. He does care about his grandmother in spite of her matchmaking attempts. He is immediately attracted to Sloan, but knows she'll be leaving to tries to avoid starting anything. But with Alaska's woman shortage there are a lot of men in town who are very interested in her too and he soon finds himself unwillingly jealous. He keeps trying to convince himself that he's just having a fling with her, but soon has to admit his feelings to himself. He very nearly loses her, but has a fantastic "go big or go home" moment at the end. Besides Sloan and Walker, there is a town full of fantastic other characters. Most notable are his two friends and fellow bachelors Mick and Roman, who will star in the next two stories. Sloan's friend Grier has her own troubles that Sloan tries to help her with, and they make friends with local woman Avery. There are some wonderfully funny times, including a townwide snowball fight. Sloan's interviews with townspeople and bachelorettes highlight some of the best things about the town and help open her eyes to the possibilities. There are also some very heartfelt moments when the ladies and men are dealing with their issues. I can't wait to read Grier and Mick's story.

Never married, 33 year old, Sloan McKinley is having mother issues (her's is nagging her to get married and setting her up on horrible dates with eligible, rich, dirtbags). So when best friend Grier Thompson calls her from Alaska and begs for help with an inheritance problem, Sloan drops everything and books a flight to middle of nowhere Alaska. (Oh how I envy her. It's always been my dream to live in Alaska.) Unluckily for her, she lands right in the middle of a bachlorette shindig. The towns richest ladies (grandma's with marriageable grandsons) have been putting on this bachlorette thing for over 15 years in the hopes of marrying off their grandsons, with no success to date. Oh the shindig has been a huge success with 30+ entrants from the lower 48. Of course, Sloan is horrified and wants nothing to do with this event, until she claps eyes on Walker Montgomery, bachelor #1.

This is a very funny and highly romantic tale of love in the frigid Alaskan wilderness. I thoroughly enjoyed the courtship dance between Sloan and Walker. I really liked Sloan and loved seeing the perennial bachelor fall in love. I also liked the supporting characters, Grier and Avery and of course, the men, Mick and Roman. I can't wait to read the remaining books in this trilogy.

I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this contemporary romance from Addison Fox. The premise, which is that a trio of Alaska grandmothers hold a yearly competition where bachelorettes compete for the honor of dating their grandsons, could have been too twee for words. But it was just a hook for what turned out to be a fun, and pitch perfect tale about friendship (both male and female), family, and falling in love. There were several relationships threaded throughout the story and I worried that Fox was going to wrap all of them up in this book, but I should have known better. Freelance writer Sloan and Alaska lawyer Walker get to their HEA pretty quickly, but I get the feeling that we'll see more of them in the subsequent Alaska Nights books. If you like fast, fun, sexy reads you'll enjoy this one.

Fiest in a romance series ...I liked the Alaskan setting and the premise. Had potential, but so many characters! Walker is somewhat passive, but mostly aggressive. As well, too much over thinking by secondary characters and the story about half sisters and a property left to them is not resolved, really. Not going to bother with rest of series. too predictable regarding couples, mostly.

This review was posted at Tsuki’s Book Blog on Monday May 27, 2013.

I've heard some incredibly diverse reviews for this series. Some people claim the heroine is too perfect. Some claim the book is about 150 pages too long. Some just love it. I love it when a book has polarized responses because then I read it, wondering which side of the fence I'll be on.

Sloan McKinley is having a tough time as her mother constantly tries to fix her up with every guy with a pulse. Sloan isn't happy about it but has begun to feel bad about herself since everyone is talking about her inability to catch a man. When her best friend Frier calls, begging for her to come to Alaska, Sloan sees it as a vacation. Once there she meets Walker Montgomery and they begin to dance around each other since Walker doesn't want to settle down. Throw in some meddling grandmothers, a town bachelor tournament (for the ladies to compete), and some deep-seated issues and you have an interesting ride.

I went into this book knowing how much people found Sloan to be too perfect. She was gorgeous. She had money. She had pedigree. She had it all. I actually found Sloan to be unhappy. Sure she had everything going for her but she was still unhappy. She wanted love but couldn't find it. She wanted to be special to someone and wasn't. She wanted breathing room and she was searching. I thought she was a very relatable character. She was the girl you wanted to be but knew underneath she was still unhappy. I found myself rooting for her.

Walker was a bit of a douche. He was Mr. Handsome, Mr. Sex Appeal, and Mr. Emotionally Unavailable. His father had made mistakes in his relationship so Walker had sworn off commitment regardless of how much he wanted it. He pushed people away, afraid to make the same mistakes. He would sleep with Sloan then push her away. He would flirt and then be cruel. It took a good epiphany for him to change and I was curious if it was even realistic for him to change so quickly.

I have issues with books always having close friends for both characters. While I love the concept and the deep friendship, I tend to find it incredibly unrealistic. There are a lot of people out there without friends whom they grew up with. There are plenty of people who deserve great love stories but don't have three friends who would take a bullet for them. Sometimes people do not have that kind of friendship and usually I can't help but categorize these friends as sequel fodder. They rarely just exist as friends.

I enjoyed reading this story and I plan to continue the series. I do agree it was a bit long. The whole story built up to the bachelor auction and games but the actual event was glossed over. On top of that there were whole scenes that were completely unnecessary in the long run. Ms. Fox spent a great deal of time and effort setting up the sequels when it was mostly unnecessary. A quick mention here or there would have been enough.

Overall, I would recommend this book to contemporary romance readers. Also the location was interesting although a place I could never live.

When an inheritance mess leaves her best friend, Grier, stressed out and frantic, Sloan McKinley does what any best friend would do; she hops on a plane to Alaska to help Grier out. As soon as she arrives, Sloan can see that Grier needs all the help she can get to win the townspeople of Indigo over. Luckily for Grier, Sloan knows how to turn on the charm.

But it’s Sloan herself who finds herself enchanted, with the people of Indigo…and sexy lawyer Walker Montgomery. What’s more, Sloan happens to have arrived right before an annual contest hosted by three of the town’s matriarchs; an event where bachelorettes from out of state compete for the town’s eligible bachelors. The grandmothers are determined to get their grandsons married off – and one of those grandsons is Walker. Sloan’s entertained by the idea of the competition, but the longer she stays in Indigo, the more she begins to wonder if a certain bachelor might just be worth fighting for. The question is, does Walker want to be caught?

Love is in the air in the sprightly BABY IT’S COLD OUTSIDE. Author Addison Fox charmed the heck out of me with her first ALASKAN NIGHTS novel.

Any woman who’s faced familial hints/pressure about marriage is sure to identify with Sloan. She’s tired, exasperated and yes, lonely. Sloan’s also got a heart as big as Alaska, so when her best friend calls, needing her support, there’s no question that Sloan will drop everything and fly to Alaska. Sloan’s loyalty, generosity and friendliness made her an incredibly appealing heroine. It would take an equally appealing hero to please this reader, and Ms. Fox definitely delivered with Walker. Walker’s a hero who clearly has a lot of love to give – he just doesn’t quite see it. Watching his parents’ marriage dissolve left its mark on him, and Walker’s cynical about commitment. Ms. Fox did a great job of making Walker sympathetic, which is a blessing, as there are times I – and those that love him – definitely wanted to shake him for not seeing the possibilities for him and Sloan.

While Sloan and Walker are at the center of BABY IT’S COLD OUTSIDE, the heart of the book is the town – and townspeople – of Indigo itself. Readers are treated to multiple points of view, though the narrative never feels crowded. I felt like I was in Indigo, getting to know the people who mean so much to Walker and who come to mean the world to Sloan. The only downside of this is that I finished BABY IT’S COLD OUTSIDE wanting the next ALASKAN NIGHTS novel. Ms. Fox has left plenty of teasers for future books; and I cannot wait to return to the wonderful town of Indigo, Alaska.

I first picked up Baby It's Cold Outside because it is set in Alaska. I'm obsessed with Alaska lately because I believe I need to be an Alaskan Mob Princess. I don't actually want to do any mob-type stuff; I just like the name. I digress. BICO was more than the setting and more than the cheesy quick read that I guessed it would be.

(Blurb from Goodreads.com) After a frantic call, Sloan McKinley travels to the heart of the Alaskan wilderness to be there for her best friend, who's just inherited property in the small town of Indigo. The last thing she expects is to be lured by the town's matriarchs into their annual contest to get their grandsons married off.

But Sloan can't deny the appeal of the rugged local men-Walker Montgomery in particular. Soon she finds herself falling in love with the wild outdoors...and with one of Indigo's most beloved residents. There's just one question that remains: is the town's most confirmed bachelor ready to get caught?

I enjoyed the friendship that Sloan and Grier have and the new friendship they form with Avery, the hotel worker who seems to be so much more. I really enjoyed the tension between Grier and Mick and I'm looking forward to the series installment about Avery. She is smart, nice, and capable, but she lets her past keep her stagnate. I want to know more about her. I also want to know more about Grier and why/how she ended up in Alaska. Why not contest the will from New York?

I didn't love Sloan as the protagonist. I found her to be a bit...unbelievable. I don't know why a girl that freely tells men off in the beginning of the novel would then put up with the antics of Walker. I didn't understand that attraction or why she would continue to return to him for more drama. Without giving away the ending, he does have some redeeming qualities, but it took much too long to see them. I felt like Sloan knew something more about him that I didn't get to see. There was a lot of sexual and emotional tension between Sloan and Walker that wasn't based on any interactions that I saw in the novel. He has baggage, as we all do, but I didn't find myself caring about his baggage. Sloan does have a lot of baggage, but I wanted to know more about hers and I wanted to see her work that out before turning to a man that may or may not be a nice person.

The people living in Indigo are quite fun. I liked the grandmothers and the quirky men of Indigo that sweetly long for love. I enjoyed the brief descriptions of the Alaskan setting and the contest, which I would normally find annoying, didn't take up too much of the plot. It was a background for other more interesting situations. That was a smart decision. Overall, I enjoyed Ms Fox's novel and I will be ready to read the next book in the Alaskan Nights series.

Walker is a lawyer up in Alaska and he's working with Sloan's best friend, Grier, in an inheritance battle with Grier's half-sister. It sounded interesting but I was disappointed.
The book doesn’t just focus on one couple but a lot of other couples. The main couple is Sloan and Walker but the reader doesn’t see a lot of them until a little past the midway point of the book. The author decided to introduce readers to Grier and Mick, Avery and Roman, and Jessica and Jack instead of focusing on Sloan and Walker. There’s romance hinted at with Julia and Dr. Cloud, plus Amanda and Skate. So, the other books of the series are pretty much ready to go with little other romances intertwined. All I kept thinking was ‘Where the heck is Sloan and Walker, the couple in THIS book?’ We even get a sex scene with Grier and Mick before we get one with Sloan and Walker. The author wrote the POV shifts correctly, meaning she started a new chapter or used a scene break to change POV, but I don’t like reading books in minor characters’ POVs when the main couple is ignored.
I couldn’t connect well with any of the characters because the author kept jumping from heroine to heroine, hero to hero, for me to understand and fall in love with any set couple. I also didn’t like how ALL the characters kept secrets from each other. I understand creating suspense for the reader but, by the time some of the secrets were revealed, I just didn’t care anymore or I’d already guessed it.
The book is repetitive. The same characters kept saying the same thing, thinking the same thing and using the same excuse as to why they shouldn’t do something. And I didn’t understand the rules behind the bachelorette competition/bachelor auction. Rules were hinted at but not fully explained even as the festivities happened. Maybe I just missed it as I read.
What I liked about the book was the nosy grandmas and the town’s inhabitants. Indigo, Alaska sounds like a wonderful place to live. Even though it’s freezing, it’s warm with company and love. I thought it was weird, however, that the grandmas who are in their sixties or seventies and a few other older people dropped the F-bomb as if it was no big deal. Just didn’t make sense.
The book was very well written with no typos, which is a breath of fresh air for me since I’ve read a lot of books lately with typos and grammar issues, and I like the author’s style of writing. I just didn’t like that she included so many characters with their own stories in book 1 of the series.

Baby Its Cold Outside by Addison Fox is the first book in her Alaskan Nights contemporary romance series.

Freelance writer Sloan McKinley journeys to Indigo, Alaska, to help her friend Grier Thompson, who is embroiled in a dispute over an inheritance with a half-sister that Grier never knew she had. But Sloan is determined to use her New York charm to get the townspeople on Grier's side. When she gets to Indigo, Sloan also finds out that the town hosts an annual bachelor competition that attracts women from all over the United States, and she decides to write an article about the competition. What Sloan doesn't expect is her intense attraction to Walker Montgomery, Grier's lawyer. For his part, Walker is just as intrigued by Sloan as she is by him, and the two of them start spending time together, even though they both know Sloan will be going home soon ...

I'm always on the lookout for more contemporary romance to read, and I thought this sounded like a fun book. I liked the Alaskan setting and many of the characters. Sloan and Walker both have their issues, especially when it comes to their families, and it was interesting to see them work through their problems.

I also thought it was nice how Sloan stood up for Grier and was determined to do whatever she could to help Grier. I also liked the friendship that formed between Sloan, Grier, and Avery, an Indigo resident. That was one of the highlights of the book for me.

However, I was disappointed that there wasn't more of the bachelor competition in the book. Most of the book is about building up to the competition, but the reader doesn't really get to see Sloan compete in the events. I think showing more of the actual competition would have added another level quirky fun to the story.

Also, I did think that there were too many couples in this book. Besides Sloan and Walker, a lot of time is spent on Grier and Avery and their love lives, as well as some other folks in town. I like reading about secondary characters (especially when they will eventually get their own books), but all the couples made the book feel a little crowded at times. And the subplot with Grier's sister isn't really resolved in this book, although I'm assuming it will be addressed more in Grier's book.

Overall, though, this is a solid contemporary romance.

I'm so glad I picked this book up at the library. It's my first book by Fox and I wasn't disappointed. I was torn between 3 and 4 stars. Again wishing for the half star. This is probably closer to a 3 1/2 star, but is getting the round up since I loved the women in this book. They are strong, witty, and loyal.

Sloane was a great lead. She didn't take any crap and was ready to fight for her friend and once the romance picked up herself. She didn't let anyone walk all over her and I loved that. Every time I thought we were heading to a moment that was going to be reduced to a whiny inner monologue I was pleasantly surprised, because Sloane had a witty comeback that put people in their place and had them realizing how foolish they sounded. I liked Walker and the guys, maybe not as much as the girls surprisingly. But they are still hot manly men and need these strong women to make them realize what they have been missing all their lives.

I am without a doubt looking forward to the next book with Sloane's besty and Mick. The sparks between them were flying in this book and I can just imagine the trouble they are going to get into before they finally work things out.

This is a well written start to the Alaskan trilogy, albeit a trite and somewhat over written/done idea. Unfortunately there is so much going on and with so many couples that the author at times, shortchanges Sloan and Walker. Their story took short shrift and I found that to be annoying as well as distracting from what a trilogy could have been.

I read a lot about Alaska and was thrilled to see a romance centered there, yet the nature of the area barely played into the story.

Sloan and Walker were ultra sweet sometimes to the point of giving me a diabetic coma. And although it seems that there will be some animosity amongst the next 2 sets of couples, the underlying "sweetness" is there.

Personally, the plot was great and funny, but miss Fox just put too many characters having the same problem but not quite...I wasn't so mad at the begining until I understood she actually wanted to give each couple a chance to make their situation understandable, but it felt incomplete, at least for the two other couples left hanging...I know this is book is a part of a set, but I feel like each character like Avery, Grier and Jessica...when she actually gave Jessica her own happy ending I though, she will extend the same courtesy towards Grier and avery, but no...they still seem to be needed for the continuation of the book, I am sorry, but the plot turned quiet predictable by the first half and in doing so I barerily could gather the courage to finish this book.

Good things: The friendship between the three women was great. They were funny, smart and entirely likeable despite the coming from a wealthy families and having a fantasy jobs. Each of the female characters were sexy without being over-sexualized. The setting was decent, very cozy and small town friendly. The inclusion of the grandmothers seemed like it might be too hokey, but they weren't really bad either.
Meh things: Walker is a lawyer. And I'm sure he has personality traits that I just can't seem to remember. He is rugged? I don't know. He was really boring, and therefore the romance between him and Sloane was pretty boring too.
Other things: This was the first romance that I read where there is a sex scene between people who aren't the main characters. Is this an outlier?

This one was cute, the town won me over. I liked how zealous the Grandmothers were about find love for their grandsons. It seemed that the more that Sloan and Grier got to know the town the more that they became invested in it. I loved how the girls seamlessly folded Avery into their group. I liked how the new trio commiserated over the boys that had a hold on them, all the while giving support when it was needed.

I also really liked how Sloan's work article allowed her to get to know more of the townspeople and some of the women that came for the weekend of love search. Allison's, in particular, story got to me. I though her reason for why she came again was great, I only hope that she can find what she is looking for.

Baby, It's Cold Outside Book Review Well, this was just dumb. Not a whole lot happened and I really didn't feel anything for the main characters. And for a romance I feel like that's pretty necessary.

Sloan Mckinley is off to Alaska when her good friend is in need of help after inheriting a large property much to her town's distaste. What Sloan doesn't expect to find is Walker Montgomery. She has to make a decision, head home to NYC or stay in the winter wilderness that is Alaska.

I found Sloan and Walker extremely boring as well as the fact that not a whole lot happened. The lead up was to a bachelor show and tell of sorts which ended up being about five seconds. I expected much more of reading about Alaska and some fun romance there.

A really great book by a new-to-me author Addison Fox.
This book is the beginning of her contemporary series about three friends in a small town in Alaska.
The first book is about a freelance journalist and the town lawyer who come together through their mutual friend/client Grier and sort of find love and happiness around the time of the Bachelor Games. A competition designed by three of the towns Grandmothers in a effort to get their grandsons married off.
The book includes lots of fun characters and hints of the two upcoming books in the series.
I definitely look forward to them.

LOVED this book! Instead of just focusing in the romantic trials and tribulations of the main protagonists, there are also all these little side stories going on. The characters were fun and lively and even some of the minor side romance characters had complete personalities and back stories. Immediately when I finished this I went prowling for the next book (about one of said side-characters, bringing her romantic escapades tot he forefront).

I LOVE the setting, and this made me want to read more cozy romances set in Alaska. I fell in love with the entire town of Indigo, Alaska, and I really hope to see them all again in the next book, "Come Fly With Me."

I was sorely disappointed with the way the book turned out. especially after I had to track it down to the ends of the earth ( Drama is required). The bachelor auction promised in the jacket managed to crop up only in the last few pages and was lacking in excitement and build up. Moreoever, there were way too many couples tryibng to get it on without any real focus on any. The sex was uninspired and just drab. Although, the conference room scene in the beginning promised better possibilities. Fell flat, but the promise was there.

REALLY? He kissed her on the first day?! Not on the first date - the first day when they met. Why, why avoid some tension, suspension, some emotions building, uncertainty...?

And, I don't feel the characters, I just don't. She is "too many things at once" and at the end you can't form opinion on her. I liked the cover, I like the title a lot, I even liked the idea for the competition, the setting of the book but... the story it's not told as I expected.

I got a little tired of the characters after a while - I know romance is formulaic, and that's the comfort of it, but I really want the characters to shine and be interesting and quirky and endearing, and these just kind of felt like stock people without a lot of quirk. I also couldn't get over their ridiculous names - sure, the author is Addison, but does that mean her MC should be "Sloan" with a best friend named, of all things, "Grier"? I think not.
