The Kansas City Star's beloved columnist, C.W. Gusewelle, gathers the best from his collection of Christmas stories written each year for The Star. The stories capture the joy, mystery, and poignancy of the season - guaranteed to satisfy the thousands of Gusewelle fans who have enjoyed his prior, best-selling books such as "Another The Rufus Chronicle" and "Another Cat at the Door." Beautifully illustrated by Eric Craven of The Star's art department.
A nice collection of fiction or fictionalized stories centered on the holiday season. Charming, moving, one a little creepy mix of Christmas ghosts, but all worth a read by anyone who'd call themselves a fan of Gusewelle's columns, non-fiction stories, or his KCPT tv programs. Christmas Walkers, The Exile, and The Least of These being by far the best of this bunch, in my opinion, and there's even a cat story of sorts, Strays, which might give even the loneliness of the single person on Christmas Eve a bit of comfort and joy, or at least a tiny temporary bit of hope.
C.W. "Gus" Gusewelle was a locally beloved KC Star feature columnist, who delighted us KC readers with his sometimes surprising, sometimes humorous and ALWAYS spot on observations about our human existence. This book is a collection of his columns/personal writings, loosely organized around his later in life sadness about the deterioration of rural towns, which is a hugely pressing issue in rural KS (but I think probably also throughout the Midwest). But always his brief stories end on a hopeful note. I loved this collection, as I also have loved his previous 9 books/collections.
