Rate this book
Ayn and Ben’s trip to Morocco was meant to be the journey of a lifetime. But they are unexpectedly drawn into the world of a criminal gang that smuggles cultural artefacts from across North Africa and into Europe.

For her latest book project, Ayn is researching her ancestor Beth, a Cornish woman captured by Barbary pirates three centuries earlier and forced to become a concubine in the sultan’s harem in Meknes. The priceless pendant the Sultan gave to Beth had become a family heirloom and was recently handed down by her mother to Ayn. She insists on wearing it during the trip. Big mistake!

As Ayn and Ben head south through Morocco with their new friends and travel companions, she realises that she and Ben are in danger, from the very people they are travelling with. And then disaster the precious pendant and Beth’s slave journal are stolen. But when the opportunity to get them back arises, Ayn’s course of action exposes them to even greater danger, from Malian brigands into whose hands they fall.
