Carla Cassidy is a talented author. So far I haven’t read a book that she has written that I didn’t enjoy.
In this story several women from Black Rock have disappeared without a trace. Sheriff Tom Grayson, and his brothers can’t come up with any leads, or reasons why anyone would want to hurt the young ladies that has disappeared.
Layla was almost the serial killers next victim. She had gotten off work late, and just sat down in her car, when someone attempted to choke her. She hit him with her high heeled shoe, and he fled when she started honking her car horn for help. Tom Grayson believes the first attack on Layla was random, but puts her in protective custody to protect her. She is his first, and only witness that has survived an attack.
Jacob Grayson, a former FBI agent and the sheriff’s brother has come home to Black
Rock. His last case didn’t end well, and all he wants is privacy, and peace and quiet. His brother tom, drops Layla off at Jacob’s cabin, and ask him to protect Layla. I thought the two were funny together. I really enjoyed the relationship of Jacob and Layla. Jacob wanted peace, and Layla talked nonstop. They did make it work, and they helped each other out with past traumas.

Finally we learn what caused Jacob Grayson to become a hermit on the Grayson family ranch.
With the Grayson's sister, Brittany still missing, the Grayson sheriffs are put of alert when Layla West is almost abducted in her car. With the attempted abduction being similar to the other four missing womens they begin to worry that Layla will be the 5th.
The best place to put her in the the family cabin that is remote enough that she won't be found. The only problem? Their brother, Jacob, lives out their and he hasn't been the same since he returned from Kansas City.
But the minute Layla walks in Jacob's cabin, a spark ignites in him. Bringing feelings he never thought he would ever have again.
Then his past meets his present when he receives a call from The Professional. A killer that he wasn't able to stop in Kansas City. Now he's back and will once again kill 5 women if Jacob can't win the game.
It comes to a point when Layla is captured by well respected man of the community. Jacob and his brother's race against time to save the women.
Just in the time, the women are saved and reunited. Except for Jacob and Layla, who both been hurt in the love department won't admit their feelings. After a week, from some help from his brother Caleb and girlfriend Portia point him in the right direction.
Just weeks later, the Grayson family enjoys Christmas together.

This book is Jacob Grayson's story. Jacob is a FBI agent with a case of severe burnout. He has lost his confidence and has isolated himself from his family and friends. The case that has caused him to retreat into himself was a multiple homicide.
The "unsub" calls himself The Professional.
Jacob has returned home to Black Rock, KS but The Professional has followed him home. The Professional has kidnapped Jacob's sister, Brittany and three other young women. His fifth and final target is the woman that Jacob loves, Layla West. It is up to Jacob to discover the identity of The Professional and to find the kidnap victims before The Professional can follow through with their murders.
I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.

I picked this up wanting a quick and light suspense romance and it was definitely the perfect pick. One thing I actually really like about mills & boon type books is they get straight into the drama and this one was no different. By chapter two you knew what danger the main character was in and we're introduced to the love interest which I really like. That doesn't mean this was an instant love, there was definitely a build up of chemistry in this one. They didn't quite go from enemies to lovers but it was certainly along those lines which made for some funny moments, good chemistry and a climatic coming together moment too. The suspense aspect of the story was really good too, because I had no idea who the bad guy was until the final clue slotted in place and I definitely found myself guessing along the way to try and work it out.
I read this in one night within a few hours so it's definitely a good book to pick up if you want a quick read.

I loved the romance between Layla and Jacob, they felt right together.. she's fun, he's dour.. at in the end, he's the one who lets her know she's worth it! That was sweet.
I also enjoyed the suspense. The Professional was a good villain but why it had to be Layla and no one else was never explained unless I missed that.
Also, on the way to the cabin, wouldn't Jacob have run into the Professional's vehicle when he went back to the ranch? How many roads were there out of that remote cabin? Obviously, Black Rock has as many side roads as Conard County!
No matter. I was relieved it all worked out for the girls and I hope we get a story for Brittany. She deserves a happily-ever-after, too!

Another good read from Ms. Cassidy. She knows how to deliver a suspenseful story for any age. I have read all of Ms. Cassidy's books, YA, Intrigues, Romantic Suspense and Mainstream. She never disappoints.

This book was pretty good. I really like the heroine. Her character was strong and delightful. She never let anything get the best of her. The story line was exciting yet quite typical for this style. The Hero was the stock damaged lawman. The heroine makes the book good.
