Como Reconhecer a Arte Grega

Rate this book

This book really deals with Greek art from about 800BC to 400BC...the "classical Period. So it's not attempting to cover the whole of greek art over its entire history. The book is part of a series of penguin books which are short and to the point. It really just gives us a number of examples of greek architecture, sculpture, painting and ceramics. Yes, it's very brief ..but it does a reasonable job of describing, Doric, Ionic and Corinthian architecture and the way in which greek sculpture emerged from the Kouros form to the free-standing forms of Lysippus. The book doesn't aim for much more than the briefest of overviews but does this reasonably well. I give them 3 stars.

It was good and intresting and described the art but nothing much about why they depicted humans, just to depict gods. Would have liked more about that.
