Seriously though, considering this was published in 2011 you can expect much of the data to be from 13 years ago or earlier so it's woefully out-of-date. This book serves as a reminder of the fascinating stuff we know due to the tenets of science, which is nice to have every once in a while, particularly in a world where science and even intellect itself seems to be continuously less and less valued, but doesn't really serve much purpose beyond that.
This book isn't bad. However, it was really written for the point in time it was published (now a decade ago) and could have used some additional copy editing to make it a more enjoyable read.
not a bad book. I enjoy the general knowledge stuff and the approach of taking a handful of pages to provide a cursory overview on each topic. there was a variety of topics that I've never been comfortable with: physics, quantum mechanics, genetics & there were parts that I realized were "dumbed down" to a lay audience & I still felt in over my head on a lot of topics...
overall though, I enjoyed it and while over my head at times, it provided me with some good thought exercises & a lot to ponder.
what a beautiful, simple introduction to scientific topics!! (・Д・) this book is over a decade old, it’s bound to have some outdated information, though despite that, i’ve never been able to understand basic science so easily than after reading this book. absolutely opened my eyes to a whole new world to explore 🫂
