Silver Cures: A Novel

Rate this book
In the summer of 1957, author Jefferson Martin responded to an advertisement in Field & Stream magazine and leased Hickham Place on the south side of Lake Carson in the western part of New Jersey. The writer thought it would be a great place to find solitude. A visit from Sheriff Maxine Maxwell warned him that Hickham Place was a frequent target for trespassers, presumably searching for silver hidden there by the builder, Archibald Hickham, or his son, chemist Dr. Conrad Hickham. For years, the Hickhams had taken silver from their nearby mine and sold it to the Philadelphia Mint. More recently, the silver was used to cure injuries from burns in WW1 and WW2.

The more Jefferson Martin learned about the Hickhams and their operations, the more he became entangled in the web of deceit associated with their lives. He soon found himself caught up in the wrath of an estranged nephew, William Hickham, who wanted all of the silver for himself.
