Central leaders of the Cuban Revolution present the road forward in the fight for the emancipation of women. The revolutionary victory, said Fidel Castro in 1966, “has meant a double liberation” for women, “who were discriminated against not only as workers but also as women.”
While not as exciting as the book Women in Cuba: The Making of a Revolution within the Revolution, this book has two important articles by Vilma Espín, the founder of the Federation of Cuban Women, and three speeches by Fidel Castro, as well as other documents.
this book was actually really clear and detailed. it timelines cuban women's oppression from batista, revolution of 1959, and through the majority of the 1970's. it's really great too because it doesn't try and make cuba sound completely utopic like "oh everything is perfect in cuba, everyone abides to the rules and cuban men treat women perfectly". this book keeps it real. i would like it to be revised to add more modern things to it.
