Visual Storytelling is quite simple to explain , it's when a story can be told through the use of imagery alone.
Gon is a masterclass on how to pull of visual storytelling.
Through it's amazing art and how Masashi Tanaka can display emotion through art brings the story to life.













Gon depicts that dialogues are meaningless to the action of the characters through the story. The fun, thrilling, over the top depiction of nature. It's definitely a manga that most people can read without being gross out about human relationship, betrayal or something, because there is no human inside it 😂

Black and white with pretty delicate drawings. Wordless storytelling — apparently that is a thing.

Gon is a cute little T-Rex with a permanent pissy expression. In each chapter of this volume Gon mets different animals and has a little head-to-head with them. It‘s cute, but not for me. It has sort of a middle-grade, biology class feel to it.

Godzilla is the largest, butt-kicking dinosaur on the planet, right? So, how about the smallest? After all -- as the cliche goes -- size doesn't matter. Well, I'm certainly not going to nominate Godzilla's little buddy, Godzookey. Or the Flintstones' Dino. Usagi Yojimbo's pet, Spot, might have had a chance, but he got himself killed. No, the title definitely goes to Gon, a foot-tall dinosaur of the butt-kicking order.

Like Godzilla, Gon is a Japanese import. The brainchild of writer/artist Masashi Tanaka, Gon is one of the more unique manga I've seen in a while. The high-level concept: Gon wanders around the world beating up much larger predators. There seem to be no other dinosaurs on the planet. Also, there are no humans and no dialogue. It's just Gon and the very realistically depicted world of nature.

Basically, Gon is a bully -- a very fickle bully. His ways might be mistaken as noble at first, as he seems to hate any predator which preys on smaller or defenseless animals. Indeed, he goes out of his way to humiliate lions and tigers and bears. (Oh, my!) He also picks on dingoes, sharks, and snakes. Despite his size, Gon's indestructibility, intractable tenacity, and monstrous bite make him the runaway winner in any of these predator confrontations. Yet, he'll occasionally befriend predators like wolves or eagles. And he's also as likely to focus his temper on smaller animals. However, if he decides to hassle a chipmunk or a tick which has annoyed him, his fearsome abilities turn into so much slapstick. In the end, I guess he's forced to bully predators because of his inability to tackle anything smaller. And I guess some predators are better than others. And, mostly . . . there doesn't seem to be any rationale behind Gon.

This is a series carried entirely by the art. Gon's antics are tolerable simply because he's so darn cute. The lack of dialogue is not noticed because the narrative flow of the pictures is easy to follow. The depiction of the other animals in Gon's world is breathtakingly realistic. If you put your thumb over Gon in any given panel, you might think you were browsing a comic book nature documentary with very expressive animals. I might buy a book like that. While I'm sure Gon's presence makes this book commercially viable to the rest of the world, I found myself quickly resenting him after the third story. The most beautiful artwork in the world couldn't make Gon any less a jerk.

So my limit for Gon is about one book. Of the four books released, I'd recommend #2, GON AGAIN. It features wolves, penguins, and beavers -- three of my favorite animals. GON #1 has one pretty good story about a noble dingo who won't give in to Gon's bullying and keeps a shred of dignity in face of utter humiliation. I really like the way Tanaka draws. Too bad Gon had to wear his welcome out so quickly.

This is a wordless graphic novel series, with delicate black and white drawings of a dinosaur named Gon and a lot of other animals. Maybe not for really little kids, though as it can get a little violent. But the whole story is told pretty clearly, seems to me, without the words. This first one was really pretty good for me, impressive, though black and white manga for little kids… a little bit of a stretch, maybe? And it's a series, but all of them seem pretty similar to me.

Gambar : 4 bintang...gambarnya detil dan keren (^ ^) Binatang-binatangnya terlihat riil, bukan yang tipe lucu-lucuan.

Cerita : 2.5 bintang...ini rata-rata karena kisahnya berupa kumpulan petualangan si Gon yang pindah-pindah lokasi dengan 'ajaib'.
Kadang lucu, kadang mengharukan, kadang bagus, tapi kadang juga kelakuannya nyebelin (^ ^;)> Nyebelinnya nyebelin ala bocah gitu, tipe yang ga mau kalah dan suka usil~

Yang lebih nyebelin lagi, ini memang cetak ulang sih.., jadi versi western-binding yang dibacanya seharusnya dari kiri ke kanan.
Tapi di vol.2 rata-rata dari kanan ke kiri, dan ada beberapa panel yang sebaliknya. Di vol.3 juga campuran, jadi nebak-nebak: yang ini panel-panelnya dilihat dari kanan dulu apa kiri dulu ya?

Yaah~ anggap aja ini komik dengan bonus tebak gambar (＾▽＾＃) //gemestapiberusahapositip

Me atrae desde un comienzo la idea de los comics y mangas que intentan desarrollar historias sin ningún diálogo, todo imagen, y toda esta serie me ha encantado por ello. Me gusta la premisa implícita (porque no hay texto) de ir descubriendo animales nuevos en cada historia y ver de pasada algunos de sus elementos naturales.



Aunque la historia sea super loca cada tanto no se desembaraza de la crudeza de la naturaleza, y no pocas veces algún animalito muere :(

Creo que las mejores historias siempre son cuando Gon se involucra con las crías de otros animales, como con lobitos o algún que otro pajarito. Me gustó, y además al no haber texto se "lee" en un suspiro.

Saya baru tahu ada seorang mangaka yang menulis manga tanpa ada teks di dalamnya. Gon merupakan guest character yang muncul di Tekken 3, bagi anak generasi 90 pasti sudah tidak asing dengan tokoh dinosaurus kecil ini.

Meskipun tanpa teks, Masashi Tanaka sukses membuat karya ini sangat menarik, dengan panel yang terstruktur rapi, pembaca diajak untuk berimajinasi melihat tingkah laku karakter yang lucu ini.

Estaba más acostumbrado a historias posteriores de Gon un poco más “dulcificadas”. Me ha parecido innecesariamente cruel y me ha molestado a ratos. Pero bueno, también me ha hecho sonreír un par de veces y para los tiempos que corren es mucho. Y me he evadido. Que no he pensado en ningún momento en EL PROCÉS durante la lectura, vaya, Y la paciencia que tiene Tanaka dibujando durante años algo que luego despacharás en diez minutos…

Há muito tempo atrás a minha irmã requisitou um volume de uma biblioteca local. Ela adorou, deu-me a ler e eu adorei. Consegui comprar mais tarde uns volumes através da fantástica livraria BDMania, mas só agora consegui comprar alguns dos primeiros números, porque esta série já tem uns anos e já são raros de encontrar. Consegui este volume na wob.com em segunda mão.

Gon é um pequeno dinossauro que tenta encontrar o seu lugar no mundo passando por vários habitantes da terra na era terciária de formação da Terra.
De forma primitiva, mas também bem humorada, acompanhamos Gon nas suas aventuras de descoberta da melhor refeição e da melhor cama para uma soneca.
Neste volume não há urso, leão, castor ou lince que consiga impedir Gon de uma boa caminha e refeição, mesmo que o tente com todas as suas forças.

Muito giro e imaginativo.
Acompanharmos um pequeno dinossauro já é engraçado, agora vê-lo a combater tudo e todos para uma boa cama e comida é demais. Como agarrar um urso só para fazer dele uma cama ou imitar e concorrer com um castor a fazer uma casa de troncos no lago, o castor com uns raminhos e o Gon com árvores inteiras que ele rebentou pela base com as suas poderosas cabeçadas e os seus poderosos dentes.
Já para não falar de Gon tentar voar juntamente com um grupo de jovens águias.
Apesar de haver uma certa violência, por isso talvez não seja um manga para os mais pequenos, essa violência encaixa no cenário pré-histórico e o humor inteligente que está por todo o lado ajuda a fazer desta leitura algo memorável.
Mais memorável e digno de nota de excelência é que este manga não tem qualquer texto, por isso é universal e é fantástico que consiga contar as pequenas aventuras de Gon apenas pela ilustração.

Debieron transcurrir muchos años de lecturas ajenas al noveno arte para que este año 2023. Quisiera darle una nueva oportunidad al manga.
Hace días sin mayor ocupación que pasar tiempo en el celular -habito que deberé tratar seriamente el próximo año-, me topé con una de las pocas páginas aún existentes, destinadas para este tipo de lectura.

Navegando en la misma, logré dar con una obra que de entrada me llamó mucho la atención -siempre he sido amante de los dinosaurios-. Así que si click en el primer capítulo y sin imaginarlo, me embarqué en todo un viaje cuya experiencia dudo olvidar en mucho tiempo.

Gon nos relata la historia de un dinosaurio que por razones que jamás se nos explican, aún sigue caminando sobre la tierra. A pesar que ya hablamos de un planeta donde su fauna es la que todos actualmente conocemos: alejada totalmente de la era mesozoica. Conocido por haber Sido ese periodo en el que estos inmensos seres dominaban el mundo.
En fin, escapando notablemente de la extinción y habituado a este clima. El dinosaurio Gon que vendría siendo una especie de T-Rex enano, lleva a cabo como un peregrino todo tipo de aventuras.

Cabe aclarar que la obra carece de diálogo alguno. Más que los títulos de cada episodio y la información extra de los animales mostrados durante cada uno de los episodios. El resto del manga solo se sostiene en su extraordinario arte, que como dibujante no puedo más que aplaudir.
Cada página, viñeta y panel tiene una calidad en el dibujo que solo demuestra los años de experiencias de su autor.

La obra además de sus episodios de comedía. Llega a tener otros en dónde la profundidad respecto a temas como la deforestación de bosques o el peligro de la introducción de una especie invasora a un ecosistema diferente. No dejan indiferente al lector.

En general, una obra maestra sin mas. No encuentro mejor calificativo para tan estupendo trabajo.
Extenderse demasiado sería exponer una obra que merece ser leída impoluta, sin saber nada de la misma. Para que así la experiencia sea igual o más satisfactoria que la vivida por su servidor que les escribe.

Gon je nepatřičný. Zakrslý T-Rex nepatřičně žijící mezi savci. Nepatřičně silný parchant bezohledně dominující všem ostatním zvířatům. Z nejzlejší medvěda si udělá polštář, z krále zvířat zase poslušného koníka. Jeho ambicím neunikne ani chudák bobr. Snad jenom orlové jsou s ním za dobře a není to tím, že tenhle T-Rexík neumí moc dobře létat. Je to velmi rychlá, svižná, vtipná a skvěle nakreslená groteska.

Gon is unsuitable. A dwarf T-Rex living unsuitably among mammals. An unsuitably too powerful bastard ruthlessly overpowering all other animals. He turns the biggest bear beast into his pillow. He turns the king of animals into an obedient horse. Not even a poor beaver escapes his ambitions. Perhaps only the eagles are friends with him, and it's not because this small T-Rex flies very badly. It is a very fast, brisk, funny and excellently drawn silent comedy.

I actually really enjoyed this, but I'm partial to dinosaurs so I'm going to be biased and I acknowledge that. I really liked the art in it, but I feel like it would've been easier to follow if it were done in color. It's a very quick read and is told solely through pictures, but there is a story that you follow through each chapter, and for the most part, even without text, it's pretty easy to follow. There were a few illustrations that I thought were kind of confusing, but other than that, I really liked it and thought it wasn't too difficult to follow.

Saya lebih cenderung dengan cerita Gon nanti yang sedikit lebih “manis”. Ini tampaknya tidak perlu kejam dan kadang-kadang ini mengganggu saya hha. Tapi yah, harus diakui itu juga membuat tersenyum beberapa kali hho. I stumbled upon this randomly a few days ago and was hit with an instant wave of nostalgia. Not because I had read Gon before, but because the book had that unmistakable '90s manga feel. The book itself was beautifully illustrated and it was a really interesting collection of stories, not that I felt that Gon himself was particularly sympathetic or likable. Still, I'd be down for more adventures!

It may not be as good as future volumes, Tanaka was maybe still finding his feet here? Ether way, it was a real trip down memory lane reading this volume after so many years, having previously purchased it from a shop in London.

Gon, having previously crossed paths with the little chap in Tekken 3 of all places, is a good lad really if a bit of a tyrant due to his immense strength and intimidating aura. A loveable rascal if you will 😂

I like this manga a lot. The art is absolutely detailed and gorgeous, and I admire how it tells stories without any dialogue. Favorite chapter was 4: Gon Goes Flying. It was cute, and he wasn't being a jerk unlike in the other 3 chapters.

As a series, it's episodic, so there is no big plot that connects any of it, and some stories I enjoy more than others.

Because of the episode storytelling, there isn't any serious, permanent character development for Gon. He's super cute and I love him! But in some stories he's quite the noble creature and in others he's a little bastard. He makes me think of the id (in terms of id, ego, and superego).

There's something about following the small, yet mighty dinosaur as he lives in the modern era wilderness. He befriends creatures of many sizes and different modes of travel. There aren't any words except to introduce the book and the sections, which adds to the story.
