Heaven was born to two of the most vile parents I’ve ever read about. Her mom was addicted to drugs and her sperm donor (I refuse to call him her dad) was SICK. He’s the main reason why I don’t even feel comfortable putting a rating on this.
After suffering unimaginable abuse at the hands of her sperm donor FOR YEARS, Heaven is basically sold to Khalil at 13 years old 😞. Khalil was 30 years old and subjected Heaven to even more abuse.
At 17, Heaven meets Khalil’s boss, G. He introduces her to a better life but honestly, I didn’t see it for him either. While I loved that he wanted to help Heaven - she was still surrounded by people that were living way too fast and too old for her. The only person that I felt had Heaven’s best interest at heart was G’s mom, Madeline.
While I understand that Heaven’s story is the story of some young girls, it was a tough read. The flow of the story was also a bit choppy but it’s an older body of work so I expected that going in.
Heaven Jacy didn’t stand a fair chance from the moment she was born; birthed by a drug-addict mother and a father who plotted on her innocence from birth. She’s sold to Khalil, a man much older than her 13-year-old self. Heaven unfairly suffers physical, sexual, and mental abuse by the people she should have been able to trust the most. One day she meets “G”, king of the street and Khalil’s business partner. Heaven and G have a chance to move on their feelings for each other after Khalil is taken to jail. Young Heaven is then introduced to a new world of luxury and potential love after being seemingly saved by G.
I’m sure my mouth was open at least 75% of this book, I was in shock. My heart was in pieces for Heaven from page 1. Her parents were THE WORST, just vile human beings. I’ve read some horrible mothers but Jhenelle took the cake. There was no protection for Heaven, period. The disgusting things that she had to endure, no one should be put through that. Khalil….ugh, a nasty, never-peaking, malicious piece of work. He wasn’t given the proper consequences of his actions. Shay, ugh, thought she was a real one, but one thing about it; no matter how many times a snake sheds its skin, it will always be a snake. That betrayal hurt. Ricky… I hate a man that runs his mouth. Now G, I am pretty inclined to favor TA’s male characters but, I couldn’t get jiggy with him. I mean he was still a grown man while Heaven was a 17-year-old. Heaven needed all the words and wisdom given to her by Madeline, I’ll leave that there.
I did enjoy Heaven’s story and her ending, self-love is the best love! Takerra Allen’s twist on a fairytale was enjoyable to read. Be warned, Heaven is underage and she was forced to do some terrible things. 🤎
This is my first read by this author and I saw on the cover this is based on true events. With all that was going on in this novel I prayed that not all was true. My heart was breaking reading all what this little girl went through in her young life. No one should go through the amount of abuse the main character went through. So much was going on it seemed like everyone that stepped into her life was trying to break her spirit until she meets G.
An Angel from Heaven is born so why is life stacked against her? Born to a drug addict mother and father, before she even takes her first breath she is a statistic. As her father is a washed up pimp she is doomed from the very beginning. He sells her body and then decides to sample the goods himself. Heaven’s dad hooks her up with”boyfriend” Khalil, whom is much older than she. I couldn’t tell who was worse her dad or her boyfriend. When she meets Khalil’s boss she will stop at nothing to get on his radar. While at this point the book was typical with the money, the cars, and the house and so forth but I have to tell ya, with the life she had I couldn’t help but to cheer for her I enjoyed the ending and it anything but “typical”
I have to say that I was impressed with the ending and with the typical parts and all the ending made it all worthwhile. I like the questions in the back of the book very thought provoking. There really is no need for sequel with that being said I would really like to know how everything turns out for Heaven. With the ending I would gather to say it’s pretty much up to your own imagination to see how she fears in life. I look forward to reading more of the this “new” author.
This book was about forgiveness and redemption. Heaven was dealt a tough hand but, she overcame and prospered. I wished her and G made up but, everything happens for a reason. She came out victorious and on top! She had her moments when I wanted to slap her but, she had to live and learn. Great job Takerra!
The daughter of a pimp and prostitute, to say Heaven Jacy lives a hard knock life would be an understatement. Seeing her mother with other men, yielding to her father’s depravity, and submitting to her possessive and abusive boyfriend’s ways is the norm. But even through the darkest of times, Heaven has remained focused on doing well in school, knowing that eventually going away to college is the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel. Just a few months shy of graduating high school, that light may be coming sooner than later in the form of Gavin Lucas aka G, a hustler and a businessman. Swept up into a new lifestyle, where priorities are now options and the stakes are higher, can Heaven handle her new circumstances? Or has her future been predestined by her past?
Takerra Allen immediately sets the tone of this novel with the opening scene. Like with the main character, there was also light at the end of this sometimes bleak and emotional novel. What could have easily turned into just another hood chick novel, is instead a story of survival when the odds are stacked against one. It’s also a journey of self discovery, self worth, strength and redemption of a young woman with horrific beginnings.
“Heaven’s Hell,” though at times not easy reading because of its subject matter, was hard to put down. My heart went out to the main character, Heaven. Fast paced and full of drama, maybe a little too much drama at times, it was an impressively solid read.
I like cosmetically what Takerra is doing, the chapter titles, the use of the company’s logo to head chapters, etc, but a part of the cosmetic feel that less attention was paid to is the editing. While the editing was not terrible, there were issues and there is a need for a qualified editor. I noticed the author listed herself as one of the editors, an absolute no- no.
“Heaven’s Hell” was gratifying. In Takerra Allen I see promising talent. With just a little fine tuning (editing), the potential is great. I could easily check for her next title.
What can I say this book was OUTSTANDING!!! .Please ,please get this awesome book .This book had me on the edge of my seat and I read it in 1 day. It's about a girl name Heaven thats young and Insecure ,but that doesn't stop her from wanting to complete her goals in school and get out of the HELL she's living (UNTIL) She meets the love of her life ; g; . G is a street thug thats actually a good person at heart ,that falls hard for HEAVEN the minute he see's her and will do anything to get her .But will they make it and be able to be together or will she fight her heart and go the other way! It is a definite page turner without a dull moment I PROMISE!!!!!!!
this was deeply disturbing read for me as I hate child predators. Heaven was born into a raw deal. Her parents were straight out of hell. Her life was the devils chambers filled with little hope.... until Gavin aka G..... but as the rest of her life hell found it way back into Heaven life....until Heaven decided she was No longer going to keep that residence..... this was a deep hard read but good read just the same.... I want a part two.... I need to see a grown Happy Heaven's Joy
Started out really good. The book is literally based on grown men wanting this underaged girl as if nothing is wrong with it. Its hard to believe that all these events took place over a matter of a few months instead of years.
This is my first read by this author... I will say that I did enjoy this book... I did go through a few emotions with this I felt hurt, disgusted, sad, happy, angry, shocked and confused... Like I said a lot of different emotions... I did feel like some things were not really completed... It felt like the end was kind of rushed and as if the author started to remember characters from the beginnings of the book and wanted us to know why they dissapeared... But the information about the father I have questions about... Also I would like to see what has become of Heaven since this book... Heaven lived a rough life... It was like she kept going from one bad situation to another... She was always dependent upon others that meant her no good... Starting from her own parents from the day she was born... Then just when she thought she could finally be normal and happy... She finds out that she really can't trust anyone... and thinks that the life she has been living is how she will be forever... Or maybe it will get better once she goes away to college... But yet again things get in her way and she starts doing to much and doubting people that have kind of been in her corner and trusting yet again the wrong people... Then she starts to let things go to her head and starts to become a different person that I am not even liking... Khalil is an older man that saw a young pretty thing that he wanted... So he made a proposition to her father that helped him to get what he wanted... Although it may have seemed like he was helping Heaven out of her current situation... He may have been putting her in a worse position... He became obsessed and controlling and abusive... And he was afraid of losing her to a younger person... Because come on... This was a grown man with a 17 year old... but he had a lot going on with his business that put him kind of in a bad situation... And little did he know that him having Heaven around this one man that he worked with would be the reall threat to his controlling relationship... G is that man in the streets... He is single and has not found a woman that would even make him think of setting down... But one encounter with this one young beautiful lady that is with someone that he works with kind of peeks his interest... But he does not want to step on toes and shake up things with his business... But temptation is so strong it is hard for him to fight it... His cousin Loc kept trying to help him see things before he makes a move... But the chemistry between G and this young lady were just to strong... Then when he decided to leave it alone... Things are shaken up and he finds himself in her presence trying to save her.... And all logic goes out the window and he is sucked in... Shay is the one friend that has been in Heavens corner trying to help her live a normal life... She is the one person that has never judged her and has been the ear that Heaven has needed to cry on... But then things start to change and Shay is not liking it... But it looks like Shay may not be as good of a friend as she has been putting on... And the friendship has a crack in it... But then Shay's true colors start to come out and the bottom of this relationship just fell all the way out... As for Heaven she has finally hit her breaking point... But it looks like she needed this in order to start fresh and rebuild herself... And really see how strong of a woman she is and that she can be a very independent woman and finally take charge of her own life... Even if it means that she has to close a lot of doors in order to get there in life... G has been trying to make the right decision... But it is like he didn't know what to do when it came to Heaven... Especially once she started to change and listen to the wrong people... Although he tried to shut the door with Heaven... It was like once he saw her again... His heart longed for her and he needed her... But is it to late especially after their last encounter... It was good to see Heaven finally able to overcome all that she had been through... And come out on top... Although she may not have many left in her corner and even less people that she trust at all... She finally was able to make the right decision for herself and her happiness... Even if it caused her a little heartache...
Takerra This is the first time or actually the second novel I read as you as an author you are an exceptional author you write very good novels Yes pertaining to life in the urban community and things that go on within families and outsiders that One of 100 innocent young girls like Heaven. Who’s a Queen.started to experience physical sexual and mentioned use an early age of 13 with older men. She endorsed so much pain and heartbreak in her life this book made me cry.In the urban communities or anywhere in the world .family drama confusion and struggles within themselves. And take He struggles out on innocence which is not fair.family members who were on drugs and Become sexual predators to the young. When a teenager goes to that they look for love in all the places like Heaven ,was forced into the hands an evil person that would treat them worse and betray them in the worst way taking their innocence at a young age .As individuals even adults are wondering how can I get through certain things with a bad childhood experience and move forward from that bag and expression is the life that God has brought into the world. God bring certain people in their lives like this book has boy G in heaven together. G was her Savior sent by God to Rescue heaven. he took her from the broken homes that she has been placed.have been going through abuse neglect to Gavin falling in love with heartbreak with Heaven . He fully wasn’t ready himself to commit to one person like heaven who was a godsend to him because he wasn’t ready to commit. I love these two together but sometimes I have a different plan at a different time.God was present in Heaven’s life all long ,he heard her cry Heaven now stand tall and staying strong and can conquer the world even through all the pain she’s been through.I’m happy for having that she found her independence and loving herself.many women like Heaven have through an experience and different types is abuse is abuse sometimes is just abandonment but we get through life with God in it and he will give us strength to push through leave the past behind and move forward. To All Women we must stand tall and Conquer the world. We are queens and God loves us.
Heaven's Hell is a gripping tale that takes readers on an emotional rollercoaster through the life of Heaven, a young woman who battles the scars of her tumultuous childhood. The narrative dives deep into her struggles, showcasing her journey of healing and self-discovery after years of dependency on others, particularly men. The author masterfully portrays Heaven's resilience in the face of adversity, making her an incredibly relatable character. The impact of her upbringing, marked by the absence of a loving father and the weight of being born for the "wrong reasons," is profoundly heartbreaking. It's clear from the start that Heaven is destined for greatness, as hinted by the nurse who recognized her potential early on. I particularly enjoyed the dynamic between Heaven and G. Their relationship provides a glimmer of hope amidst the darkness as G becomes her anchor during some of her darkest moments. Despite their youth, G's unwavering support showcases the power of love and friendship in overcoming life's challenges. Their authentic connection is beautifully portrayed, making readers root for them even more. The introduction of Madeline adds another layer to the story. Her nurturing love is a much-needed contrast to Heaven's past, providing a sense of maternal warmth that Heaven desperately needed. All the betrayal she had endured was so out of her control. While I would have loved to see a continuation of Heaven's journey beyond the events of this book, the richness of her character development and the powerful themes of strength and resilience make this story unforgettable. I wholeheartedly give Heaven's Hell a 10/10. It's a poignant reminder of many's struggles and the strength it takes to rise above them. Heaven's story is about hope, healing, and ultimately finding oneself amidst chaos.
I truly enjoyed this book and I wish Takerra Allen would have written a second part. The ending between Heaven and Gavin was bittersweet and I think they deserve a happy ending; one where she's fully mature and is in the driver's seat. In the ending of the book you could see her progress and I think with Gavin's mom Madeleine in her life she demonstrated a more stronger persona. Gavin on the other hand seem to regress and I believe it's because he didn't have Heaven by his side. When a man have his true love in his life he is able to progress and enjoy the simple things in life. In the end of the book he appeared to be indecisive and unsure of the choices he made pertaining to Heaven's life style. While writing this review I reflected on Gavin's vision of true happiness; when him and Heaven went away to the exotic island and he saw the family sailing on the boat he wished for that life. I believe that he would have had it if he had handle Heaven differently and brought her into his lifestyle slowly. Please Takerra Allen write a second book to this saga. I am waiting patiently for it. I truly love your writing...keep blessing your fan base with your beautiful words of LOVE. This world needs it. :)
I mean how does one even begin to describe such an emotional book without giving spoilers?! I haven’t the slightest idea, but I’ll do my best…
Takerra Allen I need you to report to the front IMMEDIATELY because ma’am, the way you have me addicted to your work is simply ridiculous. There are no words that could properly describe how impeccable, yet gut wrenching your art is. It literally leaves me speechless; yet here I am with a review. The irony 😂
I mean exactly how is it possible to feel SO many emotions in ONE book? One minute I’m disgusted, the next I’m ready to fight, next I’m happy, then I’m crying, trying to find the words to say just how well written this book was. Honestly, I don’t think I will ever have the words to convey how much of a beautiful disaster this book was. I have never wanted to jump into a fictional world so badly and hug a character as much as I wanted to hug Heaven “Firecracker” Jacy. Babygirl just needed a safe nurturing space, that at one point I felt like she had with Shay until that all went wrong. I ain’t gon lie, there were times where Heaven needed some sense knocked into her, but then again, she was really just a child living a life she wasn’t ready for.
There were countless times when I thought I was gonna pull all my hair out because of everything happening. It was like Heaven just couldn’t catch a break, and when she did, BOOM, back at square one. Those scenes with her momma STILL have me speechless because just how could anyone behave that way. I won’t even mention her daddy because there are no nice words that I have for him- or Khalil for that matter. Well I take that back, Khalil got off WAY to good for my liking. Early in I was asking if we could just get him up outta here because he didn’t deserve another page- worthless piece of... Ooo and that Ricky, I would’ve been content with him going missing as well because “how could you?!” There’s really not much I could say about Shay without spoiling it. However, what I will say is chile, the hurt I felt left my jaw on the floor and my heart in pieces.
There definitely should be a trigger warning for this.
This was a heavy read. I was getting pissed off left from right. Heaven really had a messed up life. She was doomed from birth. Her parents was TRASH. GARBAGE. DOO-DOO. It hurts my heart of what this girl went through. Don’t want to say much without spoiling.
I wasn’t expecting the outcome of this book but I was happy for it.
This was a fast paced read. Emotional and not for the weak. It was good but keep in mind there was topics that will be disturbing and triggering asf.
From the day she came into this world, Heaven was a special child with a blemished childhood. She endured things that no little girl should be subjected to…from being born to a washed up pimp and his bottom ho to being sold to a much older man for payment. One day, she stumbles upon a street hustler that introduced her to a lifestyle that she's not ready for…and behind to lose herself in the process.
This was my first book by the author and I was hooked from page 1. I gladly give it
You know before reading story I try not to know much about it before I start. I did however see that some wished it was a part II before hand but I believe it ended just as it should have. A new beginning. Some stories are better left at such. As always when I stepped into TA Land I was thoroughly pleased with the entire journey. Heaven’s story is one you will never forget.
Heavens Hell is not a favorite of mine. I understand that this is someone’s story. BUT this is definitely from the time in black literature where the FMC gets dog piled . I mean it’s betrayal, chaos, and suffering. And even the life she’s dreaming of doesn’t seem like it’s any better than the one she’s living. She’s still surrounded around people who are living the fast life . It all just gives me flash back to the Coldest Winter ever where the FMC is pretty much tortured the WHOLE TIME !
The book was SO MUCH BETTER than the movie! The movie wasn’t bad, but it’s NOT touching the book at all! I got confused between Angie and Sonia, but figured out those were the chicks G was messing with. I’m kind of mad Loc & Shay didn’t have a real shot. G saved Heaven, but he did do her wrong at times....it’s just a lot and it’s definitely worth the read!
Another wonderful read. I felt Heaven's pain in every scene. She came in the world with a hard life. She faced so many obstacles and abusive people. I thought G was her saving grace, but he only served one purpose. heaven learned self love in the best love.
This book was so good . You never know what is going on in someone’s life but to see the main character use all the negative things that happen to her as motivation to be successful.
This book is for the fighters, the dreamers and the believers because only the strong survive. Heaven finally realized she was enough. Our journey in life is to learn how to love ourselves first. Heaven figured it out.
Absolutely enjoyed this read. I loved how a young woman of color was able to over come her childhood, completely and graduate Hugh school, and still become successful.
