OMG. This book, which is the sequel to Planetfall, is the prequel to Futurefall, which was never published.

Augh.

I mean it's not like I was loving this book. Maybe because it's 2021 and this book was published in 1989, or maybe because I'm in my 50s, or maybe this is just an example of the sexism in sci fi writing, I don't know, but this was a mix of trying too hard to be quirky clever humorous and women as objects/women not represented well that just fell flat for me. So many lines are pulled from all kinds of pop culture.
I read this one out loud to my husband:

"Speak for yourself you... you"
Don't call me a you-you... (270)

My hubby replies that that was a line from M*A*S*H.

I read Planetfall in the 80s and enjoyed it, kind of a lesser Hitchhiker's Guide. I recently re-read Planetfall and it was ok. Now reading Stationfall for the first time as it is the sequel. I'm getting to the last 10 pages and nothing has been resolved or even on the way to a conclusion and then...

Stationfall ends with "to be continued in FUTUREFALL"

WHICH WAS NEVER PUBLISHED.

Augh! Does Homer B. Hunter get back to Our Lady's Hornblower? Does he reunite with Reina? Where is Reina anyway? And do Coryban and Blather also get back to Our Lady's Hornblower? And who sent Homer and Oliver into space in the escape pod in the first place? He wasn't even in Stationfall. And where is Floyd and are they going to be able to rescue him? Will the diplomatic conference be a success or will the tree ambassador ruin the event with his new love interest? And what's the deal with the new love interest? And was the soprano saxophone ever repaired? Do they even need it anymore? So many unanswered questions that have been unanswered for 30 years and will go unanswered and I would have been o.k. if I never knew they were even questions. So thanks Arthur Bryon Cover and/or Avon Books.

AUGH.
