DNF after 60%.
I tried to give it a chance, I really did. But the book is marketed as a thriller so imagine my disappointment when I realised it's just bland action and a ridiculous love story.

I highly recommend this book. The action takes place in Australia in the early twentieth century. The characters are all in some manner connected to the pearl mining business. The main characters are star crossed lovers who are separated for so many years by circumstances. Read the book and get absorbed by the author's excellent writing skills. He writes in a fashion that causes the reader to become the characters. The reader can move with each character's actions, thoughts and senses. Not many authors that I have read can do that as well as this author. The characters may say what is expected but think that which is real.

Thank you, Mr. Falconer, for a GOOD READ.

Almost a five!

I'm obviously drawn to Falconer's books as this is probably the sixth one I've read by him. He definitely knows how to weave a story. This book I loved! As always, I have to gripe about the typos and grammatical errors, but at this point I'm beyond caring. The story us very good. The people are real, imperfect beings struggling to have what they each want out if life. The setting here is Australia's pearl diving industry in early 1900's pre-WWI. I was engrossed with reading about this dangerous occupation and loved the historical backdrop. Cultures clash as do the societal layers with everyone trying to get and stay on top. With romance underlying the plot, it makes for a very good read that I'd highly recommend to historical fiction buffs.

📌 Tajanstvena priča o beskompromisnoj, bezpotrebnoj ambiciji, nedosanjanim snovima i jednom sudbinskom susretu.

📌 Zapadna Australija, Brum, 1913. godina.

⚠ Znate li kako nastaju biseri?

Razbunarea si mandria lui ii va aduce multa suferinta si lui si lui Kate Flynn.

An enjoyable read, about pearling in Broome, in the early 1900’s. Cameron McKenzie has come half way around the world to find the pearl that will make his fortune. He has left his home in Scotland to come to Broome to make a new life for himself. He falls in love with the tempestuous Kate Flynn, but they are not destined to be together.

My situation is thus: I had cataract surgery on Monday.Today is Thursday. I can see half the words in my good eye. I have a patch with holes in it covering the decataracted eye. Everyone, especially my enemies, should have to read this book under the same circumstances. When I post this book on Facebook, META and AI and I will have words. Mean words.
By Goodreads authority, the book has two different covers and one new name. I show having read both Pearls once before. This copy was riddled with errors, or maybe my right eye is just showing out or is misdirecting my vision.
I do love Mr. Falconer's subject and style, but I think I missed some important words that would have given a twist at the book's close.
Of late, Mr. Falconer has joined the Vulgar Language Club. He should resign. However, in the present book, he does not use lewd filler, thank you very much, thereby passing the elevator test. I recommend the book, but do not get cataract surgery before reading.

Thank you, dear author, for a good read.

Loved the history and research that the author entwined into this story.
Perhaps one needs to live in Australia to appreciate the intricacies faced in the pearling industry and the remoteness of Broome in Western Australia. Set in the roaring days of pearling in the early 1900's, where murder, scandal and the romance of finding the flawless Pearl, where dreams, ambition can collide at ten fathoms deep. It is a story of obsession, greed and corruption. Fiction based on Fact, I thoroughly enjoyed this book when I read it. There is a follow up book called " Stairway to the Moon "

One bad decision after another and then he is dead ... it's not that I was expecting a happy ending, but I couldn't relate to any character in this book so I tend to criticize their poor choices and judgment.

I really liked this book, but I didn't love it...
Some people might love this book but I think that although it's greatly written, I just wish it had more love and action.

The adventure story probably warrants three stars, but the location brings it up to four.

Too too saga-ish for me, with characters who take forever to move forward. And sometimes when they do they cause great anguish to others. They reached for the moon but fell way short..
