This will have to be one that I have to see staged. I did enjoy all of the individual scenes but I think seeing it will help me figure out the overall impact. At this moment, it feels like a whimsical, character study with the stakes for the lead character Margery dulled by the twee religious discussions. She consistently wants someone to hear her confession but no one takes her up on it.

Maybe we should hear the confession?

“I know you are only a woman, but try to think a little harder.”

well even through i read this about two years ago i still do not understand the ending of this show lol. but it’s soo fucking funny and really interesting it gives me the same vibes as silence by moira buffini and also it still shocks me that HEIDI SCHRECK wrote this show i love that woman. anyways margery is a girlboss who does nothing but gaslight everyone and the patriarchy sucks ass.

I had to read this for Theatre class and I have never really enjoyed required plays before but I found myself actually enjoying this one.

Loosely based on the 15th century mystic, Margary Kempe, this historical play tries to cram in a modern sensibility, making it neither fish, nor fowl.
