Manabe (Arisa's classmate): -I consider him to be a suspect because he comes out of no where and hits Tsubasa with a wooden poll. However, it seems as if he also hates the KING... maybe this is an act to fool Tsubasa. -Tsubasa's friend sneaks into Manabe's home to find out tons of pictures of class 2B pinned to his wall. On his wall, it also contains the card that states that Arisa was a traitor. Manabe admits to Tsubasa that was all of his doing.
Arisa: -Manabe confronts Tsubasa and declares that Arisa is the person who is KING and is behind all the evil acts. According to Manabe's flashback's, Arisa was the one who was in charge of bullying other people during KING time.
Arisa's best friend (Mariko): -She is always saying suspicious things like how people don't know that Arisa'a secret really is. She's always making dark and gloomy faces... something is up with her. -She STOLE Arisa from the hospital and moved her somewhere else... what's going on?! -She leaves behind a talking clown that threatens Tsubasa and warns her to back out of snooping around.
My final conclusion as to who the king is Mariko (Arisa's best friend). I think that it is her because she is always making strange faces and saying strange things. Furthermore, she was the one who stole Arisa's body from the hospital and let a threatening note for Tsubasa. However, the note does not scare Tsubasa and she returns to Arisa's school. When she returns, she finds a note in her shoe cubby from the KING to meet at the swimming pool. When Tsubasa arrives, a mysterious and strange shape appears behind Tsubasa and pushes her into the pool. As a result, Manabe saves Tsubasa and finds out that she is not really Arisa.
Arisa is a multiple layered story with mystery elements. I highly recommend starting at the beginning and reading in order.
** This review contains no spoilers for Arisa 2 but will have them for volume 1. **
Tsubasa, the delinquent "Demon Princess" of her high school, is investigating her seemingly perfect twin sister's secrets after Arisa's suicide attempt and has started to learn about the mysterious King controlling the class. She may have a lead on the King's identity, but how long can she pretend to be Arisa without arousing suspicion?
Volume 2 is a strong continuation of the intriguing problems set before Tsubasa in volume 1. The King is an active, and dangerous, opponent and the high stakes game of move and counter move is nicely executed. One of the best things about this story is the supporting cast. They have their own motivations, secrets, etc and watching Tsubasa interact with them and try to figure out who to trust is enthralling. Class outcast Akira and Arisa's best friend Mariko (as well as Tsubasa herself) are particularly intriguing. The author is very fond of twists and turns, but they are well done and logical.
Volume 2 is a worthy follow up on volume 1 that raises the stakes and begins to show signs that this story has the depth to go for quite a while. Should be a great ride.
Series Rating: 3.5Stars (first few volumes are 4 Stars)
I read this series in one sitting, which is quite telling in itself. However I will say now that the story does lag a bit after a few volumes and loses something of the great set up it had at the beginning. That said, the author Natsumi Ando is good at ending chapters/volumes with cliff-hangers. So you get to the end of one book and immediately want to pick up the next one. (Case in point – me.)
The art is excellent and was part of the reason I decided to pick this series up. As much as story is important if you don’t like that images it’s a struggle to continue but for this genre (shojo) Natsumi Ando style fits beautifully.
Tsubasa is likable and determined to find out what happened to her sister. As reader it was easy to be on her side. This series requires suspension of disbelief to some extent but you’ll enjoy Arisa more for it.
At first I thought that this was a manga about suicidal teens and heavy stuff like that, but by the second volume, I can tell that its not. There is this dude named King that the kids worship. Every Friday, fourth period, they have a cult-like meeting to get King to grant a wish. No one knows who King was,and they all seem to know some things about Arisa's attempt that Tsubasa doesn't. Possible suspects: Arisa herself Manabe Possible reasons for Arisa's attempt: A wish was made to King to goet rid of her and she was coaxed/tricked out of the windowsill She was king and the guilt of everything was too much. She was about to be exposed as a traitor.
Wow, read this on my way to work and couldn't believe how much ground was covered. I did not expect this volume to be so gripping, and I'm curious about where the story can go from here.
Book 2 of Arisa took the awesome plot of the first book and really made it more interesting!! I really like the mystery element of 'Who Is The King?' which is something I don't read often enough. Definitely needing to see what happens next, and PS I freaking LOVE Manabe!
Ooh hoo~~ there were some juicy twists and turns!! I'm glad it wasn't immediately revealed to be Manabe, obviously he could still be apart of King, and just pretending to be against it, but we still don't have a definitive answer one way or the other, which is the much better choice imo.
I have to say though, I found Tsubasa, the twin of Arisa, to be kind of frustrating this time around. It feels like she doesn't even care to keep her identity a secret, which makes no sense. Like girl, at least try to behave like your sister, and like you care about King Time. Otherwise you're just unnecessarily putting a target on your back!
Despite that, I don't dislike her. She has lots of fire, and she obviously cares about others. She just needs to be a bit more calculated with her choices.
In this junior high world of obsessions and desire for wishes the King continues to reign as Tsubasa continues to infiltrate and discover the truth behind whoever is behind the cult like mentality of her sister's class. The truth (at least through the eyes of one person) is at least partially exposed as it turns out the King has already discovered Tsubasa and her intent to interfere. Will she be able to protect her sister and is the boy named Manami really an ally in her fight for justice? Only time will tell what the King is truly capable of or who they are now in this psychological school drama that makes us question pretty much everyone (though it is pretty obvious at least one person shows up that might be the King or works for them.)

A really good second volume! The art is still very good, detailed, unique but there are a few scenes where it’s hard to make out, but they are rare. The pacing is slightly better as well. I feel like we spend to much time at the kings game and not much outside of it. The main characters are still nothing special though. We do get a bit more story for the side characters though, I like that they’re important: I like how the story is playing out, there’s a good amount of creepy moments to add to the mysterious and eerie atmosphere. The mystery is never easy to figure out I feel, when you think you figured it out it pulls a twist and you’re back to square one.
3.5 stars but rounded up this time. I like where this manga is going. Arisa's best friend Mariko is creepy, I want to know what is going on in that girls mind. There is definitely more to her. The stolen body scene was intriguing. Tsubasa hasn't done a great job fooling everyone in her identity swap. The truth has come out to The King and Manabe. Speaking of the King, there's a lot of darkness there, what is the end game with these wishes? The rules have changed, a week of wishes cancelled and now less people can participate. Again what are the plans. Art is good. On to the next!
I am still enjoying this so far. I like the juxtaposition between Meriko when Tsubasa's back is turned. It kinda makes me laugh when I see it. But this volume was more fun than the last. I love the art and am interested enough in the story, I give it 4 stars because I still feel like there isn't much depth or purpose behind some of the things that are happening. I am hoping a good reason for all of this pops up eventually. I would recommend the manga though!
It took me maybe twenty minutes to read this book. It moved fast, but was really good! Now I have to get the rest of the series and soon! I need to know who the King is!!!!
So happy I can read it on my kindle it’s hard to find the manga anywhere but I do recommend if you guys want a quick and fun read i definitely loved it.
Tsubasa thinks Akira is the King, but she turns out to be wrong:
Dang this series went downhill fast. No real suspense because
And one thing that took me out of the story: the desktop folder with no name. I'm not sure that's even possible. It would have made more sense for it to have some kind of generic name, rather than no name at all.
So the second book really got the ball rolling! Miscommunication, deception, attempted murder, rescues, true identities revealed! Sigh....I just love a series that packs itself full of action and mystery. The reader now knows who The King is, though Tsubasa has yet to figure it out. Reminds me of Sherlock Holmes for some reason....
Anyhow, I won't say anymore because it'd totally become a spoiler thing.
In conclusion
I am now debating getting this for my own library, so long as it continues the way it appears to be going. I guess that says something about how much better the second book was to the first!
I like this manga for the mystery. The story is basically that there is a mysterious person acting as "the King" who is granting wishes for a bunch of school kids. The wishes are turning dark and people are getting hurt. One of the hurt people is Arisa, and her twin sister is trying to find the "King" and stop them. The story is developing well, and I like the slow reveal going on with the characters. So far, it has been just fast enough to keep me interested. I look forward to see where the story is going, and I hope it continues developing at a good pace.
