I don't say this very often, but this is one of those occasions where I liked the second book in the series even more than the first. (And I really enjoyed TOUCHED) Jackson has gone out of her way not to rush the development of the characters and the storyline as she dolled out the first two books in the Sense Thieves trilogy, but she also hasn't wasted my time or dangled me over any unnecessary cliffs to wait for the next installment. You get both satisfaction and anticipation.

By the end of TOUCHED, I'd become attached to not only Remy and Asher, but also to her family. Reading PUSHED, I was very happy to see Jackson hadn't sacrificed all the things I love about her new family just to create drama. By adding a new twist, there was lots of brand new action and nail-biting involved and it was interesting and fresh--nicely weaving in the world building for healers and protectors.

Remy continues to be a well created mix of confidence and insecurity. She's not too strong and not too weak--a really great balance in my opinion. She's refreshingly honest for a heroine and that comes across the clearest in her devotion to her boyfriend Asher. They are a great couple.

BUT...it's time to get to the part I LOVED about PUSHED...Gabe. I ended TOUCHED with negative/ambivalent feelings about Asher's older brother, Gabe, but I LOVED him in this story. I want more Gabe and I want it now. I also want to write more and more sentences about him, but if I do I will spoil all your reading fun and I'm determined not to do that. So...*zips lips*

Remy may have gotten rid of Dean, but now it’s time to meet her maternal Grandfather, and see what he has to teach her.

This was another great instalment in this series, and I really enjoyed it!

Remy continued to be pretty selfless in this book, and I really felt sorry for her and everything she had to go through. She really did endure more than anyone should ever have to endure, and was forced to hurt people she loved just to keep them safe.

The storyline in this was pretty good, and I didn’t want to put the book down! There were loads of surprises and twists and turns, and I really didn’t see most of this stuff coming! It’s really hard to say what went on without dropping spoilers, but boy were there a lot of shocks in this story!
There was some romance, and again – shocks in store there.
The ending – big cliff-hanger, but a really great ending that literally had me screaming!
Overall; great sequel!
8 out of 10.

I really loved book 1. Super enjoyed it. This one.... hmmm.... while I couldn't put it down. I don't think I like the turn it's taking because I really don't like love triangles. Sigh.

I LOVED the first book in this series, Touched. Pushed was a disappointment. In a recording from her mother, Remy learns how to contact her grandfather. His wife was a healer and he may have answers to the many questions that plague Remy. How is she different? Why is she different? Can she control it? Remy leaves home to seek answers and meet her grandfather. She is welcomed with opened arms and meets the healer community. However, people are keeping secrets and there are few people that Remy can trust.

Pushed wasn't a poorly written book. Something always seems to be happening at every turn and I still love the characters. Well, mostly. Hang in there, I might rant for a bit here. I love Asher and Remy together. They are so cute! Gah! Now part way through the book Asher runs into some trouble and Remy is left to fend for herself. Asher has a brother, Gabe, who "hates" Remy. When Asher is in trouble, Gabe travels down to see Remy and get revenge for his brother. Guess. What. Happens. LOVE TRIANGLE!?!? Ugh.

Why did he have to fall in love with her? It was completely unnecessary. When they were growing closer, like brother and sister, I thought it was cute and I started to like Gabe more. But I was wrong. SOOOO WRONG. It pissed me off and now the third book in this series says that "old bonds fray" and "Remy finds herself growing closer to Asher's brother Gabe." What on Earth? I did not want a love triangle with this series and I'm not happy about it. Sometimes love triangles are ok, but not here. >_>

"It's not what you think," I said.
Under his breath, Gabe added, "Speak for yourself, Remy." Louder, he told Asher, "It's exactly what you think. At least for me."

Guess what else this book has? A cliffhanger. Ha. Ha. Ha. I'm not amused. Remy never seems to catch a break in Pushed. It does create for a lot of action and page turning, but it just makes me feel bad for Remy. It almost seemed like to avoid the "slow second book" the author tried to fit too much in and it was a bit crazy. That girl has been through so much. Just when it seems that Remy can finally relax, the author snatches it away. It just kinda bugged me, especially with the way the cliffhanger hurt Remy. I really like Remy, she's a great main character. I was also bummed that we didn't get to see much of her dad, step mom, and step sister. They're such a cute family. Love them!

I didn't really see the plot twists coming and I'm still not sure they made sense within the context of the story. Certain characters made decisions that seemed very out of character. The next book, Ignited, comes out in May and I'm just not excited to read it like I was for this book. I've been going back and forth on whether or not I should recommend this series and I'm still not sure. Maybe after I read the final book, if that happens, I'll let you know.

Ugh! How frustrating! I really liked book 1 so I'm disappointed that book 2 flopped. I liked everything up until Asher "died". Then the book took a nosedive for me when Remy bonded with Gabe. I actually like Gabe. He has a no nonsense kind of attitude that I really enjoy BUT I'm not into love triangles. I don't like it when characters fall in love with other characters that they have no business falling in love with. When they bonded, it just tainted the original bond she had with Asher. Even though they weren't romantically involved, it just felt weird to read about. I didn't find Remy and Asher's connection unique anymore. With that said, I thought Gabe's nickname for Remy was adorable.
Wow, I was so upset that the healers would be so corrupt like that. That grandfather is psycho. The ending was so rushed though. One minute, she stabs herself and then the next Ben is kidnapped. I'm not sure if I'll read book 3. This book left me a bit deflated.

This book is an unnecessary sequel to a book that shouldn’t have been written in the first place. Touched was a waste of Jackson’s considerable talent - her debut novel, If I Lie, was a compelling contemporary novel, and one of the best debuts I’ve ever read. So it’s baffling to be that Jackson chose to follow up that very good contemporary novel with a much less inspired fantasy trilogy. I don’t hate or even dislike Touched, but it’s hard to read it without the underlying sense that Jackson could be doing so much better. Touched also ends with a rather resolute ending. Sure, perhaps the romantic subplots could’ve been taken further, but the main plot came to a satisfying conclusion, and there was no particular reason to add to it. All that considered, this book is considerably better than I expected it to be. That’s not to say that it’s good, but I was surprised by how much effort was put into it. As it turns out, Jackson continued the story of Touched because she did have more ideas for where the plot could go, and I was surprised how much I was engaged at the story she tells here. I still think this is worse than Touched, simply because the character interactions don’t work as well here. But this is a good bit better than I expected, and while I definitely wouldn’t recommend this to anyone who disliked Touched, if you’re a fan of this series, you definitely dodged a bullet.

I’m not going to bother summarizing the plot, because knowing what this book is about probably won’t affect whether most people read this book, and it’s honestly very difficult to make it sound interesting without spoiling it. But it’s worth noting that I was genuinely surprised by the direction that Jackson decided to take the series in. She delves deeper into the worldbuilding, and while it’s still not exactly the most interesting urban fantasy setting I’ve ever read, things do get a lot more engaging than they were in the first book. In the plot itself, there are some predictable beats, but there are also some very unexpected twists and turns. There’s a significant amount of tension as we build up to the climax, moreso than in Touched. There are some flaws - Jackson makes the big mistake of writing two scenes that could serve as climaxes - but for the most part, the story here is more engaging than it was in Touched.

That said, if I had to put my finger on why Touched is a better novel, it’s definitely the characterization. Remy’s character arc doesn’t progress very much throughout this book, and her voice is bland enough that I started to get bored of her. She also has a depressing lack of chemistry with Asher. I had a lot of trouble getting invested in their relationship, which is a bit of a problem in a paranormal romance book. Their loving moments always felt forced and dispassionate to me. The side characters tended to be much better developed, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the vacuum in the center of the story.

And that’s about all I have to say about this book. If I had to outline the biggest problem with this series as a whole, it’s a general lack of noteworthy content for me to comment on. Both this book and Touched are just generally forgettable and inoffensive. This is probably the shortest review I’ve ever written for this blog, because there are only so many ways to describe mediocrity. I can definitely picture If I Lie having a cult following ten years from now - I don’t see that happening with this series. I definitely hope that, once this trilogy is over, Jackson goes back to what she’s good at. If you liked Touched, this book is around the same quality level - for an unnecessary sequel like this one, it’s about the best you could’ve hoped for. But it’s not my cup of tea.

Review originally posted on my blog: A Book Obsession..

I'm honestly at a loss where to begin with this review. The entire book is one giant spoiler in my opinion from the point where she travels to the Healer community on. I mean just the fact that Asher followed her there, should be warning enough, but let me just say it, this book is utterly heart breaking. And while I saw one of the twists coming, there were so many more that completely derailed me. These types of books are so incredibly hard for me to review as there are so many things I would love to talk about, one HUGE thing in my opinion that irrevocably changed a dynamic between the characters. Actually, this one twist is so huge at least to me that I'm going to break one of my rules and have a spoiler section below.

While the world behind this series is really interesting, especially now that more of the secrets behind the Healers have been revealed, it is honestly the characters that steal the show. Remy is so strong and has grown so much. Sure, she's still pretty niave, and quick to jump into the fray without thinking things through first, but honestly that's one of the things I love about her. While the others would prefer her to hold herself back, when someone is injured, she can't help but step up to help them, even though it costs her greatly. When I think back to everything she has endured in her life, it is utterly amazing to me that she hasn't snapped. Luckily now she has the support of her friends and family. From the fiercely protective Asher, to her sister, dad and step-mother, and even Asher's surly siblings, she has backup and the security she never had before. Sure things will never be easy for her because of what she is, but at least she's not alone anymore.

I enjoyed Touched even though it left me with a few frustrations, but PUSHED really took everything a step further, and really cemented my love for this series. In fact, the final installment is easily on my most anticipated list for next year, that's how excited I am for it. So, if you enjoyed Touched, then you will not want to miss this fantastic book as it is one heck of a roller coaster ride from start to finish!

Pushed was such a good sequel!
At first, i didn't think it was as good as the first, but as the story progressed, my opinion totally changed!

Remy was a great character again... but there was a few times where she was slow to catch on.
I loved Ben, Laura and Lucy again as well. They wasn't in it for a huge chunk of the book, and i really missed them.

The ending had me crying.
Seriously..

After high school graduation, Remy decided she’d go on a trip to look for some answers about her heritage. Not certain if she’d be safe, Asher followed her but soon got into trouble when he was being caught and tortured by some Protectors. Could Remy find a way to bargain with the Protectors without getting herself killed?

I adored Remy. She had a big heart and she wasn’t the type to back down without a fight! I honestly thought she and Asher would have some sweet, intimate moments while they were on the trip and when a sweet rendezvous turned deadly, my heart sank and I wondered why life was so unfair to this couple. Remy totally deserved a break from pain and torture (in my opinion) but treacherous things just kept happening! It’s heart-wrenching to see her being hurt and betrayed time after time, and when I saw her hung onto hope and chose to never give up on those whom she considered her family, I cried and questioned why people could be so heartless, vilifying and manipulative. It made me wonder what might have happened to these people in the past to make them feel it’s okay to abuse Remy’s trust with their ulterior motive, craftiness and double-dealing.

It’s unnerving to find callousness and spitefulness among those who lived in the Healers’ community. And it saddened me that people would keep ignoring unfairness and corruption when they could probably come up with better alternatives if they chose to take a stand against injustice. It also irked me to see how lies and half-truths were being circulated among members in the Healer’s community. Maybe the Protectors were cruel but from what I learned in this installment, it seemed to me that those in power in the Healers’ community were just as bad (if not worse).

What warmed my heart was the friendship developed between Erin and Remy in this story. Erin was a teenage healer but unlike others in the community, she did what she could to help and warn Remy. I liked Erin and I prayed that she would be safe and not be harmed by those sick and immoral people in the community.

I thought book one was exhilarating but everything in this installment seemed to take a notch up and move things forward at an even faster pace. While I was reading, I felt as though I were on a wild roller-coaster ride of action, danger and emotions! And the ending? It took such a rowdy turn that I sat, eyes wide, blinking with disbelief when there were no more pages left for me to turn in the book!

This installment was so incredibly good that I couldn’t believe I had waited three month after it’s published to read it.

And I can’t wait to get my hands on book three when it comes out in May 2014.

Pushed is a fantastic sequel to Touched. I enjoyed the first book in the series, but I wasn't absolutely in love with it. However, this time around, Jackson won me over. I fell in love with the setting, the characters, and the plot. I can't wait to see what Jackson has in store for her characters next. They grew so much in this installment, and the plot was fast paced and intense. This is turning out to be one of my favorite YA series, and I'm glad that Kensington gave me the opportunity to try it out.

Remy grew so much in this installment. She was kind of weak, in my opinion, in the first book. She was still super desperate to be loved, a lot like her mother, but she also recognized her faults and worked to fix them. She became a very strong force to be reckoned with by the end of this novel. Asher also grew, and I enjoyed his relationship with Remy. The character I loved reading about the most, however, was Gabe. We really got to know him better this time around, and I found that I really like him a lot! I can't wait to see more of him in the next book. Jackson also introduced some new characters that surprised me. Remy's grandfather was a big part of this novel, and it took me awhile to figure out how I felt about him. I really liked Erin and hope we get to see her again in the next book. Alcais has the potential to become a really, really bad enemy.

The plot itself had so many twists and turns that I felt like I was on a rollercoaster. It was action packed and full of suspense. I couldn't put this book down. Poor Remy couldn't catch a break. Unlike many second books, Pushed was no filler story. It stood on its own with a perfectly paced and tightly plotted narrative. There's a bit of a love triangle, which I didn't like - this is why the book got an A- instead of A+. It seemed a bit natural, but it didn't have to happen. There were ways around it. However, once I see what Jackson has in store for us next, I may agree with it more. The ending was a cliffhanger, which I hate, but it left me dying to read the next installment.

Overall, I'd recommend this book and series to anyone who is looking for a different kind of YA paranormal read. It's extremely entertaining and has some depth and darkness to it. Give this series a chance. You won't be sorry. For those who already read and enjoyed the first book, Pushed will not disappoint.

Update 1/9/14
This book was superb. It is the second installment in the Touched series by Corrine Jackson. This book added elements that I thought might have been forgotten such as the fact that the main antagonist from the first book is dead (Dean). Ms. Jackson needed to come up with another one and fast and she did an amazing job!

I also loved the reality's of Remy and Asher's relationship. I loved how Ms. Jackson didn't try to make them have a perfect 'soul-mate' relationship like some other books. They had their ups and downs and have moments where they doubted each other. Even though they have the connection, they still manage to have a somewhat normal relationship. That added a sense of reality for me that really added to my overall enjoyment of the novel.

Remy's father plays a huge part in grounding Remy when Asher or Lucy can't. When Remy comes back from her grandfather's, he realizes that she's keeping secrets but also understands that some things are better left unsaid. It's like he has this little voice in his head telling him how to be the best father possible!

All in all, this book was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. It displays real problems woven into a 'fantasy' setting. The relationship's were very realist and added to the overall understanding of the characters and what they are dealing with. Five stars!

***********************************************************************Talk about plot twists!!! This book was chock full of them! My emotions were ALL over the place which is what makes it such a good book. Instead of sitting on the sidelines, I was experiencing everything. The whole thing with her grandfather just broke my heart but it was necessary. We needed an evil person in this book and having them in disguise just made the book that much more perfect. I was so excited to finally get this book that I read it suuuuper fast so I'm going to read it again before finishing the review. Toodles!

3,5 yıldız.
Kitabın son beş on sayfası hariç epey tahmin edilebilirdi ve bu beni delirtti. Onun dışında anlatımı sağlam. Vakit öldürmek için okunabilir. Son kitabı da okuyup bitirmeyi planlıyorum. Kısmet. Gabe'i çok seviyorum bu arada.

If it's possible, I actually liked this book better than the first one and that rarely happens with sequels. I loved the characters once again and I loved the plot twists. There was just so much going on I couldn't put the book down!

Bleh. I'm barely holding out for Gabe. Remy was worse in this book: still a martyr, gullible, easily manipulated, TSTL. I don't know what happened to the more street-smart Remy, but she was not in this book. Also, the "I will love you for all eternity no matter what" stuff is still as juvenile, old, and redundant as it was in the first book, and knowing what I know about endgame, it is cheapening Remy's words and actions and the later developments. The bond stuff...also cheapened. 'Nuff said.

In case you want a better idea of my thoughts about book 2, here is my review for the first one:

Touched (Sense Thieves, #1) Touched by Corrine Jackson

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I skimmed a good portion of this book, reading words but not feeling them. Does that make sense? A whole lot everything and nothing happened. I didn't connect to any of the characters. I didn't care for Remy and Asher as a couple, didn't care for Remy's ability to heal others in exchange for having their injuries transfer to her, and I didn't certainly care for the fact that she healed whoever and whenever—no matter the risk she was putting herself and her family at in the possibility of exposure from the big, bad people. A martyr.

Remy and Asher's being together was supposed to be highly forbidden and dangerous because of who she is and who he is, but I never felt or understood the risk. Maybe it was because I didn't connect with any of the characters that I felt like the characters had nothing to lose, therefore I had no reason to care. Plot-wise? Dull. While there were some unanswered questions by the end of the book, it felt like the story could have ended in book one. The constant reminder that Remy, with her own forbidden, never-before-seen powers *cue eyeroll*, and Asher together was strictly prohibited got old fast. And this was partially due to them falling so head-over-heels so early on. There was not much to keep the story going and an indecent—yes, indecent—amount of I-love-yous exchanged. If not for knowing what is supposed to happen with the romance later on, I wouldn't have continued.

I think I love this series.
The focus on female relations is nice and refreshing, since most books I've read recently just focus on the romances and friendship between boys and girls.
Again it is made very clear that evil people can act like normal loving people and Remy's story and choices are very realistic to me. In this book she has to endure even more torture, and heartbreak, and I don't think I could have handled any of it the way she did.

I am glad I do not have to wait till the next book is written!

I was almost as angry and sad when I thought Asher died as Remy. I couldn't believe a character that I'd invested so much affection into was a gone. I was grateful for Gabe coming to her rescue and was starting to come around to him, but now I'm heartbroken for him. Don't get me wrong - I was ecstatic that Asher was alive, but I'm still heartbroken for Gabe. I only wish he'd hung around a little bit longer, to help prevent Remy's world getting turned upside down yet again. I can't see how she's going to ever get her family back to good again.

Pushed by Corrine Jackson really pushed everything. I really enjoyed this book and how everything is brought together. This book involves with romance, drama, complications, powers and so many amazing things. After reading the first book Touched, I had to continue with the rest of the series. There were so many things that happened in the story and new characters get introduced. It was all so breathtaking. Overall I gave this book a million/5.

Pushed continues the struggles of Remy and Asher. There are quite a few unlikable characters in this book and I must say I was not happy with the progression of the story. The writing was good so I continued reading. I was disappointed with the cliff hanger ending. I am debating as to whether I'll read the third book.

I was hoping this would be better than the first, but it just kinda lost me. I didn't like Remy anymore, she became very whiny, as did Lucy. Remy's relationship with Asher did not seem healthy. And I didn't like the insta-relationship she had with her grandfather.

This went from fairly decent story, with an interesting premise to just kinda basic and boring.

I felt this book had a lot more going on than book 1. I mean come on can this girl get a break. So much stuff happened in book 2. I really saw this Gabe thing going somewhere else and actually hoped for it. In the end I was really conflicted about Gabe versus Asher and not sure how I felt about that situation. Again so much happens in this book.

I loved it!!!

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure, suspense, romance, and drama. Some parts where a bit sad but that just encourages the story. I gave it this rate because this book is everything is everything that I want it to have. If you are going to read this book, be prepared. It's the book of your life.

After sleeping on it, I decided I didn't like the book. The writing was good, so I read it in one sitting, but this doesn't feel like a YA fantasy novel anymore. It feels like a cult fanfic with torture fantasies. I quite simply hated it, even though the plot twist were well written.

I'm reading the third one just so I can draw this awful story to a close and hopefully get a happy ending.

I knew it - I saw the love triangle coming from the start. (Plus, with all it had in common with Twilight...) I figured , though it dragged long enough that I was starting to doubt it. And seriously, Remy had a lot of really stupid moments.
