A supernatural saga of a 13-year-old by day, and a leader of a demon clan by night—straight from the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump!
While the day belongs to humans, the night belongs to yokai, supernatural creatures that thrive on human fear. Caught between these worlds is Rikuo Nura. He's three-quarters human, but his grandfather is none other than Nurarihyon, the supreme commander of the Nura clan, a powerful yokai consortium. So, Rikuo is an ordinary teenager three quarters of the time, until his yokai blood awakens. Then Rikuo transforms into the future leader of the Nura clan, leading a hundred demons.
As the ancient yokai Hagoromo-Gitsune prepares to give birth to the new reincarnation of Nue, ancestor to the world-killing Gokadoin clan, Rikuo rushes to learn new skills and battle moves that will ready him for his biggest battle yet.
Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan, Vol. 15: Fragments of the Past ends with one of the most shocking twists of the series!
This volume is full of action from cover to cover, and there are some very exciting moments when familiar faces pop up in the midst of the chaos. Yet, the pace of the story feels slow. It didn't engage me fully as previous volumes have done. I believe a big part of it is that the action sequences can be very cluttered, making it somewhat confusing to follow along.
Although this volume isn't the thrilling page-turner that we've grown accustomed to from this series, it is still a lot of fun. In no way is it boring. With the monumental events that occur in this volume, I think my expectations were set unreasonably too high. I hoped for more oomph, but I think that will be coming soon.
The suspenseful ending has me on edge to read the next volume. I cannot wait to learn the truth about the death of Rikuo's father, Rihan. This volume feels as if it's setting up for something very big to come within the next couple of volumes. I'm excited to see what's to come with Rihan, Hagoromo-Gitsune, Nue, Goku, and Rikuo.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>
The yokai Hagoromo-Gitsune gives birth to the new reincarnation of Nue, also known as Abe no Seimei, ancestor to the world-killing Gokadoin clan. The fight to stop the birth lost, Rikuo and his allies must now not only stop Hagoromo from killing them, but also find a way to neutralize this new being that could signal the end of all things!
My Thoughts:
What in the hells is going on here?! What are those memories Hagoromo-Gitsune keeps having? What really happened the night Rihan was killed? Why is she calling Rihan father? So much to discover!
Right now, the Nura Clan, the Tono group and the Onmyouji group have a lot on their hands! Seimei is about to emerge from that giant baby shell and Rikuo and Yura are having a hell of a time against Hagoromo-Gitsune. However, she seems to be having some internal struggles of her own. When Rikuo starts speaking to the human her, she seems to be remembering the night Rihan was killed. From the angle that Rikuo saw it, Hagormo-Gitsune is the one that killed Rihan, but is that really what happened.
Another very busy volume, although this time the plot sticks to a couple of arcs keeping things in better perspective than V14. The birth and the H-G plot have become very interesting and there is some great art and scenes of H-G. The foreshadowing of where her story is going really has me interested and she is still one of my favourite characters especially now that her character has been given depth. There are soooo many characters in play now though that what I would *really* like at this point is a guide book that gives the low-down on everybody! The bonus stories at the end were a little odd and I would have preferred the space have been used for the main story instead. So a good volume for plot continuation but I'm feeling that too much is going on in the last couple of volumes to fully appreciate the story.
