Amanda is a lonely little girl. Her mother means well, but doesn't have a lot of time for a 9-year-old and, after plenty of begging from Amanda, agrees to let her have a pet. Amanda chooses a ferret (and names her Peach) because ferrets aren't ordinary and, darn it, neither is she! But her mom sets up Two Big Rules: 1) Amanda has to care for Peach, and 2) Peach can't ever bite Amanda. It seems like Amanda finally has the friend she's needed... but Peach sees Amanda's hands as five-serpent monsters - and bites in what she thinks of as self-defense! What will little, lonely Amanda do now if her mom finds out her new best pet is actually a biter?!
A manga that's all about ferrets? How did it take me this long to find it?
I love how the book is divided between the young girls point of view as well as her ferret, Peach. It's fun to consider what our animals are thinking about and this series is the first I've seen to explore ferrets specifically. I can't wait to read more!
This would be great if the entire story was told from the ferret's POV instead of switching back and forth between the girl and her pet. I couldn't stand the little girl, she reminded me of Darla in Finding Nemo and her mom just leaves her alone with this pet to abuse. The girl constantly lies to her mom about the being bitten, doesn't tell her mom how she was rough with the ferret when they took it to the vet. I was reading this to see if I thought it would be appropriate for my daughter, who just got her first pet, and I really don't think it's something I would want her reading. The child in this story is overly emotional, abusive to animals and a liar and instead of having any sort of punishment or lesson her mom just keeps taking her to the pet store to buy more stuff, because that is the answer to the problem. I don't understand this world where a parent gets a pet without knowing anything about it other than it bites and just hands it off to a child to figure out. Other reviewers said this is "cute" and "funny." I found it disturbing.
This, at first glance, is a strange little manga series about a 9 year old girl mistreating her pet ferret. It's really quite harrowing what poor old Peach goes through - being violently shaken around in a box, squeezed, squished, dropped on the floor - and it is all shown in detail from the ferrets perspective, just how badly she is being treated - and yet, it's all very lighthearted and seemingly meant to be comedic?! AND YET, I couldn't put it down. I think because the ferret has her own storyline where she is a warrior princess perhaps? (Yes, really). Strangely compelling, fairly disturbing and admittedly cute. But, so weird.
This a terrific book, it is a comic like book. I really love it because it is about a adorable, crazy ferret, named Peach. In the story, a girl named Amanda, begs and begs her mother to buy her her VERY own pet.So finally Amanda gets her mother to say "yes." When Amanda gets to the pet store with her mother, she takes for ever, to find a pet she wants. First her mother says that she should get a goldfish. But of course she didn't want one. Then Amanda looked around a little longer and then she found the pet she wanted! Amanda had decided to get a ferret! Her mother did not want her to have one so, she tried again to tell her daughter that she should get a goldfish. But finally she got her mother to say yes again. When Amanda had gotten in the car, she decided to name her new pet ferret, Peach. If yo want to know more about this unbelievable book, then you can read it yourself! HAVE FUN READING!

Cute and meaningful, focusing on the responsibilities of pet ownership - passing this on to my son in hopes that he WON'T want a ferret and WILL clean out the kitten's litter box. This is probably going to backfire on me...
I chose to read this manga as a bit of a brain-break for myself after tearing through quite a few books back to back.
Peach Fuzz is actually comfort media for me. I first read this back in middle school, and loved it so much that I checked it out over and over again from the school library (Mrs. Kidd, if you're reading this, thank you for letting me do that!).
This silly little manga is about a baby ferret named Peach and her owner, Amanda, a lonely young girl. Amanda convinces her mother to allow her to get a pet, and they settle on a ferret, but if the pet causes any trouble, Amanda's mom tells her daughter that they'll return the ferret immediately. Amanda, dedicated to making sure Peach is the perfect fit, tries her hardest to tame Peach. Little does Amanda know that Peach is descended from ferret royalty, and she does not bend to the will of others easily!
I definitely am not the target demographic for this series, but nonetheless, reading it brought me plenty of enjoyment. I would highly recommend this for a younger audience (maybe 4th-6th grade), especially if you're trying to introduce a young one to manga. The illustration is adorable and the story is lighthearted and relatable for younger audiences. I'll rate it four stars for myself solely because I loved it years ago and still do today.
This manga had quite the grip on me when I was in 6th grade. I pretty much had it rented out from the library for the entire school year. Then I bought my own copy when my family went to this giant comic book store in Salem. Heck, I had even made my own ferret characters and began writing my own story with them(Their names were Hazel and sunflower). I took personality quizzes on Quizilla and looked at fan art on Deviantart and ironically, never read the rest of the series because I couldn't get my hands on them. Still, I researched every character. to say i was a super fan would be an understatement.
On top of it all, Peach reminded me of my mother's rabbit, Maya, who was our feisty little princess. Both were cute and girly, but would totally fight you. I think of them both often
Thanks for the cute comic and the great memories <3
After Amanda is promised a pet by her mother - so long as it never hurts her - she chooses a small ferret she quickly names Peach, unaware that her new companion views herself as a princess that must defend herself from the dreaded hand at all costs! Cibos and Hodges bring young readers a decently comedic story with some entertaining visuals and soft moments, though its constant rough handling of pet care is irksome. Can Amanda and Peach find a way to get along, or is it back to the pet store for this royal ferret?
A cute and inventive children’s series with obvious manga influences. I appreciate that the series encourages kids to think about how their actions and intentions might be understood completely differently by animals. Not a topic that gets a lot of play, and it’s covered in a very playful way here, but it’s a good way to start a useful conversation.
This is cute I suppose. The girl is a brat and handle her pet too roughly. The Mother keeps spending money to try to please her daughter and find a solution to the problems they have. The overall situation leaves a bad taste in my mouth but I do like the illustrations and the story from the ferret's side.
My kids love reading comic books before bed. This one was not a fan favorite. I completely lost my son midway through. 7 year old daughter stuck it out.
Story was much different then the cover indicated. That was my daughters only issue.
So this wasn’t what I thought it was but would be great for kids!! It’s about a girl and her adventure of getting a ferret! It had some misadventures and learning experiences but it went well! So cute
I fully forgot this managa existed until I saw it available to borrow as an ebook at the library, but this is one of the first manga I ever read! It's a cute light-hearted story that is half told from the point of view of a self-absorbed ferret, and it's just a fun quick read.
This was cute. I had a manga prompt in one of my reading challenges, so I chose this graphic novel to fill it. It was illustrated very much in the style of Japanese comics and the story about Amanda and her new pet ferret was really fun. I was a little disappointed when I started to read because the entire book was in black and white, whereas the cover was in color. I was hoping to have a full-color experience, but it was enjoyable nonetheless.
