I was born and raised in the small town of Klamath Falls. It is there that I met my husband and had my first two children. In 1999 we left Klamath Falls, headed towards Portland. I have since had one more child and have settled in Newberg. I worked as a waitress in a French Bistro for nearly five years before quitting to help care for my ill grandmother. It was during my care of her that I decided to go to school for Medical Assisting. I had planned on continuing onto nursing, but landed a job with a Dr. I highly admire in a practice that I love, that has trained me beyond my schooling. In the nearly five years that I have been employed there, I have spent a large amount of time commuting. During those times I would spin many stories in my mind with the intention of writing them down. I have always loved to write, but have ventured away from it due to lack of time and life. The story of Neveah and Lilly stuck with me and I decided to write it down. I never intended for it to go this far, or become a full fledged story that I would be so proud of. I look forward to seeing where this journey leads me!

A great imagination! I didn't expect the change in the book. I didn't read a blurb or anything. I just wanted to be surprised by each chapter and I was not disappointed. It had a tad bit of different themes and they came together wonderfully. The characters were out of this world, literally. The descriptions the author gave had me imagining a beautiful place with all different sort of creatures that happened to visit me in my dream once I finally fell asleep. From the way the book started, you could tell that you were being set up for adventure! Overall I think the author did a great job!

A portal leads Lilly and her true love Shep to a parallel universe, the land of Neveah. It seems idyllic, populated with faeries and Feys and gentle giants and Specials with unique powers. But this seemingly peaceful paradise is beset with all the foibles and flaws of the Ordinary world: lust, jealousy and thirst for power. Lilly and Shep may have the power to set things right, but can they? Do they even want to or would they rather just go back to the Ordinary World and live out their life and love together? I liked the ending which I did not see coming.

I have to admit to vacillating between three and four stars. If it were on story alone it might rate five stars but there were so many things I had a hard time with. The beginning is way too romantic and gushing without my even caring about the couple. That goes on for SO many chapters. I would have liked to see Lilly and Shep separately grow into strong individuals of their own right before anything else happened. That didn't happen much. The good part of the first few chapters was a feeling that editing had taken place.

Please remember, I do love the story and eventually almost all the characters. But there were so many holes in the plot. War? What war? Only strongest together but rarely together. Both seem to have the same talents, so how could they be stronger? And Who are you, Ms. author? George R.R. Martin? You have killed off some important characters here. (Just kidding.) Okay, I understand that you have a couple more books to follow this one, and I will read them to see what happened.

I got this book free from the author through Libboo for an honest review. And Libboo is a lot of the problems. I think it is their formatting that made the book lose all paragraphs and threw the reading process into the sewer. Interrupting the flow of story to hear the commercial was as bad as commercials on television. If you think that keeps the reader/watcher engaged you need to watch real people. We record things to avoid commercials. While reading something for Libboo I tend to go read an email while I waited (ADD, here)and by doing so I miss the first sentence or two of the next chapter. Often the commercial falls in such a way that I had to go back and reread the last couple lines of the story. Wouldn't the commercial at the beginning and end of the book be sufficient to remind the reader where the book came from?

Again, I need to say, I did love the story. Yep, there's another but... If you read like I do using text-to-speech, you find a lot more errors that by reading silently. Many words had spaces in them, such as, 's he'. I read along with the robot voice so I see the errors. But if I had been driving or been busy multitasking those would have led to misunderstandings much greater. I was a little worried about misspellings when in the acknowledgements the author thanked her editors for 'thier' help. I assumed that they didn't get to read the acknowledgements before the book was published. From the middle out toward the end the errors increased as the story got more exciting.

Story is why I still haven't downgraded the star rating. I couldn't stop reading. And it will lead me to get book two to see what happens. Thank you for letting me read this fun book.

Reviewed for Readers Favorite

Lilly and Shep had grown up together, neighbors and friends and as they grew the bond grew until the age of eighteen they knew they were soulmates. What they didn't know was that they were refugee's from another world and they would be called back to rescue their mothers. A Broken Forever is the duel story of two life long playmates raised together, one set bonded and married, the other set promised to each other but not bonded, torn apart by love. One mans obsession with a woman he can not have leads a whole country into turmoil. Angie Merriam does a wonderful job of weaving the world of Earth and Neveah together and making them seem somewhat alike. There are similarities in the stories of the two different generations, yet neither generation has learned not to sacrifice themselves to save a loved one.

A Broken Forver is scheduled to be the first in a series of books set in the world of Neveah by author Angie Merriam. While this does end on a bit of cliffhanging kind of note, it does seem to be a pretty natural stopping point in the story. The characters of Lilly and Shep are so naive and innocent, it is refreshing. In fact most of the people in Neveah are naive and innocent, more so than the regular world of today, and so it makes it a comforting book to relax into and read. There is one pretty detailed assault scene that might be a little graphic for younger readers, but for the most part it is pretty well written for young adults and adults.

Neveah written by author Angie Merriam truly shows her talent. As a debut novel Angie Merriam has hit the mark and set the bar high. Neveah is a vibrant, well written and amazing story that quickly grabs your attention and refuses to let go. The characters that Angie Merriam created for her world are interesting and easy to fall in love with. The descriptions of both creatures and her world are so well done if you close your eyes the images will be easily conjured. Neveah holds twists and turns for readers that will make them want to laugh or cry or just yell "OMG" when the truth comes out. Angie Merriam has such a way of writing that the speech of many of the characters is almost like poetry the way it just rolls off your tongue. Neveah is a powerful story that just beckons for more. Angie Merriam has a great imagination and shows her ability grab and keep ones attention. I cannot wait to read book two 'Neveah Standing Broken' to read what happens next to the characters I grew to love.

Rundown:
Neveah (A Broken Forever)
A imaginative fantasy with romance and adventure. This story has wonderful characters that at times are unbelievable.
A journey to another world that will have you turning pages for more. This story is full of romance, adventure, laughter, crying, murder, mayhem, unique characters, and more.

What I liked:
I liked the journey and adventure to a mystical place. I usually don't read this type of book, but Neveah has changed my mind. I look forward to the next book & part of this journey.

What I didn't like:
When I started reading, I didn't care too much for Lilly & Shep. But, as time grew, so did my love for these characters.
The beginning was a little slow and kind of unbelievable. I'm a "Happy ever after" kinda girl, and I'm hoping it will come in the next chapter of this series.

Although I generally don't read in this gender. I made the exception since it was recommended by a friend and she was right. I was surprised by how the author grabs hold of you from the first chapter into this endearing fantasy world of Neveah were Fey's, fairies and Specials live in and the main characters of Lily and Shep make you root for them and their love.
The only problem I had was that it ended I wanted to continue reading Shep's and Lily's journey, guess that means starting volume two.

I discovered Neveah (A Broken Forever) through Goodreads. Though the start of the novel is in our world, most of it takes place in the fantasy world of Neveah. The two main characters, Lilly and Shep, are star-crossed lovers, and a part of both worlds.
The story blends romance and fantasy, but you won’t find the elements of your typical romance here, so be warned. You’ll hate the antagonist almost from the moment you meet him.
Neveah is an imaginative novel with romance, fantasy, and adventure that sets itself up well for future books in the series.

I found the entire Neveah series captivating. I truly enjoyed the way Angie Merriam created her world. I felt as though I was right there, watching her characters grow and mature. I felt the pain they endured, and the love they found. Angie took me on an incredible journey, and inspired me to create my own journey.

Fantastical

I absolutely love the characters in this story. A wonderfully written tale of of two worlds a doorway apart. The evil verses good. The love and loss. The unexpected turn of events had me going to Amazon to grab the next book. I love Angie's books.

I got this for free from Libboo in return for "buzzing" about it on social media. The only reason that I finished reading it is because I took my promise seriously. Otherwise I would have stopped around Chapter 5.

I didn't notice spelling and grammar problems in the first few chapters, but there are a lot after that, which made me wonder whether someone edited the part that would be a free sample in an ebook but then stopped. Most of the spelling issues are use of the wrong word: someone steps into a whole instead of a hole; the villain thinks about how week his enemies are (instead of how weak). The grammar issues include misusage of apostrophes (They show up where they aren't needed and don't show up for possessives where they should)and lack of punctuation or capitalization inside dialogue ("Isn't that right mother").

The book is written at a YA level: relatively short sentences, limited vocabulary, main character is a teenager.
The narration switches between chapters. Some are told in first person by Lilly, a young woman who grew up in a trailer in Oregon and has been home-schooled. The only other people she knows (or at least that she ever mentions) are her mother and a neighboring family. Other chapters are written in third person with an omniscient narrator who knows what everyone is thinking. Many of these chapters ended with someone pledging to kill the bad guy.

At first I thought that the writing style was to illustrate that the narrator was a teenager, but eventually came to the conclusion that this is simply how this author writes, since the omniscient chapters which included the viewpoints of many older characters sounded equally teenager-ish.

The main character, Lilly, and her boyfriend Shep, travel through a portal to a different world. But the characters there still use slang such as OK and yeah, when conversing with Lilly.

All of these style issues bothered me to the point where I didn't care about the story because I didn't think the book should have been published without editing.

A Broken Forever is a story similar to Narnia. If it wasn't for the curse words and mention of adult situations within the book, I would have said that it was a book that was more for the young adult reader than the adult reader. I could easily see some of the book altered to be just that since the situation is more to the reading material of a teen than on the level of an adult.

The mixture of reviews on this book is understandable since I myself am having a problem with how to define the book. In my eyes this book isn't ok but fair but I didn't hate it. It was just not what I was expecting out of it. If you a big Narnia fan then you will probably like this. I don't know anyone that speaks the way they do within this book.

Escapism at its best. I so loved the fantasy element to this story, it swept me away to a fantasy world parallel to Narnia, the Never Ending Story and Twilght — the land of Neveah. The writing is highly descriptive and perfectly paced. This is the story of two young lovers: Shep and Lilly and the trials and misadventures which they encounter in this faraway land, and the forces which are hell-bent on keeping them apart. This story is beautifully told from multiple POV's and varied time stamps throughout the book; this kept me hooked and compulsively turning pages to see what would happen next. Can't wait to read the next in the series! If you're a lover of all that's paranormal, this is a must-read.

This was an interesting book to read. I loved Lilly and Shep and their deep love for each other. The rest of the story was filled with twists and turns as they travelled to Neveah to rescue Lilly's mom. I felt just as confused as Lilly in regards to not knowing who to trust or what was expected or how to defeat Jax and rescue his prisoners.
I'm looking forward to reading the next story to see how things continue for Lilly.

Neveah has an intriguing and imaginative storyline that is full of well-developed, captivating characters. The first book in this fantasy series is enjoyable and it's the kind of book that makes you want to turn the page to find out what happens next. Unfortunately, the lack of editing tripped me up at almost every turn.

The writing style felt too young for the subject matter. It would at times be easy to believe this as a children's book but the frequent references to sex and sexual violence simply don't fit. There were parts of the story which seemed contradictory - though this could have been down to me forgetting passages.
