This was an enjoyable enough novella but it was slightly underdeveloped.
I also wasn’t completely convinced of the connection forming between Hazel and Knut.
It’s quite a short read with some good ideas but I think the length impacted the story somewhat.
There’s not a massive amount of world-building either it’s there but not that elaborate again I think due to how brief this was.
Knut along with his fellow warriors who are all wolf shifters berserkers with an inner beast come across the cave of the Corpse King.
Hazel is a young eighteen-year-old orphan escaping from his clutches, she’s also Knut’s mate.

This one is quite insta-love and also has some punishment spankings, the heat between Hazel and Knut is also quite high.
There’s not much angst and this is a pretty straightforward read, I was just kinda hoping for something slightly more from it all.

Hazel and Knut didn’t seem that developed and I never felt like I got to know them on any deeper or personal level.
The secondary characters weren’t that fleshed out either, The writing itself here was fine but it failed to draw me in.
It did have some imaginative ideas I just wish everything has been in a bit more depth, A shame as this could have been so much better than it was.

Lone Wolf No More

Picking up toward the end of Fleur's story in Claimed By The Berserkers, Hazel has escaped the Corpse King's cave and is on the run from his minions, the Grey Men, when she literally crashes into Knut, who is known for being a bit of a lone wolf within the pack, and several of his warrior pack mates.

'I needed to remember to be gentle, to put her at ease. I was used to barking commands and leading men, not saying sweet things to a woman.'
-- Knut

Yeah, like the other spaewives in this series, Hazel is far from frail. 🤣 She is fierce, even when she thinks she's weak, and proves to be a force to be reckoned with. I love how she stands up to Knut, before, during, and after their bond is established. I also love how he is willing to do anything to keep her safe, even when that means going against the call of his alpha.

I listened to an author awarded copy of this as part of The Berserker Brides Saga Box Set as well as read my copy of the book. Jasper Woodcock is the narrator and he does a really good job but, as I'm oft to mention, a second voice for the female perspective would've been preferred.

Good plot, Hazel is on the run from a powerful mage who wants to make her his bride, and Knut rescues her. He's a man, wolf, and beast combo. The spanking and 'yes sir' talk turned me off, but the sex scenes were still pretty good.

To be honest it was more like a 2.5 stars but gave it 3 becase It had potential. I got this as a freebie on Amazon because I like to read PNR when I don't feel like reading something more serious. Sadly this book wasn't for me. I love a good, short, light PNR, but his one was heavy and with too many ideas wrapped in one. The writing style was good but the story didn't do it for me.

Only a very special woman can tame a Berserker warrior. On a mission from the Alphas, Knut finds this soulmate, his heart in the form of a beautiful young woman on the run from an evil mage, not a moment too soon. His spirit animal is on the verge of overtaking his soul and he will be lost, unless he can convince Hazel she is the lifeline he needs to survive intact.

RESCUED BY THE BERSERKER is a quick, steamy read with some witty dialogue sprinkled in. Lee Savino’s short tale was perfect for a quick read that will take the chill off a reader’s imagination and set it to boil! Short, sweet, with a fumbling Berserker brought to his knees by love, lust and his mate bond!

I thought that this story was going to be a strong one, a good paranormal about shifters and finding their mates and whatnot. But I was wrong, it was almost a sex story and the plot was about that only really, with the storyline well as practically a backstory.

Knut was a strong warrior, harsh, rough around the edges, independent and part of a pack of wolves with a shared bond but he wasn't only a wolf he fought for control namely over his beast.

Hazel at first seemed timid and scared and a vulnerable woman but as we read more into the story we saw more depth to her character and she seemed to show more strength, gumption and fire. I liked her as a character but I disliked the way she submitted every time to Knut after one punishment which was again sexual based. I know most paranormal and shifter books contain some submission but this was put in almost every chapter and then the story put in like an afterthought.

Overall I didn't enjoy this book and won't be going out of my way to read anymore of this series, I was lead to believe it was going to be more paranormal but it was more of an erotica now I'm not a prude and don't have a problem with that genre but I do when it lacks storyline and depth.

The first book in the berserker brides is a really amazing story for Lee Savino. Hazel was raised in a nunnery and was told she was not that special but turns out that she has a earth magic. This makes her attractive to ancient powers trying to revive itself from corpse like state which puts her in danger. Escapes the corpse kings minions when she is suppose to be sacrificed to him is going to be hard until she meets a berseker named Knut.
Knut is a line berseker he has not bonded with his brethren to help stave off the inner beast that wants to take over. He makes rash decisions when it comes to Hazel his beast is clouding his judgement. Will he be able to save her and himself with his inner beast battling him every step of way?

This novella is a spin-off of the original Berserker series. Unlike some of the other books, it is not a menage romance but still on the steamy side. Overall an enjoyable paranormal romance and I look forward to more in the series.

I enjoyed reading about Knut and Hazel. This was something new to me as I’ve never read about Berserkers before. Hazel is running away from the Grey men at the same time Knut and his crew want to fight them. This was an interesting story.

I really enjoyed this audiobook. It has a good storyline to start this series. The characters are what I expected from this genre. A defiant woman and an alpha that doesn’t put up with the defiance.

This is book one in this series, but it should probably be book seven in the Berserker Saga. There was a lot missing from the beginning, but if you read the other series you won't be lost. It was a little all over the place, but not horrible. Just a little weird.

I’m a Fan of shifters – Berserkers create a new Level of Exciting!!!

Knut, Leif and Rolf are tracking thieves when a young lady being chase by Grey Men run right into them. Hazel goes from the frying pan to the fire when she is “rescued” by a warrior with “inhuman strength and speed, and for a moment, I’d caught a glimpse of the beast-like form underneath his human one, the monster waiting to break free. Whoever my captor was, he was more than a man.”

Both protective and dominant; Knut works to protect and win over Hazel, requiring him to disobey his Alpha.

Increased danger, magic, a steamy relationship and Berserker attributes make this a remarkable read!!!

While this book is the first in what I think of as a spin-off series from Ms. Savino's original Berserker series, it is considered a standalone novella. The new series is entitled the Berserker Brides. However, I would strongly suggest that you read the first five books in the original series before starting this book. You will miss a significant amount of background knowledge of the characters, their history, and their development if you don't read the other books first. However, as I stated, it is designed as a standalone book. It's a bridge between Claimed by the Berserkers (book 5 in the Berserker series) and this new series. In my opinion, it's yet another example of Lee Savino's excellent storytelling. This book is well-worth reading. Since it's a novella, it's a short read that I accomplished in under an hour.

This is the story of Hazel and Knut. Knut is one of the Berserkers, a group of superior warriors cursed long ago by a witch. The spell the witch cast endowed each of the Berserkers with unimaginable power, strength, recuperative abilities, and made them all the most fearsome of warriors. But it came at a terrible price. The Beast within must be controlled. To lose control would mean total death and destruction to any and all. Such a terrible price to pay, even if such great power comes with it. The Alphas of the Berserker clans have learned that the Beast within will kill them all eventually unless there's a way to calm and soothe it. But what could possibly have this ability? Is anything like this even possible? Where does the answer lie?

Hazel is an "orphan" living at the abbey on the same island on which two separate Berserker clans have taken refuge for decades. The Berserkers live separately from the island natives, only interacting when absolutely necessary. Hazel certainly has no idea that the Berserkers even exist, much less what they are. She's lived a very unremarkable life at the abbey. The nuns are very strict with all the orphans. The friar who runs the abbey is...strange, to say the very least. And then there are the "Grey Men" who are the silent guardians of the abbey, very bizarre and very silent.

One day, a new woman is brought to the abbey. Her name is Fleur, and unlike all the other women at the abbey, she is neither a nun nor a young orphan. She's a fully grown woman. There's never been an outsider brought to the abbey before who wasn't either a nun or an orphan. This is totally unexpected and unprecedented. Why is Fleur there? The friar is extremely disturbed by Fleur's presence. What does he intend to do with Fleur? As Hazel accidentally stumbles into the room where Fleur is being held captive, she immediately realizes something's not right. After talking with Fleur, Hazel realizes Fleur's being held prisoner. But why? And while Hazel knows there's danger if she involves herself in abbey matters that are beyond her responsibilities, she feels an immediate kinship with Fleur. She knows she has to try to help her. But doing so puts Hazel at great risk. Both she and Fleur soon face grave peril, loss, terror, and even possibly death.

With this novella, Lee Savino has once again shown her ability to take a storyline, continue and expand on it, with the end result being a totally thrilling and engrossing novella. She successfully bridges the gap between the original Berserker series and this new Berserker Brides series with her amazing writing technique. I was so engrossed in the book that I never even looked at the Kindle feature showing how many minutes were left in the book, not once! I was amazed at the depth of the story, the emotions involved, the development of the relationships in the book, and how this novella completely bridged the gap from the original series to a completely new series in a book that was so short yet so compelling and enthralling. I truly believe Lee Savino is an extremely talented author. I can only say, kudos Lee! You have yet another success on your hands!

I would be remiss if I did not make one final comment. This is an ADULT book. It contains very adult themes, explicit language, sexual scenes, violence, and paranormal/shapeshifter elements. If you don't enjoy erotic romance containing these elements, please carefully consider your purchase before buying this or any other book in either of these series. PLEASE DON'T BUY ANY BOOK IN A GENRE YOU KNOW YOU WON'T ENJOY AND THEN LEAVE A NEGATIVE REVIEW OF THE BOOK AS IT'S SIMPLY NOT FAIR TO THE AUTHOR! She works hard to provide such great books, and if you know before you purchase any book that you'll object to the subject matter contained therein, you'll be doing not only yourself, but the author, an extreme disservice. But if you do enjoy spicy, erotic romance with paranormal/shapeshifter elements, I would definitely recommend both the Berserker and Berserker Brides series.

Thanks for reading my review and happy reading!

Lee Savino's "Rescued by the Berserker" is from a planned series of wolf/berserker books; this was the first of the series. The antagonist of this story is a mage skilled in necromancy, called the 'Corpse King'. The extremely small description of this one dimensional villian was similar to a vampire many may have heard of, Nosferatu - some call him the original vampire villian in movies, by the way. The Corpse King commands an army of undead, again not really described but this reader came away with the impression of Borg-like zombies that follow the command of their leader, the Corpse King. The Corpse King is kidnapping spaewives - in case you are unsure, a spaewife is a Scots word used to describe a female fortune-teller, prophetess or witch - for unstated reasons; some he 'eats', but according to the alpha protagonist, Knut, the Corpse King planned to make his mate and the young heroine, Hazel, his bride. No reasoning is offered anywhere within this first story as to why the Corpse King 'eats' spaewives, or why he should desire Hazel as his bride.

Characters were barely described, let alone developed, making it extremely difficult for this reader to visualize them or feel any empathy for or with them. Some of their dialogue had an authentic feel to it, while at other times it felt forced and unnatural. The story itself was told from both Knut and Hazel's point of view, which is fine and should allow a reader a greater sense of familiarity with a character while in their head; unfortunately, this reader did not find that to be happening. Savino told a lot of the story instead of showing it, although there were scenes she did a good job showing and those scenes allowed this reader a chance to visualize what was happening - much like a fly on the wall. Had the characters been better developed and more fully realized, the sex scenes could have been pretty hot, especially if one is interested in a dominant/submissive sex life. However, this reader only found them along the lines of 'eh'. Some of the settings were detailed enough to easily visualize, others were not. There were enough grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors, as well as missing words, found in this story that it did toss this reader out of Savino's world fairly often.

At the end of this first tale, Savino's blurb about planned upcoming books in this series concern ménage à trois of two males and one female as mates; this is not an area this reader is interested in, so she will not be reading any more of Lee Savino's works. This reader found Savino's writing style choppy at times, more fluid at others; however, she definitely has a creative flair, so while this reader will not 'not' recommend her writing, she will not recommend it, either.

Rescued by the Berserker (Berserker Brides, #1) by Lee Savino Rescued by the Berserker (The Berserker Brides Book 1) By: Lee Savino
Taken From An Abby To Become A Dichotomy To Berserkers!!
She's on the run... on one side, there's resident evil with the Power hungry Mage who's draining certain girls dry; one the other side, a pack of Berserkers... Is there really a choice?!
Once he scents her it's over for him... he'll do whatever it takes, defy whoever he has to, eliminate whoever gets in his way... Because nothing & no one's getting in his way of claiming her; She's HIS MATE!
Life with her Berserker is a strange new reality where she'll be considered a saviour within a hidden society; it's a fantastical race far from her childhood imaginings back at the abby; She's now in a place where she's to be simultaneously revered, treasured, fought over, & sought after like a commodity & also treated as chattel, subservient, & the lowest, weakest member of the group... It's quite the dichotomy & not easy for her to accept & to adjust to!
I already owned Lee Savino's "Rescued by the Berserker (The Berserker Brides Book 1)," but I'm reviewing it now for Booksprout. I gladly recommend it based upon its own merits. I enjoyed this book, & I'll look forward to more opportunities to read Lee's work in the future. All opinions expressed within this review are uniquely my own & freely given.
Until next time... Happy Reading!

Great story!

I totally read this with out reviewing what it was about. I did come across a few typos but nothing major. This is my first book by this author and I've enjoyed it so much I will be buying more from her list.
Now about this book, first it has your shifters and romance but it was the plot that got me the most. First the berserkers were not at all what I had expected and Lee gave me a different idea of what it could mean to be one. The main hero of this story has it all tall, handsome, brooding, and is wolf/berserker!! I mean can you pack anything else into that? His mate is feisty and has self doubt to deal with due to her upbringing. The two of them struggle with control and we get to read how the are dealing with everything from both perspectives which is how I enjoy reading these types of book.
There journey to get away from the evil that is hunting for is brings them a house that has been abandoned most likely because of the evil killing the . Our hero wants to claim is mate and struggles with doing it right all while trying to keep her safe and blocking out his Alfas demand to come home. None of this is easy for him.
Hazel was a victim from a young age and was taught that her sexuality was a curse and struggles when she feels the desire to be taken by Knut.
It's a power play for both right till the end.
If you like these types of books you should really give this book and the authors other books a try I think you will be taken in by them.
Happy reading

This story seemed slightly different then the normal werewolf or shifter romance reads that I’m use to reading. In this book it seem like the time frame is back in like Viking or Victorian ages and the werewolves or berserker’s are slightly different than the normal werewolf’s. You meet Knut a berserk leader of sorts and he and his fellow comrades are looking for people his Alphas are after. Hazel is a young woman who was raised in this cult like orphanage and was sold from said orphanage to an evil king that controls the dead. She fleas from the dead people before the king is fully awake and runs into Knut and he instantly feels the need to protect her. Although seeing a bunch of giant warrior men isn’t what you want to run into when you already have one enemy. So she try’s to flea from them. Knut saves her and tells his warriors to continue without him as he try’s to get her to safety, then end up getting close to each other. By the end they have fallen for each but she’s plagued by the teachings of the orphanage that her want or need for him is wrong. They finally come together and she ends up with a wonderful man or berserk as a mate and new friends in the village. I will definitely be looking into other books by Lee Savino as to see where the berserkers take us next and to see the ones before Knut and Hazel.

Steamy Short Story

These books are light reading. The depth I typically look for is noticeably absent to keep the writing light. It’s really about the sex and bond between the M/F H or M/F/M Hs depending on the book your reading.

I kind of like how this series unfolds and is written. I didn’t think so at first, but now I am completely sucked in. These little short stories in between help to break things up as each couple or mating has it’s own spicy sexiness and relationship. Plus giving more depth to each character we are introduced to but have read or heard of before. So it feels like a new story each time.

Also like that these women are strong in characters yet still feminine. They are loved and cherished by their men who want to do nothing more than want to please.

The only complaint I may have is the books are very sterile of interaction with previous characters. This wouldn’t normally bother me except that it’s quite noticeable in most book but this one. In the other books just when you expect to see the other characters to be there like Brenna or the babies they’re not there. So it was quite nice to see Sabine and Muriel in this book and right where you want them to be.

Even tho the writing is light the story is well written and nice details to keep the overall storyline that links all the characters together moving.

>Book review – Rescued by the Berkerkers

>I am an independent reviewer. This book is the 7th in the Berserker series and ends in an HEA. Knut is a Berserker, tracking some kidnapped members of his pack. Along the way he meets Hazel. Hazel escaped from some very smelly captors and one angry demon king who wants to marry her. As soon as Knut meets Hazel, he realizes she is his mate. She isn’t sure she can trust Knut, so she refuses to listen to him. Knut shows Hazel how he treats his mate when she disobeys him, by spanking her. This book uses punishment as a form of foreplay. Knut is a virile man, one step up from caveman. He will treat his mate with care, but only when she obeys.

>Apparently, Hazel is able to accept Knut’s conditions and really falls for him. Knut continues to claim Hazel, while continually saving her from the demon king trying to reclaim her. There was just a short period of time spent in the pack, where Hazel interacts with other claimed and mated women. I would have liked a few additional scenes if Knut and Hazel adjusting to life in the pack.

>This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this book 4 stars.

The lone wolf catches a rabbit

Knut is one of the strongest warriors in the Berserker clan, so strong that he doesn't need a brother warrior to bond with to keep his Beast in line. But one whiff of little Hazel's sweet scent, and it's all over but the shouting - man, Beast, and wolf are Hazel's, forever. He knows she's his mate, and a spaewife (wild witches who use natural earth magic for good), and the sooner he can mate with her, bond with her the sooner her magic will add to the pack. All he has to do is help her and escape the black magic of the Corpse King and his evil army of Grey Men. Oh, and in the process he ends up ignoring his Alpha's summons - a crime of disloyalty so bad that it's punishable by death. Plus Hazel isn't so quickly convinced she's up for mating heat, mating bites, or mating a really big Berserker warrior with a REALLY BIG Berserker weapon. (Not to mention the Berserker penchant for spanking... ) It's a wild and sexy story filled with magic and menace and mating, and I heartily recommend it. I thank Booksprout for the ARC, but I had already purchased the book. My review is, as always, voluntary, independent, and uncompensated

Amazing!

I had no idea what a Beresford was or if I'd even like it. I am however, obsessed with Lee Savino. She is that good.

It reminds me a bit of historical romance, but with more magic and fun.

Hazel is a spaewife? And she doesn't know it. The Friar has been selling orphan girls to a dark magician. She ran away from the evil mage and his dead minions, only to run into a warrior.

And for Knut, he knows she is his mate. He can smell it. Literally, since he's a wolf. And a beast, ;)

She won't quit trying to run away and she gets "disciplined" for it, hehe. The lady doth protest too much, hehe.

She insists she's not his mate. It takes her a while to get loose of the conditioning from the abbey. Plus, whenever the full moon comes around, she goes into heat. And sweet Knut is so happy to help.

But the mage's minions and the magical fog separate them. It messes with their heads. He feels guilty. He's a warrior and can't be sweet to her. But finally, they break of their mental chains, and with her being so cute and sneaky.

I am now addicted to berserkers and need to read them all, yesterday.

Not for me.

The H can shift into a wolf and a beast. The book starts off with
the H's clan hunting some traiters/thieves that stole from them. As
the H was in the fields hunting, the h accidentally came upon them
then ran off. She then ran right into the bad guys. SMH.

"I did not know where to go, where to run. The Grey Men were
everywhere. They’d followed me since I escaped from the cave where their master -- the Corpse King, a sorcerer with enough power to make these awful creatures his servants -- slept in a
spelled state. The Corpse King had drained my friend, Sari, of all
her blood. If I hadn't escaped, I was going to be next. "

“And how old are you?”
“Eighteen summers, sir. At least, that’s what the nuns at the abbey
had told me. I was brought to the orphanage when I was a babe.”

The H doesn't know how old he is. A witch made him pretty much immortal.

Overall, I didn't care for this story. I thought it repetitive and boring. I've read one other Berserker book before this one and I have one other to read. After this next one I will stop with this series.

Captivating tale of love & trust

The first book in the Berserker Brides series. This is the shifter storyline of Hazel & Knut. The chemistry between these two is instantaneous. Normally the mates don’t hear each other until after a mating bond is complete but these two are an exception. Hazel is unknowingly a Spaewife. A type of witch that is meant to mate with Berserkers. Hazel was raised by a corrupt religious order and made to believe she was sick and evil. Knut has always been a loner. He never developed a brother bond. But thi gs are about to change for the two of them. Knut smells Hazel’s essence and his beast knows she is his mate! This begins the intriguing twisting tale of Hazel and Knut. It is a captivating and interesting HEA for these two. Like all the Berserker stories, this story is a dark romance with some very hot, sexy, & bdsm scenes. I love all the Berserkers and their Mates! The story continues with the next Berserker Brides book.

Brokk, Leif, Rolf and Knut are on a mission to find the wolves who had stolen from the pack. They come upon an ancient enemy, the Corpse King and his minions. Among the smell of the Corpse Kings minions Knut smells something sweet and beckoning to him. There he meets Hazel. He recognizes her as his mate and is both overjoyed, befuddled and a little bit fearful for how can someone like him deserve a mate. The two of them strive to escape the Corpse King;s minions. In running away they may find something even better although there is a long hard road ahead for both since Hazel doesn;t realize she is a spaewife, a hedge witch, who is able to calm the wolf.
Love this series for both the action and the psychological thriller in getting into the minds of the characters.

Hazel's story begins when she escapes from the Gray men and tries to get help for Fleur.

Alone in the woods, Hazel runs into the middle of the pack. They were the ones looking for the traitors who kidnapped Fleur.
Now Hazel tries to run away from the Gray men and now also from the warrior - Knut.

Knut catches Hazel and tries to protect her from the servants of the Corpse King.
They find an abandoned cabin in the woods, and Knut and Hazel decide to spend the night there.
Knut is a lone wolf and doesn't want to go home until he has claimed Hazel as his mate, so he blocks the connection to his Alphas and pack.
