Hi there! I am a writer of gay furry fiction--but you probably know that if you've seen my book listing here. I live in California with my husband Kit, and when I'm not writing, we like to go out to eat and watch movies. We travel a lot, too, mostly around the West Coast, but occasionally to the midwest and east.

I blog at http://www.kyellgold.com/wpblog about upcoming travel plans, upcoming books and news, general writing principles, gay rights, and whatever else seems interesting. And I co-host a podcast, called "Unsheathed," where we talk about the craft of writing and the furry fandom, sometimes at the same time.

If you have a question about any of the books, check the FAQ on my website and then ask away! :)

Like The Prisoner's Release and Other Stories, this brief collection fills in backstory or adds sidebars to the primary series of the author's Argaean novels. All of the five stories are of high quality and interleave well with the major works. The longest is "Helfer's Busy Day," which relates a single day in the life of Volle's friend Lord Ikling, with a series of humorous and sexy incidents that incidentally touch on Dewry, the illegitimate son of Lord Dewanne who eventually becomes Yilon's adversary in Shadow of the Father. I was more intrigued, though, by the first story in the book, "Jherik's Tale," which gives us the background on Jherik and Benton, whom we met previously in The Prisoner's Release and Other Stories.

Some of these stories have appeared elsewhere, both online and in collections, but if you haven't read them this is a good way to get hold of them. Both print and e-book editions are available. As with much of Gold's writing, there are explicit erotic scenes, some more detailed than others. Most of these do advance the story or the characters' background, and are not overly-distracting. "Yilon's Journal" keeps most of the sexual activity off stage, while relating the experiences of Volle's younger son when he was sent from Vinton to Divalia to complete his education and training under his father's supervision. This is very useful background for Shadow of the Father though it probably makes more sense to one who has already read the latter book.

Certainly recommended for fans of Kyell Gold's work, but probably not a starting point if you haven't read any of the main Argaean books.

Weasel Presents was a lot of fun. I'm going to talk about my favorite short story in the batch which makes the anthology purchase more than worth it.

"Helfer's Busy Day" was a quick-paced, goofy romp with a much more enjoyable protagonist than "Volle," where Helfer made his introduction. Helfer had a lot of smart observations and enjoyable things to say. Much of his conflicts stemmed from nuanced socio-political interactions that often pertained to issues of consent and problem-solving. Helfer was deft in mind as he was in body, and his impatient shortcomings are poked fun at with constant teasing as the reader is dragged in and out of erotic scenes that don't quite pay off until the very end of the story. This was a clever way to put the reader into the protagonist's sense of frustration as he scurries about his chaotic life. There's also an egregious Game of Thrones reference here, too, with one of the characters.

Too often medieval fantasy ignores the consequences of personal choices and the workings of government in lieu of fantasy, but Helfer reminds us that logic and government affairs persists behind the public veil of "the dark ages" too, and that power can be just as fearful as magic.

More gay adventures in Argaea. If you enjoyed "Volle" and "The Prisoner's Release," then grab this too.
