I dont know whether this was the best ending ever or the worst. But the plot just blew my mind,it was so original and sensible.Vampires, pirates and a kick-ass story all in one book, thats what makes life good:P I was like:"ahhh,so this is what vampires are supposed to be,not glittering fairy princesses"

If justin somper had written twilight,it would be kinda like this:

there was once a vampire named edward:

then:

I think I have made my point clear, that is a.)JUSTIN SOMPER IS AWESOME!!! and b.)EDWARD IS A SPARKLY FAIRY!!(not exactly breaking news though is it?)

I love these books! My favorite character is Connor, the pirate! And Lorcan is my favorite vampirate! I love them both! If I were in Vampirates I'd want to be a Buccaneer with Connor, Bart and Jes!

Much much MUCH better than the previous two full-length books.

If this was just based on story, I’d probably give this book 4 stars. My issues, as always, fall with the writing. I just find the way Somper writes to be stilted and brief, often lacking detail to really make the world feel explained.

However, this story was great. The pace felt the strongest it has in any of these books, with the feelings, themes, and plot points feeling so much more exciting. The closed nature of one story with the adventure of the other worked wonders.

I don’t have much more to say. It’s given me faith in this series, and I’m excited to continue. The plot is intriguing and has been developing nicely, and I’m invested in so many of the characters. The ones introduced in this book were fantastic and are great additions to our story. I’m excited to see what comes next for the Tempest duo.

There's just something...something doesn't fit...
The book is called blood captain. Blood captain. During the course of the following stories, this title is used twice. Once in favor of the civilized community of mortal pirates as a ritual of respect. The second time, in favor of the most bloodthirsty Vampires, under the rule of Sidorio, in which Blood Captain is the name of his diabolic ship. I must remain suspicious about this... words... because, after all, it is the title of the book; it must have more meaning to the story. I think that maybe, just maybe, this is not the last time we hear of Blood Captain. Maybe, this term will appear again in this unraveling story and will change the direction radically.
The only thing I am afraid of and will question myself every day... will Blood Capitain be benevolent as the first time, or will it be on the dark side this time...

I loved this book. I like how Grace make the dangerous trip to the Sanctuary to save Lorcan. I like how she is show her own room, and how she makes sure that Sharie stays with her. I hate how they take the ribbons, and how it makes Sherrie attack Grace and hurt her. I like how Lorcan begins to regain his sight and how he will be fine. I hate how Oliver and Johnny betray Grace and join Sidorio. I like how Lorcan saves Grace from Johnny. I really enjoyed this book and would rate it 5 stars.

Picking up where I left off with the Vampirates series as they have them in my local library. I loved these books as a kid and still very much enjoy them now. 1 star down though as Grace and Lorcan annoy me to no end

Grace can't bear that Lorcan is sick, so she ventures ti the sanctuary with the Captain to help Lorcan heal. However, even there it's not as peaceful as it appears as Siderio is polluting the mind of the residents there too. On the other hand, Connor doesn't know if he still belongs to El Diablo after the death of his friends. He can't find peace and after dealing with the nephew of his captain, he needs to figure out what he wants and how he wants to live his life.

I've never read the rest of the books before, so I can't wait to see what happens after that cliffhanger!

Better than the last entry, some of the details were really vague which made me feel confused about the events a bit, but it was more exciting with the different action that took place in comparison to the last book.

Weird that they took a semi Buddhist angle to things there but it was fine.

We continue the adventures of Connor and Grace, Connor on the pirate ship Diablo and Grace with the Vampirates, who are off to Sanctuary to try and find some healing for Lorcan.

Like the second book, this one took awhile to really get started - I'd say it was a little more than halfway by the time things picked up. This wouldn't be so bad, as it's, in a way, a character based book, and I do like spending time with the characters - even when they do stupid and irritating things - but I felt that the parts with Connor, in particular, were rather repetitive and slow to develop.

I'm still not really sure what I think of Connor. He seems a nice enough lad, but his loyalties seem to shift with the wind. Of course, I'm not sure what I think of Cheng Li, either. Is she sincere in her beliefs and her desire to help, or is she manipulating Connor? Time will tell, I suppose.

As for Grace's side of things, while I enjoyed this part more, I also found it a bit more predictable. Once again there are rebellions and betrayals, but you sort of know who's going to turn from the moment they are introduced. It's rather obvious who's going to go bad - and sometimes I want to shake Grace for being so trusting. I mean, she's meant to be empathetic and understand people, but she keeps getting blindsided by people the audience knows are no good.

But, then, I suppose that's part of her compassionate nature - seeing, or at least hoping for, the best in people.

Anyway - aside from being slow to start, I was also irritated that it ended rather abruptly. Not quite a cliffhanger ending - but nothing was really resolved. We're left with new questions and threads which dangle into the next story (which I'm told picks up immediately from where 3 leaves off, so at least it shouldn't have the slow start that books 2 and 3 suffered from).

There are some things that I enjoy the slow unfolding for - but there are times where I feel that people are holding back for the sake of just dragging out the story and making it "more dramatic". Hopefully at least some of these threads are untangled by the end of the next book, or I might begin to get seriously annoyed.

Still, even if this is my least favorite of the series, so far, I still enjoyed it and it still has the ability to make me want to pick the book back up, and look forward to those moments when I can - and that's always a lovely feeling.

Even when I'm a bit frustrated with the plotting or the characters, I do, ultimately, like the characters, especially Grace and Lorcan, and look forward to continuing their story.

***

ETA: There was one mystery solved in this book (though it may have been stated in the first book and I just missed it).

I had been wondering what time period these were set in. We have the romanticized notion of pirates, sailing around on wooden ships and having pirate bars and whatnot... but we also have modern references to technology and other things.

Then it was mentioned: Two thousand, five hundred and twelve.

So, apparently, this is meant to take place in the future... which sort of explains, in some ways, I guess, how you get the mixture of old and new - one must assume that, somewhere along the line, the romanticized notion of old piracy took hold and became a thing.

But we're also left with a world which, technologically and socially speaking, hasn't really advanced at all in 500 years. Many of the references to technology (games/movies/slang) are thoroughly present day. There's nothing which feels futuristic at all...

So, um, some sort of post dystopian thing, or something?

I admit, that's one aspect of the story I try not to think too much about, because it doesn't' really seem fully fleshed out. I wonder if it will become relevant, though.

I had a hard time putting this one down, honestly. The storyline definitely unfolds more, and once you've started reading it unfolds rather quickly.
The ending was unsatisfactory, because of the cliffhanger-esque ending. Very much ready to read the 4th book.

The one thing that really keeps me from giving it 5 stars is that the setting keeps getting lost to me.

We're supposed to be 500 years in the future, but it really feels like it's set in the 1700-1800's. Yes, there are nods here and there to modern things and culture, but that gets lost in the "old world" piracy.

I love the story, though. That's what's kept me hooked in. :)

No i trzeci tor, to Connor - jedna z moich ulubionych postaci.

No co ja mogę Wam powiedzieć - czytajcie Wampiratów!

After the twins Connor and Grace went their separate ways in the world, nothing is really like it seems. Old friends are reunited and some new ones are made, but old enemies return also. Grace goes back to the Vampirate ship to help Lorcan heal his sight. They then travel to a place called Sanctuary which is his only hope at recovering his sight. Connor returns to The Diablo after the betrayal at Pirate Academy. Both twins are faced with tough trials and are constantly getting into bad situations.

I chose to read this book after the first two got me hooked on the series.

I loved the constant flow of the book, every page and chapter leaves you wanting more. I had a very hard time putting this book down! The characters and the conflict in this book make it great.

The only thing that didn't work for me was some of the plot, which leaves with questions that remain unanswered. This however, is no reason to not read this book.

Overall this was one of my favorite books of all time, and one of my favorites out of the series.

I think that this book is geared toward a younger audience in their teens, but I know many adults that have enjoyed it as well.

There is no real offensive material, only violence.

Ok just finished the book around five seconds ago... WTF that just happened at the end?
Let me just say the book was BEYOND slow paced. I would give a max of pages of it's boring content around 300 pages but infact my copy contained 569 pages which is around the double of what it should've been. The plot didn't move that much forward.. Man this book was like watching boring tide of waves. It was just terrible. And the end OMG the end that was just a bit HILARIOUS I actually shouted WTH because of how ridiculous it was.
I really wanted to write a proper review but this book already took more of my time than it deserves WAY WAY MORE. I will give the 4th book a chance since it seems like this book was the obstacle book in the series.
This book has been waiting on my shelf for over a year. And NOW I can see why.

I read the first two books a number of years ago, so at first I appreciated the brief recaps shown through the first few chapters. As I kept reading, I did not enjoy the constant switching between perspectives and the "filler"-style of writing I got from the text. Some parts moved very slowly, and some parts moved very fast. I'm not sure I want to read the other books in the series even though this ended on a cliffhanger and pretty much none of the questions raised were answered.

This season was spectacular & rouse my curiosity after leaving a cliff hanger. I hate cliff hangers but the book is worth it.

- Spoiler alerts -

First of all, I've never expected Grace & Connor's mother to be the Vampirate captain of The Nocturne even though I expected their mother to be a vampire after Mosh Zu said that Grace is "half". It struck me to the first book, Demons of the Oceans, where Grace was one of the most intelligent student at school and Connor was perfect at all kind of sports. DOESN'T that rings a bell? It shows that these kids aren't normal after all.

Secondly, I am truly glad that Connor left The Diablo, I didn't like Captain Wrathe much due to his selfishness and egoism acts. I hope his character develops into better in the other books of Vampirate & leave his egoism and proud self behind. It only causes unnecessary killings so I expect him to change himself before it causes chaos amongst his crew leading them to their ultimate demise.

Thirdly, let's talk about Sidorio, that annoying fellow who thinks of appetite all the time. He turned John & Jake into monsters & made Olivier betray Mosh Zu... that made me a bit unhappy because Mosh zu deserved better. But I am still wondering though, why couldn't Mosh Zu read Olivier's thoughts and feelings like how he did to Grace back then? I recall him reading Grace's thoughts so it was bizarre that he couldn't read through Olivier's feelings & thoughts. Just like Grace, Olivier was also considered to be "Half"...

Another thing is that I am still curious about is Sidorio getting anxious whenever he sees Grace instead of attacking her for her blood.

Lastly, I hope we get to see more of Mosh zu and Darcy in the other books of Vampirates.

This is probably the best out of the three i’ve read in this series - and I despise the second one - but i keep asking myself why i’m reading this lol.

I’m not the target audience for this.

I’m a grown ass woman.

There’s a lot that I don’t like.

I grumble and complain throughout 99% of this book.

So what bothers me? I’m not invested in Connor so anytime his chapters come up I immediately dread them. It’s boring. He’s boring. The series is called Vampirates, so why would I be concerned about the plot lines that dont have the vampirates? Also the story is weird, juvenile, and there are plot holes. In order to be on the Vampirates ship you need to go through the training with this master or whatever Mosh Zu, so wouldn’t it make sense that Lorcan has already been through these sessions? I’m confused.

Other than that - the reason I keep reading is because I’m invested in Grace with Lorcan. I have a ship and I’m sailing on it (pun intended). But whatever romantic action you get is so minor it doesn’t feel worth it.

Also not to be loud, BUT IT TOOK THREE BOOKS FOR US TO FIND OUT THE TWINS ARE AUSTRALIAN????? I need to call the police to report a crime because i’ve been reading this in the wrong accent and I am rightfully upset.

By far the best book of the series yet. While the whole arc about Connor being shocked that pirates do *kill* (he thought that piracy is a honorable occupation and at the same time detests vampires because they drink blood; even if they don’t kill but just need to survive) was still stupid enough for me to sigh out loud more than once, and Grace being a Mary Sue as she is, the characters in comparison to the two previous books overall made far less stupid decisions so I was actually able to enjoy this story. I liked the new characters and the direction the story went along, it actually was quite interesting. The chapters alternate between the perspectives of the two main characters and after each chapter I became angry because I didn’t want to switch to the other sibling but continue to read about the one I was just reading of! Which is a very good sign — I barely to never was bored from any of their chapters and the book kept me hooked enough to (re)discover that the story of the other main character is just as interesting as well.

This was such a good book. It was filled with action and Mr Somper made gutsy move after gutsy move, such as having Connor do something really bad to protect someone that he did not like and I loved how they was explored. I also like his interactions with the Vampirates, brief as they were.
Yet I found Grace's side also interesting having her investigate the ribbon and yet that leading her to explore her own powers same place aboard the Nocturne. I also found her relationships with each of the different crew members both vampire and human were all developed.
Yet the end had such a good plot twist that started out more like people drawing the battle lines but once they had been drawn the plot twist at the very end in the last couple of pages was well excicuted in a way that shocked me. Even though I suspected that there might be a family connection between the Tempast twins and the Vampire captain, I still did not guess that that was it!

I have read all the books in this series, and it still doesn’t fail to disappoint. This is my go to read for when ever your bored and need a good book find. Heres why:

1.Conner’s pov has such a good plot to it. He’s a pirate to a famous Captian and he loves his job. As the series goes on being a pirate becomes more difficult for him. Plus Bart is an absolute
angel/badass pirate.

2.Grace. Grace holds such a special place in my heart ! I love how she always looks out for everybody( but especially Conner and Lorcan). She is such a sweet human being, who I can’t wait to find more about!

Heres a special quote that I found by Mosh Zu that I absolutely love!

“ we cannot carry everyone else’s burdens for them. At times it might be tempting to try, but it makes us ineffective. When we start to swim in other peoples emotions, there’s always a danger that we may drown in them.” (Somper 393)

I have very mixed feelings about this book.

I liked it, yes, but did I ENJOY it? No. I can’t really tell what is the reason for it, but I just didn’t.

I think the pirate theme is fun and interesting, and pirates plus vampires? Of course I’m interested.

The main characters, Grace and Connor, have so different lives it’s nice to read about them. Their personalities show up pretty well but I just didn’t feel much connection to them.

The thing I liked most about this book was the chapters from the point of view of other characters than Grace and Connor, because those somehow linked to their stories.

The ending made me feel strange, it didn’t feel like the end of a BOOK because it was so indefinite somehow and left me unsatisfied. (I cannot write it here bc I read the book in Finnish).

Over all, it was okay. Just OK.

Third and longest so far in the Vampirate series and a bit of a mixed bag, while the saga of Connor got more interesting, Grace on the other hand went with Lorcan on a TEDIOUS journey quite frankly to cure Lorcan's blindness where she meets Olivier and Mosh Zu, this side of things only got better when a Vampire johnny Desperado who she aslo met tried to bite her and Grace found out that Olivier had double croosed her and Mosh Zu, doing a deal with the evil Sidorio, which was towards the End!
Meanwhile Connor gets to meet Molucco's broher Barbarro, his wife Trofie and their teenage son Moonshine who Connor loathes.A Good climax and an interesting scenario for the next book, but again all at the end, and i am still waiting for any of these to be as good as the first book or even better!
