The cat-tastic companion to Dogs Who Changed the World . 50 awe-inspiring stories of cats who have altered history, inspired art and literature, reunited lost lovers, saved lives, or just ruined everything. These inspiring, humorous, heart-breaking, or just plain weird stories reveal why cats have earned their place as our weirdest, most endearing companions, and how our fascination with them is age-old. Along the way you'll meet Félicette, the first moggy in space; Unsinkable Sam, a sea-faring feline; Tama, the railway cat who saved a community; and Snowball, the crime-solving cat. Cats Who Changed the World celebrates the unique relationship we have with our feline best friends, from contemporary times to all throughout history.
Cute in concept but the writing feels like a mix of AI and poor editing. At least twice there were comments about cats drinking milk, when any cat-informed person knows milk can be harmful to cats and they shouldn’t drink it. The author also used the word “plonked” two entries in a row, which I found odd. Just a proofread should have fixed that. The writing felt very impersonal. The art was cute but also so repetitive and simple that it wasn’t interesting anymore by the 50th cat. And I am a hardcore cat lady.
“So often, the story of a fantastical cat reveals something of the human who cares for it.”
In addition to enjoying the book's illustrations and soft, simple art style, I thoroughly enjoyed looking up the actual photographs of the cats and their owners. Learning about Hodge, who inspired his owner, the writer of the first English dictionary, was my favourite part! BRB. Searching for his first entry of ‘cat.’
This is a lovely book, suitable for gifting. The art is cute but inexplicably several cats bear no resemblance to the one they are supposed to illustrate... Poe's black cat is ginger, The Godfather's b&w one, is a brown tabby, etc I'm also surprised Larry, The Downing Street Cat hasn't made it in...
A collection of 50 cat stories including the first cat in space, those who survived insurmountable odds, and those that inspired some well known artists.
Of you are a cat lover and are looking for some amusement would recommend. Also, number 1 made me mad… they went through all that and ended up dissected.
this book had a few of spelling and grammar errors and in my opinion, didn’t show the cats here the reverence they deserve. several of the cats died and they said it so cavalierly ?
Cute book, with a fun collection of cats to read about. Did get some things wrong and didn't get into a lot of depth, though, which was unfortunate. But I knew multiple of the cats described, which made me so happy, as it was like recognising a friend somewhere haha,
Cute book, but it got some things wrong, such as describing non-tortie cats as tortoiseshells, or wrongly attributing the creation of Chesire Cat to C.S.Lewis instead of Lewis Caroll. Needed some extra revisions before being published. The companion book about dogs is notably better.
