I cannot praise this book enough. This is a book of Victor Hugo's drawings. It is written well and has a large format making the drawings easy to get into. Mostly washy sepias, these things are very lovely and quite advanced in terms of innovative techniques. Sometimes he would do a sort of initial aleatory splash of ink, find a realistic contour, and voila and weird seascape would emerge. there are little sea trolls, and grand houses made from his initials. He sort of had a weird thing for his own initials. This is great book for Hugo-philes.
