I don’t claim to be the most erudite person I know, or the best travelled, or the best read or the most knowledgeable. But im lucky enough to have access to some incredible people through my work and personal life and luck enough to be able to learn from them. Im also lucky enough to have the chance to read about history 100, 1000, 1,000,000 millions year in the past.... Here's the shizzle ... In all my reading and in all that I know I’ve never come across anyone as holistically great as as Imam Ali. He was the Prophets (pbuh) cousin and also his son in law (the prophet gave his daughter Fatima’s hand to Imam Ali). The book is very very simply written and is about his life and what he did at some of the very formative battles in Islam and how he became the 4th Caliph and how he was assassinated...... so - If anyone can tell me of a single person who HOLISTICALLY could match what Imam Ali was able to achieve in terms of his bravery, and intelligence and piety and altruism and benevolence and asceticism and oratory skills and wit and strength then I would be very interested to hear. Nahjul Balagha ( a collection of Imam Ali’s sayings, sermons and letters etc) still to this day is one of my all time favourite philosophical books. What a legend.
