The due date for her third book and her second son were on the same day...and both were early! When on deadline, she'd turn on the laptop between 4:30 and 5:00 a.m. to get a chapter in before work.

While the pace is often hectic, Gideon, a Gemini, enjoys tackling diverse projects. One month it’s researching the gritty existence of 1880’s Texas Rangers only to jump to modern themes of intrigue and possibly a legal thriller or two. Then, it’s back to the shadowy netheworld of shape shifters, vampires and movie serial killers. When not working on her latest plot twist before sunrise, even now that she no longer works 9-5, she enjoys indulging in Netflix, hosting her critique group, and feeding all things fur, fin and fowl. And, of course, reading.

This story focuses on Jacques LaRoche. A shifter that's well respected in his clan and all round, a good man. His world turns upside down when Susanna Duchamps enters his bar and brings about emotions that bubble up on the surface.

Jacque's senses swam with the perfume of her scent. It's seductive familiarity knotted him up into a hard ache of longing and desire he couldn't begin to understand. But he knew it. He'd felt the strange torturous pleasure, the hot, mindless euphoria years ago, back before his memories began. Again, his instinct remembered what his mind could not.

Want. Need. Craving so sharp it razored through his gut, then his groin, in swift, brutal strokes.

Susanna Duchamps is a geneticist who holds a secret to the Jacques past. Her vulnerabilty makes her hard not to love, but will it be enough to win back his heart?

The story of these star-crossed lovers is guaranteed to have you turning the pages. The writing is great, the sexual tension fantastic and the suspense just awesome! Also loving the secondary characters that all make an appearance in this. So good, love it!

Seeker of Shadows was really good - and that says something since it had one of my pet hates in a romance (a secret child). Jacques was just as cool and alpha as I expected he would be, Susanna was a little annoying and trusting sometimes but overall I really felt their connection. I love how the world still turns for the other characters and what happens to Max and Charlotte is a huge game changer. I hope there is more about it in the next book and that story arc doesn't stall for a couple of books.

I am enjoying this story so much. I have loved each of the books in this series and this one will certainly be added to the list. I have a little more to read but I wanted to jot this thought down.

Loved it! Better not be the last! :)

Seeker of Shadow by Nancy Gideon
Paranormal Romance -May 29th, 2012
4 stars

Susanna Duchamps owes the assassin, Nica Fraser, a favor. So when Nica asks her for help, she rushes to the New Orleans club where Nica now works. But Nica has a surprise for Susanna: Nica has uncovered Susanna’s secret work. Susanna is actually a geneticist working with shifter genes and is trying to combine and manipulate them. Nica wants Susanna to study the shifter regeneration properties in hopes that the ability can be transferred to save a human who is dying. But trouble comes when the owner of the club, Jacques LaRoche, instantly scents Susanna and wants her to leave. Something about her disturbs him and he finds himself alarmingly attracted to her.

Unknown to Jacques, he and Susanna have a past but his memories were brutally torn from him. While he has success and wealth, he lives in a limbo. He only knows he has a mate, but nothing else. Susanna draws him but she has dangerous secrets that she will fight to keep from him. Will Jacques be strong enough to work beyond their past and find a new future or will another man’s bid for power demolish it?

The beginning of this story is thrilling as an unknown woman seems to have betrayed her lover. I enjoyed this tantalizing prologue and piecing the puzzle of the mysterious woman while reading the story. Jacques is my favorite hero in the author’s shifter series. He is a lonely and sorrowful hero as so much has been taken from him. It made me wonder what his life might have been like if he hadn’t been betrayed. I especially admired that although he has suffered great injustice, he still has a deep and caring heart (that he tries to hide behind his tough exterior!) to help others. He is really a big softie! Past characters such as Charlotte and Max make significant appearances and keep this series together and evolving. The two main characters are so obviously meant to be together that it really pulled me into their stormy reunion. The longing and yearning they feel for each other make it very emotional and romantic.

This paranormal with its star crossed lovers who finally get a well deserved second chance will draw you in.

Seeker of Shadows had everything a good Urban fantasy should; shifters, danger & romance. Now truthfully there wasn't a whole lot of shifting going on. I have to say I enjoyed the way Gideon presented the powers of the shifters. They seemed more like seamless changes, as if we were dealing with the different abilities of one individual as opposed to people who are fighting their beast half. I'm honestly still not quite sure what the Chosen are. Super intelligent and mostly unemotional I guess they are the Vulcans of Earth, so to speak.

As the story starts out we find ourselves in a shifter bar where the main character feels very uncomfortable. Her race have been taught that shifters are stupid and over come by their emotions. Obviously this would make anyone a little cautious at first. But Susanna isn't totally what she seems and is able to look past the stereotypes and try to help those who she was brought up to look down upon.

I have to say I really loved this book. I was sucked in by the end of the first chapter and ended up reading the whole thing in one day. The characters were amazingly done. The type that really stick with you even after you close the book. Jacques is a raw yet caring man. Trying to do right by those who have helped him and also those who turn to him for help. Susanna is struggling with her own emotions, struggling to decide if it is better to give in or stay true to her race.

If your looking for a fast paced novel check this one out.

MY THOUGHTS
LOVED IT

This story starts off brilliantly with a lot of action in the form of a mysterious woman betraying her lover and you will have to read through the book to find the exact details. Susanna has turned in her lover, Jacques, all those years ago and striped his mind of memories. Now she owes the assassin, Nica, a favor that may cause her to betray Jacques again. Susanna is a hard character to unravel since she seems so secretive. It takes a few pages to really understand that her background and childhood really play into her nature. I did warm up to her though. Even though, Max and CeeCee are only briefly mentioned, I did miss the pair but this new arc of Susanna has drawn my attention. Gideon really knows how to weave a mystery with wonderful paranormal elements.

Jacques was totally swoon worthy and I like that he was much easier to get to know, even more so than Max. There are some seriously hot parts to this read as well as enough action to keep me interested. Since this is the sixth installment of the series, it does help to have read the previous ones but I think this one can stand alone because of the new characters and direction. I really enjoyed this one and fans of Larissa Ione and Nalini Singh should really check this out.

Jacques has stood by Max and Cee Cee from the first book. He's been their friend and closest ally. He deserved his own book. Yea! This is it.

Jacques lost his mate and memory in one fell swoop. So when this sexy doctor shows up trying to help Nica but she's more than what she seems. Dr. Susanna Duchamps has her own agenda and too many secrets.

This was a tough book. I didn't really like Anna, even though I understood her. I don't know if I would have done what she did or if I would have been more like Nica. I was so excited that Jacques finally got his story and that we learn more about his hidden past. Like the other Moonlight books, this features Max and Cee Cee, but less of them and more of Nica and Silas as they play key pieces in this puzzle. It also sets the scene for the next big Moonlight book. It's pivotal in the series. A must read.

In this installment, Jacques LaRoche was struggling between his loyalty to Max and the shifters who have loyally followed him, when his past came knocking.

His mate had betrayed him and left him for dead, and now she was in town helping Nica and Charlotte with research on helping Mary Kate. Susanna Duchamps was a genetic scientist researching shifters and chosen DNA. Her presence brings Jacques' past affects his loyalty to those who love him. But can he let her go again?

I liked Silas and that crazy assassin Nica more, but I still really liked this story. I also like the new developments in the storyline. I wish this series were on audio.

Nice pick-up from previous book (Hunter of Shadows). Glad to see Jacques (Jack) get his HEA. I liked reading more about Charlotte, Nica, Max, Silas. Very glad there are more books (just in e format only) since nothing was wrapped in this one. In fact, something big happens to a major character and the reader is left in limbo as to the outcome. This has been an excellent series so far with each book being as good as the last. I am one that loved Charlotte and Max, but enjoyed reading about other characters as well. It works.

As we move deeper into the world of Ancients, Chosen, Shifters...we find out more and more about what Max is and what dangers he and his clan are in. Susanna and Jacques' story is both heart-wrenching and beautiful. At one point I wanted to jump through my e-reader and strangle Damien. I don't believe we've met such a cold and heartless villain in this world thus far.

On to the next book...I need to find out what happens to Max!

Wow. Nancy Gideon delivers a terrific story with whopping impact. She made me love Jacques and ache for his lost memories. Then, she wrenched my heart with Susanna's secret. I so wanted those two to come together with no secrets between them.

Susanna knows exactly what she gave up when she turned her lover in years ago and her society made him “disappear”. She also knows it was for the best because a future for them was a bleak one. Never knowing what came of him other than he was alive was enough for her to attempt to move on. When she gets a call to return a favor in New Orleans she never expects to run right into him, let alone have to work so close she can smell him. The greater good prevails her sense of self-preservation but soon she is feeling those urges only he can make her feel. Can she finally take a chance with the one man she’s ever loved?

Living without a past is just part of the bad hand Jacques seems to have been dealt. Though he has picked himself up and is now a successful bar owner for the areas shifters. Things are looking up until Susanna walks into his life. Even if his mind can’t comprehend, his body is telling him another story entirely. Maybe it’s time he finally let the murky past go and embrace the future. A mate he doesn’t know shouldn’t still haunt his soul. Something about Susanna is calling to him on a primal level and even though he tries to deny it, the mind can only take so much before the body takes over .

Seeker Of Shadows is the sixth installment in Nancy Gideon’s Moonlight series. Up till the last book the series had pretty much only focused on the relationship between bodyguard turned millionaire Max and his human, cop girlfriend, Cee Cee. The last book, Hunter Of Shadows introduced two brand new characters, Nica and Silas. While some people enjoyed that story, I along with a lot of other readers really resisted the branch off from the main characters. I really didn’t get into that book nearly as much as I had when it was solely Cee Cee and Max. I even said in that review I hoped that if the series continued on, we’d get more of the original characters. In a way I’m glad Nancy didn’t listen to the outcries of some of the readers because I was happy with the mix I got when I opened Seeker Of Shadows.

In Hunter of Shadows I couldn’t connect with either Silas or Nica but I am happy to report I had no such issues with Susanna or Jacques. Even though Susanna is an extremely reserved character due to her upbringing and the society she lives within, I instantly saw a fire in her. Regardless of the emotional void those of her society functioned with, Susanna wasn’t like them. She fought for the people she cared about with a ferocity that I admired. Even when having to make the toughest choices she’s ever faced she did so with only the thoughts of those she cared for.

I enjoyed that the prologue shed light on Susanna and Jacques past without truly giving much away. Readers are left to wonder what would make Susanna turn on her lover and have him stripped of his memories of the past and dumped in New Orleans, so far from their Chicago home. Operating with the hunch that her contact can help the unique growing situation in New Orleans, Nica calls Susanna, a highly respected scientist, for help. Unknowingly Susanna walks right back into the life of Jacques, who has no memory of the mate he left behind along with the rest of his memories. The primal call to Susanna confuses him and he continually lashes out at her because of that.

As these two are thrown together and unwillingly have to work together for the greater good, the heat starts to rise between them to the point where it’s all they can do to keep their hands off each other. Susanna has to think of her daughter, who is sick, and what would be best for her and so she keeps the girls existence a secret from most everyone. The “mate” she left to take care of her daughter back in Chicago is anything but supportive of her mysterious trip to New Orleans and she is slowly starting to regret leaving her daughter with him. She’s also dealing with the uber sensitive knowledge she learns about Cee Cee’s health and she isn’t sure who can can trust with it. Though a breakthrough in the science surrounding Cee cee’s health is exactly what may save her own daughter.

One thing I’m starting to see as a trend in the paranormal romance realm is shifters that don’t shift. While I find that this leaves more room for actual story in a book, I do miss it. I admit, I like the savagery of it all when shifters become animal. I find I tend not to care as much when they shift and that just means some long nails or something.

Seeker Of Shadows is a sexy and smoldering paranormal romance that, while a diversion from the main characters, solidly stands on its own and is a great read! I enjoyed every minute of this one. Even the snippets we get of the overall bigger picture that still has Max and Cee Cee dead center.

I give Seek Of Shadows by Nancy Gideon 4 stars!

Seeker of Shadows, Moonlight #6, By Nancy Gideon
Grade: C-

“How can something make you so weak and so strong at the same time?

Jacques LaRoche woke up in New Orleans seven years ago with no memory of his past. Since then he has carved a life for himself as a bar owner and has proven worthy of the shifter clan in the area. Jacques may not know where he came from but he does know he has a mate out in the world, one who left him without any memories of their time together. Jacques has never looked for his mate but when Dr. Susanna Duchamps arrives in town his whole world is thrown upside down.

When Dr. Susanna Duchamps agreed to come to New Orleans to repay the woman who rescued her daughter she never expected to find her former mate and true love Jacques LaRoche. Susanna made an agonizing decision seven years ago that changed both of their lives but gave Jacques hsi freedom. The feelings between the two are still there but Susanna has to make sure Jacques never learns the truth of their past or he will never let her go.

I was very apprehensive about reading Seeker of Shadows after I DNFed the previous book in the Midnight series. This book was much better then Hunter of Shadows but it still had a lot of problems that made it very hard to read. I felt very lost at times and there is no background given. If you have not read the previous books you will be beyond lost and I don’t recommend it. Susanna is a Chosen which was not explained at all but from what I can gather Chosen have mental abilities and no feelings. The only way I wasn’t completely lost was because I’ve read Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changeling series and Chosen are like the Psy.

My biggest problem with the book was that it was all over the place. I felt like there was way too much going on and not enough explanation. I also had a big problem with Susanna and just don’t like her at all. I understand why she thought she needed to keep secrets from Jacques but I thought it just made her very manipulative and selfish. I couldn’t stand her by the end and was praying Jacques would see how horrible she was.

This is my second attempt with the Moonlight series and though I actually got through this book I don’t think I will continue reading it. I had a very hard time liking or caring about the character which makes it very hard to want to read about them. As I mentioned before also felt like I was reading the Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh which I am a big fan of. I tried to like this book but failed miserably.

Seeker of Shadows tells the story of Jacques LaRoche, the New Orleans Shifter club owner. He's liked by everyone and has a stern yet quiet demeanor.

Susanna Duchamp, a geneticist and Chosen, comes to New Orleans to repay a favor. We first met her in Hunter of Shadows when her kidnapped daughter was rescued by Nica. Susanna's appearance in town has Jacques in knots. He wants her to leave because her kind is not to be trusted, but more than that ... something about her hurried his heartbeats until his chest ached to contain them."

Seven years ago he woke up in New Orleans with no memory of his past. Since then he has worked hard to rebuild his life. But, he knows without a doubt that "... his mated female yet lived. Somewhere. He just didn't know how to find her." It's left him feeling as though he cannot move on and may never be happy.

Susanna is using this time away from her oppressed life among the Chosen in Chicago to feel again. The Chosen believe emotion is a weakness and they live in a somewhat sensory-deprived state believing themselves superior to Shifters. They do not give in to their baser instincts and certainly never those of their other half. She, however, does not feel that way. She mated a Shifter seven years ago, only to sacrifice their love for the safety of her daughter.

I really liked the continuity between Hunter of Shadows and SEEKER OF SHADOWS. I wasn't quite sure how I would like Nancy's Midnight spin-off, which strays from the once main characters, Charlotte and Max to focus more on the colorful side characters. But, I have thoroughly enjoyed the two so far and look forward to the next.

This is the first book I’ve read in the Moonlight series. It’s always hard getting into the book when you’re so far ahead, but the plot seemed so interesting I just couldn’t wait! Gideon gave me enough information to understand what was going on, but I was left with questions that would have been answered with the past five books. I’m definitely going to read the first ones to fully understand the sixth, but that didn’t take away from how thrilling the plot is!

Susanna made a difficult choice. She needed to save her mate, so betraying him and wiping all of his memories was something she had to do. It killed her, but it was for the greater good. It was very heartbreaking to see her leave the love of her life and that’s what sucked me into the next chapters. We fast forward years later and find out Jacques now owns a shifter bar and has become very successful. Susanna runs into Jacques while accomplishing a favor for a friend and the book heats up.

Sparks fly when Susanna walks into the bar. Jacques finds her attractive… no, MORE than attractive. Those thoughts are weird to him. Why is he feeling such a strong reaction to this woman? What makes her so special? He tries his hardest to stay away from this woman who randomly captured his heart.

First thing I have to say: RAWR! The romance in this book doesn’t disappoint. You really feel bad for both characters… Susanna is relatable, and knowing why she had to wipe Jacques’s memories tears her apart. The mystery aspect is great; every page is addicting. The reader will root for both characters. There is plenty of adventure and the plot is fast-paced. Everything came together nicely, and I’ve become a Nancy Gideon fan!

Jacques LaRoche is a man with a missing past, his memory was taken from him and he to this day longs for a mate he can't remember. Then Susanna Duchamps comes to town and he can't keep his thoughts off her.

Susanna sent Jacques (Jack) away a long time ago because she felt it was best for his safety , but seeing him again has shown her the error in her ways. Just his nearness threatens to undo the safety net she has created for her and her daughter in her world.

The story was nonstop, action at every turn. I thought the lost love and suffering female was a great story for them. Once I knew Jacques full story I understood now why he was always so surely in all the previous books. It made me closer to him in this one. I had always thought of him as an older man but I see him in a different light in this one.

I'm not at all found of the females in this series but I thought Susanna was ok, she fit her role awesomely and brought life to her character.

The overall read was entertaining with a few new twist to the already existing story and will be interesting to are how it all plays out next book.

I completely enjoyed this book. It starts with a woman betraying her lover then switches to present day. Jacques is the owner and operator of a very specific bar in New Orleans. Susanna comes to a friend's aid straight into the lair of the man she betrayed. She did it to protect him and a very big secret. Now, he knows only that he is drawn to her completely and she has a hold on him no woman has ever had. The problem is she is a Chosen and he is a Shifter, from two different worlds and classes.
Susanna is an intriguing character. She comes from a place where she isn't to show emotion but in reality is brimming with it. Jacques is a MAN and protector that can handle most anything. I loved the interactions between the two of them. Also Susanna's love for her daughter and her daughter's rare abilities is wonderful. The other characters make this story great as well. Loved the plot and enjoyed the whole book!
I rate this a 4/5. I really enjoyed all the characters!

Gideon's Urban Fantasy setting is like a tightly woven fabric that is held together with dynamic characters, and a suspenseful storyline. As an added bonus you get plenty of steamy interactions (aka sexy good times) between Susanna and Jaques, which satisfies the naughty romantic in me. You know you have one too! I'm not usually a fan of relationships destroyed with unthinkable hidden betrayal and rebuilt without revealing the entirety of the deception, but in this case, Susanna honestly could not see a way around her past actions and believed she was acting in the best interest of all involved. Her actions weren't malicious in any way, she just truly made a difficult choice and now sees the error. Ah, hindsight.

I highly recommend reading these books as a series as the progression relies heavily on people and plot that have been introduced in previous books. Nancy Gideon remains a favorite Urban Fantasy author!

I am so glad that Jack, Jackie or Jacques finally had his own book. I loved the whole lost love bit. Jack was every bit as wonderful as I thought he would be. But I have to say that when Max shows up he steals the scenes for me. It just made me miss Charlotte and Max all the more. I was dismayed at the antics of one of the characters in here. I mean I still like him but he is a bit lost at this point. I think that means he will have his own book as well. There was plenty of action and lots of sexual tension that was a slow boil until they finally got together. Lots of secrets and lies but some really sweet moments at the end. But WTH is going to happen to man Max? I mean really?? I was sad by the way that he was left off.

The first half sort of slow start but then it took off and I couldn't put the book down until I finished reading it. You find about Jacques life when he lived up North, finally he knows what happened. Also, Max has been captured and his mind has been wiped clean. I am dying to know what will become of Max since he doesn't remember Cee Cee and is giving her the cold shoulder. He seems more comfortable with his own kind. Want to see what happens in the next book. Glad for Jacques and his family.

second in the 'shadows' series by this author, and a spin-off from her supernatural 'moonlight' series of 4 books. the hero is a shifter who came to his senses 7 years ago with no memory of his previous life, and he has made a new life for himself, though always aware that his mate is missing. she comes back into his life even though he does not remember her, and reluctantly feels drawn to her. murder and mayhem commence!

Susanna has come to New Orleans because she owes someone a favour. Imagine her surprise when she finds the man she loved and bonded to just happens to turn up. He owns the bar where her friend works. But things are not simple between Jacques and her. Susanna's partner had Jacques memories wiped so he doesn't remember who she is. For these two to be together there is a hell of a lot to overcome.
