Beneath the surface of the world's waters lie landscapes, species, vegetations and populations as diverse and splendid as those on land, yet these kingdoms have been explored by few. Water Light Time is an extraordinary collection of photographs by David Doubilet, a pioneering artist and diver who is widely acclaimed as the world's leading underwater photographer. From the Galapagos to the Red Sea, from the Pacific shores to the fresh waters of North America, Water Light Time includes over 25 years of Doubilet's work, to reveal the mesmerizing beauty of more than 30 bodies of water rich with fascinating life forms.
A quite beautiful book that dives into various parts of the world's oceans to explore its many mysteries.
Whether black and white or in color, David takes you far beneath the waves. There are sharks and fish along with dolphins. Sea lions skip between pages of corals, crashing waves and cephalopods. The play of light varies in each while adding its own crowning touch.
The author writes an introduction to each and the writing is clear yet detailed. It gives you a delicious sample of what will be found when you flip the pages.
All in all a beautiful photographic collection for those who love the oceans.
My first book on oceanography, with ocean photography as its central and main course. Also my first Phaidon, (therefore shelved under "Visual Arts," aside from this is a collection of photographs) though my copy is secondhand, worn, but nonetheless, has been mesmerizing, sublime.
