Truth and Dare: One Year of Dynamic Devotions for Girls

Rate this book
Ann-Margret Hovsepian dares girls 8 to 12 to transform their lives and world through active faith in these short devotions featuring specific daily challenges that put learned truth into life-altering action.

Truth and Dare is a devotional that transforms Scripture from something learned to something lived. Each daily devotion launches with short Scriptures and simple, relevant messages (truth). Girls explore godly truth about everything from standing up for others to guarding their speech. And each day, girls are challenged (dared) to live out their faith by undertaking specific tasks that foster spiritual growth.

Girls will delight in discovering how Scripture can become real in whole new ways as they learn to apply it with each day’s dare. And parents value the solid truth brought by Hovsepian, a respected author and speaker. It ideally suits anyone looking to inspire a young girl to boldly live out her faith.

We've looked at devotions for the Tween boys and now here's one for the girls and reading through it , If I had been between the ages of 9-13yrs and gotten this devotional guide for my Birthday or Christmas as a gift, I would have been in devotional heaven as I flipped through it and read some of the daily devotions , it was just that awesome. Each Day , the devotions have a Title e.g The Exterminator , a section of the bible to read e.g Psalm 32 1v5 , a Truth - "Trying to hide your sins from God leads to worse problems and with that comes a 4 short paragraphs devotional message and a Dare - Confess your sins to God .... right away :). For those girls who want a bit more of a challenge and think that they are up for it - Truth and Dare contains what is known as a Triple Dog Dare ( the idea taken from the Boy's devotional) with three dares each day to step onto the plate and achieve - The Triple Dog Dare. 1) Whenever you feel tempted to hide a sin , ask God to give you the courage to be honest about it and make things right , 2) Play hide and seek with your friends and share today's verse about not hiding your sins from God and 3) Have you lied to your parents today, ask for forgiveness and at the end of it as Girls love to write , their is a part to journal your achievements- How did it go and What did you learn ? . Also throughout the book for those girls who have a bit extra time on their hands is activity pages.
The perfect devotional guide made especially for Tween Girls aged 9-13yrs.

This is one of the most gorgeous covers I have seen in a long while. Much like the Triple Dog Dare Devo, the cover sparkles, but this one is not dots like that one, it's like a glittery shattered glass or something - a creative confetti of shine. I think it is a great suggestion to have a thick devotional that shows a girl of ages 9-12 that she is really capable of a daily devotional that really can challenge her. Dynamic devotionals for girls. I love the cover, not just because of the sparkilies, but also because it is contemporary and vintage - calm colors and not all glam. Exactly the time of things that I would like to suggest to my girls as they come of age.

Truth and Dare, by Ann-Margret Hovsepian, is a fantastic, dynamic, one-year devotional for nine to twelve-year-old girls! Ann-Margret inspires, encourages, speaks truth, and dares girls to shine their light for Jesus at home and anywhere they happen to be. She challenges them to change where change is needed.

The devotional is filled with personal stories, puzzles, games, and triple-dog dares. It starts with a specific title, followed by Truth, God’s Word. There’s a section for ‘Got More Time?’ and journaling space to identify and apply what God has taught them during their devotional. Ann-Margret tackles the easy, light aspects of a girl’s life such as love, joy, thankfulness, etc., as well as the tougher subjects she will encounter as she matures, such as a deep faith in God and Jesus, prayer, forgiveness, dealing with family members, friendships, modesty, dating, sex, marriage, and even marital infidelity.

The devotional is set up for daily Monday through Friday separate devotions, and then a separate weekend edition. The variety of subjects and activities breaks the boredom of a regular devotional. The cover is absolutely gorgeous, girl-oriented, and relevant for today!

Girls need all the help they can get to grow up into Christ-centered women. I would love to see mother/daughter sharing as much as possible to bridge their relationship, giving an opportunity for prayer time for important issues.

Things in a girl’s life change so much during this age period, and it’s great to see someone tackle the issues and challenge them to live a Godly life.

As innovative and practical as this devotional is, I would love to see a new one year after year, even for the different age groups! Would have loved one for myself when I was this age.

One year of devotions written specifically for tween girls. Interactive daily activities to keep the girls engaged and excited about diving into God’s word! Designed to be used daily with Monday-Friday headings. The headings aren’t dated so the tween can start this study anytime of the year. The weekend picks up a devotion to expound on what the tween learned through the week.
Beginning with a scripture verse to read in their own personal bible, each day emphasizes a Truth from the word. Truths to utilize the senses, memories, and experiences to bring the Words of God alive.
Daily this devotional dares the reader to do 3 three things.. a triple dog dare!
The dares go along with each truth, adding emphasis to what was read and daring the reader to dive in deeper.
Then there is a section for journaling where some of the dares ask the tween to write something down that they learned, or leave a note to remind the reader of something later on.
Sometimes it is hard to find devotionals that are just right for the 9-12 year old age. Many of the teen devotions go too in-depth with subjects that tweens aren’t ready for. Many women type studies feel too ‘old’ for young girls. They need something energetic and relevant to where they are in their walk with God. Written to their level and for their experiences, Ann-Margret brings a very relevant and much needed devotional study for young girls. The best I have seen for this age group and highly recommend it. Perfect resource for getting the younger set to grown their habit of daily devotions, while at the same time helping them grow in God.

Title: TRUTH & DARE: One Year of Dynamic Devotions for Girls
Author: Ann-Margaret Hovsepian
Publisher: David C. Cook

ISBN: 978-1-4347-0208-1
Genre: Nonfiction/Devotionals

Dare to put your faith in action!

TRUTH & DARE is a great new devotional for tweener girls, ages 9 – 12. It will help your favorite tweener to discover the secret to life that sparkles for God. This devotional just for preteen girls will help you with God’s wisdom for everything from friendship and serving others, to getting along with your parents and worshiping God.

Every day, there is a short section of scripture to look up and read, then a devotional to read, some short questions to answer or consider, and a challenge to live it out. There is even some fun quizzes included. At the end of every daily devotional is a small journaling section with lines included for thoughts, prayers, and recording what you learned and how the challenge went.

Weekends have a slightly longer scripture reference to read, with questions to answer about it, and a bigger journaling space for more thoughts.

If you have a daughter, granddaughter, or favorite tweener girl, then TRUTH & DARE is a devotional to consider. Just for girls, it has a great girlie cover, kinda pale pink and sparkly, and it will bring the girl into word and get her used to having devotions. I’m going to give my copy to my nine-year-old for Christmas. I know she’ll enjoy it. This will make a great stocking stuffer for a girl you love. $14.99. 384 pages.

Being a busy mom with an 18-year-old and 12-year-old girls, I knew I wanted to pick this one up! The devotional is geared not just as a Bible Study for each day but it also provides an opportunity for my daughters to capture their thoughts on what they learned and what really spoke to their hearts during that day's devotion. There are even some challenges for them to complete and it provides a chance for parents to really talk to their girls about what is going on in their lives at that moment. For example, "Imagine for a moment what your life would be like if your parents (or parent, if you live with only one) suddenly disappeared. Write down some ways your life would change." Then at the conclusion it takes the teen into a prayer to reflect on thanking God for their parents and asking Him to help them give them the honor and respect they deserve. Try and find some ways to show your parents how much they mean to you.

This is perfect for preteen and teenage girls (9 through 14) in my opinion. There is so much to do in this one year devotional it will really provide them with a chance to see how much they have grown at the end. Because this devotional isn't geared to specific dates, you can jump in at any point and make it work. That's always a plus especially if you have multiple age girls! I received this book compliments of B & B Media Group for my honest opinion and highly recommend this to anyone who deals with preteen or teen age girls even if you aren't a parent. Hands down a 5 out of 5 star devotional.

Like the "Triple Dog Dare Devotional" for boys, "Truth and Dare: A Year of Dynamic Devotions for Girls ", is an eye-catching year based devotions, that girls will enjoy using as part of their daily devotional time.

I really enjoy reading and going through this devotional book and it is something that I think is just fun and inspiring for pre-teens to use.

The cover is eye-catching, and filled with basic day to day truths that are grounded in God's truths. Geared for ages 9 to 12, the girl(s) in your life will love how this will encourage them to explore God's word, journal, answer in depth questions and all within a short time frame.

The cover again, its so cute and eye catching and it is everything that a girl would enjoy including with her studies (including if she has a pink bible that has a glittery cover on it).

What makes this a great devotional is that it does what it needs to do, really encourage our pre-teens to develop the habit at an early age and not be intimidated about studying, reading and getting to know God's word.

This does it.

It encourages the girl(s) in your life to think about the real world applications about God's word and how it does apply in their life and like the boy's devotional, make it fun, exciting, applicable and its short so they can start, slowly, early on, developing a habit of reading His word, particularly if they haven't developed that habit early on.

The cover is glittery and pink, filled with all things teen. I love it! The pages are journal quality black and white with great graphics - making it ideal for teens and pre-teens who love to doodle and draw.

I am so impressed with this little devotional and so was my ten year old daughter. She was so excited when she saw it on my "To Be Read" shelf that she came running to see if it was hers when I finished looking through it. Well - as a mom that is exactly what I am looking for in a devotional - one that will spark excitement. Each day has a scripture, then a section called "Truth". In this section is a short and to the point devotional dealing with the truth of the scripture. Then comes the Dare - a challenge to apply the scripture to life with applicable things to be done. What I like most is the journaling section that asks the questions "How did it go?" and "What did you learn?" By doing this the girl is challenged to follow through with the dare and see what happens because of it.

I think it is just the right size for early morning or late evening devotionals for girls to do on their own.

Thanks B&B Communications for this review copy.
