There's something wrong when your final thoughts about a book are, "Thank God it's over!" I wasn't sure if I would make it through this mess of a book, but I am very proud to say I stuck with it all the way to the craptastic end.

The author's bio at the back of the book says Ayers likes to infuse her stories with humor... If this is Ms. Ayers' idea of humor, then I am sad to say it never matured past middle school. Completely horrible and unnecessary instances of phrases like, "See ya, wouldn't wanna be ya," clutter the story with juvenile interruptions that both distracted me and lessened any chance of me actually liking the book each time one popped up. Just so you know, they pop up a lot.

The main characters are flat and boring. Serah, the heroine, is a pretty two dimensional character with a bratty streak. Every time she had one of her abrupt and uncalled for outbursts, I honestly wondered if the author was channeling a teenager rather than a grown woman. Our hero Mathias is little more than a walking, talking slab of beef cake. Literally no personality. Supporting characters are what made this bearable, though still not good enough..

Reading this book made me feel like Ayers read a lot of romance novels and decided to take a crack at it by combining all the most cliche aspects of romance writing into one massive muscle rippling fest. And I don't mean that in a good way. Mathias' personality has such a low pulse that the author tries to make up for it by making his muscles ripple and his eyes burn with desire every other sentence. The man can't breathe without a pec or a bicep popping suggestively.

Recommendation Don't waste your time with this one unless you want a good example of what not to do when writing a paranormal romance. :

Maybe this book gets better after 32% of my kindle, I have no idea, honestly I had to stop it was so bad. I just got tired of her fawning over his rock hard abs and him over her. There wasn't really sexual tension, it was just pure annoyance and what annoyed me is how dumb she is. I just waited for her to idk figure out why she's so special, Hell, I was trying to figure out why she's so special but I couldn't go on. Which is rare for me, I'll usually will read a bad book to the end...I couldn't and I feel so bad because it seems as though Sidney Ayers is a self-published author. I hate giving bad reviews but when I read horrible books, I have to tell the world to not waste their .99 cents and just find something else. Unless you like annoying books where they can't keep their eyes off each other and trying so hard to be hilarious, this is the book for you. If you're willing to shell out some money, read the Kresley Cole series. The newer ones are questionable but the older ones are quite good.

When I chose to review Demons Like it Hot, I did not realize that it was book 2 in a series. So, it did take me a little bit to catch up as this story correlates to the first book of the series. In the first book, Serah (the heroine of Demons Like it Hot), and her best friend unleashed demons, and unlocked hidden powers. In this installment of the series, Serah has to come to terms with her powers and fend off demons that seek to kill her. Matthias Ambrose, a newly appointed palladian (think good demon), is put in charge of protecting Serah. However, Matthias has known Serah before, but he wiped her memory and he hopes that no one finds out the truth of his actions.

Demons Like it Hot is an entertaining book. The characters are full of humor and possess various supernatural powers. Serah is primarily a chef, and in Demons Like it Hot, she is preparing to be a guest on a popular cooking show, American Chef. This cooking aspect gives the book a new spin, and the setting is a fun one. Serah is in serious denial about herself though, she knows that she has powers, but she doesn't want to admit that she may be more than human. She is very stubborn on this point, and it gets really old. The girl sees and smells demons, her uncontrolled powers created chaos, and she is a target for demons but she still won't admit she just might be this "pure-blood" human everyone tells her she is. Not only is she wishy-washy on her powers, she is also very undecided about Matthias Ambrose, her protector. She is really a brat to him and she constantly goes back and forth between trusting and hating him. Matthias Ambrose himself is not much better. He is just as stubborn as Serah, and instead of telling the truth, he tries to keep secrets and makes matters with Serah worse.

The paranormal world in Demons Like it Hot includes demons of all kinds, angels, and even gods in human disguises. The world is definitely interesting, and something is always happening in the story. If the characters and the story hadn't been so hot and cold for so long, I really would have loved this one. Nevertheless, the story is entertaining and the characters are fun. I do recommend reading book 1, Demons Prefer Blondes, first though.

My Review:
Unfortunately, this was just not a book that I enjoyed. The possibility was there because the story line was good, but there were so many issues that made the book just annoying. The dialogue was cliche. The characters were constantly contradicting and repeating themselves. It was simply a frustrating book to read.

I still have no clue what being a pure blood means and this is the main reason why it's important that Serah stay safe, so I would have thought that, at least, would have been explained.

There is a huge ensemble of characters, including a really annoying Scottish cat/imp who was impossible to understand with the way that his brogue was written. Unfortunately, it seems like ALL of the characters were only there to point out how much Matthias and Serah love each other. This is something that at any given time, both Serah and Matthias were agreeing with or denying, depending on which page of the book you were on....over and over again.

I wasn't a huge fan of book #1 in this series, but it had it's moments of fun and humor, and I really thought that my issue was the mood I was in when I read it. Now, I am thinking that this is an author that simply doesn't suit my reading tastes.

Serah has been suffering a horrible string of bad luck lately and her friends are concerned for her safety. Serah may think she is just a simple human but her friends and Matthias know better. In order for her to stay safe, she must embrace who she really is inside. She just has to believe.

Honest truth...I imagined I was Serah and I had Matthias all to myself. :) He was so desirable (brooding personality and all) I could just eat him up! I think the thing I loved the most about this story was that Matthias already knew he loved Serah and was afraid to be around her. He wanted to do anything but be around her. Between the temptation and his guilt for betraying Serah, he wasn't sure he would be able to protect her. And of course we got to see that he was able to take the love he had for her and pull through. I love alpha males that take charge and get things done. *sigh*

All in all, this was a great book. I am now a new stalker fan of Sidney Ayers. I can't wait to read more. I am positive they will be just as entrancing as this one.

I loved this book! It was amazing! Matthais Ambrose is a demon who was put in charge to protect Serah SanGerman. Serah is a caterer who explosions and mysterious things happen to and can't explain them. While in the process of protecting her, she falls in love with him, so does he;he falls in love with her. An evil demon has entered their lives & Matthais and Rafe (Serah's best friend Lucys' boyfriend) go to Hades. They talk to the demon council and get permission to get silver blessed to kill the evil demon. And while this is going on, Serah is filiming a TV show. In the end there is a twist, but it was good! Yes, I'm leaving it at a cliff-hanger! I really loved how detailed it was, execpt for a few certain parts!, but it was good overall!

It was an interesting premise, just really hard to read. It took me over a week to read it, (normally I inhale books the same length within hours)it just didn't flow well. Iffy dialogue, repetition throughout, a lot of rabbiting on without anything really happening, Serah was too much in denial, it was almost tstl, Mattias was a bit of a cardboard cutout.
It is the second book I think, and you definitely notice this, it might have been a bit better if I had read the first one. *shrug*
But I did struggle through it... when normally I would just throw it aside and pick something else up.

Funny, feisty and freaking sex-a-licious!!!!

Ayers has crafted another "leave you weak in the knees" tale filled with demons and other interesting paranormal beings. Not one to leave anything to chance, Ms Ayers has penned a tale that was filled with action.....and ACTION ;) Can't say that I am surprised though. After reading Demons Prefer Blondes I have to say that this one didn't dissappoint. In fact it might be even better :)

This was a cute, light read. It was fun watching Serah and Matthias try to deny their feelings for each other. It was funny the way she ogled him, since he clearly wasn't the type of man she usually found attractive. The best aspect of the story has to be the humor. I LOVED Mr. Whiskers, a scotch drinking, cigar smoking imp in a cat's body. Wish we could have seen more of him and his Persian goddess.

A great read if you're looking for something light and refreshing.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

This is the first book by Sidney Ayers that I’ve read, and it was really cute! It’s a contemporary paranormal romance, which made for a nice break from the historical romances I’ve been reading lately. Demons Like It Hot is the second book in the Demons Unleashed series, and I suggest that you read the first book (Demons Prefer Blondes) before the second, because I was a little lost at times. Still, the humor and romance were fun, so I’ll be reading more of this author.

Serah SanGermano is a caterer who is deeply in denial about her growing paranormal abilities. She’s always been a bit clumsy, but suddenly she’s able to sense the presence of demons, and they keep appearing and causing serious mischief in her life. In the first book of the series, she and her best friend Lucy opened a chest, unleashing demons (Oops! Note to self: don’t open mysterious chests). Because Serah’s friends are worried about her, she’s assigned a demon bodyguard, Mattias Ambrose, hottie former demon mercenary. But Serah’s plans to drum up clients for her catering business by participating in the reality show American Chef complicates Mattias’s plans to keep her safe, as does the attraction he feels for her.

I love the sense of fun that pervades this novel. Ms. Ayers clearly enjoys her characters and employs humor throughout, which makes this a delight to read. There are lots of snarky jokes, and Serah’s cat, Mr. Whiskers, is a hoot.

The interaction between all the characters is a selling point for me as well. The romance between Mattias and Serah is sizzling, but I really like the strength of Serah’s friendships, especially Lucy. At first the host of American Chef seemed a bit off to me (he was so happy all the time I wondered if he was drinking the kool aid), but his character grew on me over the course of the book. And while Mattias was clearly a loner at first, part of Serah’s appeal for him is the sense of family and belonging he gets from her and her friends.

My one big complaint about the novel is that Serah is INCREDIBLY stubborn about admitting that she does have powers, and this gets annoying fast. She acknowledges to herself that something’s going on and that she’s never had these powers before opening the chest with Lucy, but she refuses to admit it to anyone else. This just drags out for too long, even after demons appear out of nowhere and attack her (at one point blowing up chocolate fondue – good times!). Her friends keep calling her on her stubbornness, but she keeps refusing to believe, which frankly drove me batty.

A minor point that bothered me was Mr. Whiskers’s accent. He’s an imp disguised as a cat to protect Serah, and his dialogue is all written in “Scottish” brogue. I usually have no problems reading accents, but this one was a bit of a struggle, which is a shame, since Mr. Whiskers is hilarious.

This was a cute paranormal with appealing characters and lots of humor. I like that there are good and bad demons, not just evil demons fighting the angels. The secrets in Mattias’s past kept me turning the pages, leading to a somewhat predictable revelation towards the end, but the path to the resolution was so enjoyable, it’s easy to forgive.

Ahhh, what a gorgeous cover, ain’t it? Gorgeous. But sort of misleading. Here’s why…

From the title and cover, I was expecting a lot of hot action. I shouldn’t have; there was a lot of fun, Serah is a firecracker, and Matthias is so uptight it’s hilarious, but the main elements here is angst, not hot action, and by that I mean one on one, fu~fu. In fact, there’s anything else but one on one going on most of the time. It was a lot tamer then I thought it would be. But I wasn’t disappointed by that in the least. Well…I mean, come on, demons? They should be having the hottest time imaginable…Aaaanyways.

It was a very fun and entertaining book, with a lot of humor. The characters are witty and have great sense of humor, or are funny being so uptight. I was giggling basically every time Serah opened her mouth to speak, she was hilarious. And she had awesome chemistry with Matthias; he is hot, he means business, and he’s cool. I wouldn’t say charming, he’s more the less talk, more action kind of guy, but he’s fun to read as well. And hot, did I mention hot?

The plot was engaging, and pretty active. I liked the twist the author gave to the concept of demons, and their activity. It was very original, and sort of nonconformist, which is always a good thing. Basically, Serah’s s being chased by someone all the time, and action-demon Matthias has his hands full both with her, and her chasers. I bet he loves it just like that.
I pondered on what I’d rate this book more then I did with others, and I’ll tell you why. Admittedly, what I read is an ARC, so this element I’m pointing out here might have been corrected in the final printed version of the book.

There was something that bugged me; I don’t really enjoy pointing out these things, but there it is, it bugged me. There was too much “Then again,[…]”. There, I’ve said it. I’m not an editor or an expert or anything, but it bugged me. Where it appeared, it appeared in clusters, and for the rest of the book, it basically didn’t. Now, there are some writing “ticks” that readers overlook easier then others, for instance “said” may be annoying if repeated a lot, but if it’s just slightly over-used, and the dialog requires it, you’ll skim over it when reading. But the “Then again […]” stuck and it sort of grated, especially because the book is well written, we’re not talking poor communicative skills here. So I think it’s like this freak fluke thing. Will everyone feel about it as I do? Not necessarily; but that’s how I feel, so I’m just going to point it out.

That being said, I enjoyed the book so much, it didn’t detract from my rating, upon reflection. I’d say instead of a full 4 butterflies, I’d give it 3,75 or so. Yes, I’m that precise with my feelings .

All in all, it was a fun, entertaining, original read, with awesome characters and a very vivacious plot. If paranormal romance is your cup of tea, give it a try. You might want to read book #1 of the Demons Unleashed series first, just because I’m sure it’s a lot of fun too, but you can just as well read it as a stand alone, like I did. It’s good enough to stand on its own, that’s what I’m saying, it does so with grace.

The premises for Demons Like it Hot was appealing and from the blurb sounded like a novel I would enjoy. Unfortunately though, soon after starting to the story I found myself struggling to continue. Hoping the tale would soon pick up and details would slowly be revealed I trudged through but in the end this just wasn’t a story for me.

I didn’t realize that this was the second novel in the series until I began it and quickly recognized that I was missing a large portion of the story and important background information. The main characters, Matthias and Serah, met in the first novel of the series, Demons Prefer Blonde’s, but Serah doesn’t remember any of it because Matthias has the rare and unique power of wiping memories. Now Serah is struggling to control her new powers while in denial of the fact that she is not quite human. Matthias, a newly appointed Palladian, has been assigned to protect Serah from nasty demons trying to kill her for her powers and now has to fight with the intense attraction he harbors for Serah while pretending that he’s never met her. And this is one of my main issues with the story; instead of flashing back to the period new readers missed or having Matthias ‘go down memory lane’ to the time he kidnapped, held and began having intimate feelings for Serah the whole instance is missing. Important first meeting, not even included. Now, if you read the first novel, Demons Prefer Blondes, then that’s okay because been there, done that. But if you are a new reader to the series this is vital information that you want to have, needless to say – Demons Like it Hot is NOT a stand alone.

Lacking information on the main characters was one drawback in the story for me but another were the characters themselves. Both Matthias and Serah indecisive in their feelings, actions, motives, EVERYTHING that a relationship between the two seemed inconceivable, I wasn’t buying it. This is one of those novels where the author’s ‘voice’ just wasn’t working for me either. The dialogue was choppy and intense moments would be interrupted by banal thoughts that popped up seemingly out of nowhere, ruining the flow of the plot entirely.

The world built around the characters is interesting with different factions of demons, angels as well as Goddesses but unfortunately when it came to the actually story it fell flat.

However, I will say that if you are already a fan of Sidney Ayers and have read the first novel in this series than you might enjoy this novel a little better than I did. Demons Like it Hot just didn’t work for me.

Contemporary Paranormal

Serah SanGermano has always just thought of herself as a very successful caterer. At least until her best friend, Lucy and she unleashed some demons from a chest. Now Serah is trying to hide her new abilities and deny that anything is different about herself. Everything in Serah’s life is changing and she isn’t sure if she can keep up with all the changes. Serah wishes she could convince her friends and Matthias that there is nothing special about her that she is just a normal person and she doesn’t have to face all that is happening around her but as much as she would rather not face facts fate seems to have other ideas for her.

Matthias Ambrose has been a demon mercenary for a very long time and now he is making some changes in his life. Part of those changes is his new mission and that is to protect Serah from the demons that are now after her. Matthias has secrets though that he would rather Serah never found out but if he isn’t careful that is exactly what will happen. Matthias needs Serah to trust him but when she can send that he is hiding information that makes it hard to earn trust. Matthias is going to have to decide if he can live with Serah knowing the truth about him and if it would help him to protect her better.

Matthias is falling in love with Serah but he is convinced that even though he fights on the right side his past will keep him from Serah as she won’t be able to deal with it or forgive for what he has done in the past but his heart isn’t about to let him leave Serah even if it would be for the best. Serah is not sure what to do with Matthias as much as she denies her attraction for him she is sure that he doesn’t want anything to do with her. With the demon gunning for her Matthias and Serah are finding out that they make a better team than they ever thought possible and if they can survive what is coming they just might be able to figure out what each of them feels for the other.

This story is well written and will keep the reader guessing as to what will happen next with all the action happening. This one will also give the reader a different twist to what they have read about angels and demons and other paranormal characters. This is fresh take on a theme that has been covered by others but with this one it will seem like a completely new type of story. This is one that is worth picking up and reading and will have readers looking for more books by this author.

The last thing he wanted to do was to be sent back to Earth to protect Serah. After all, she’s the reason he’s in trouble to start with…

This book has demons, angels, imps, succubus, and more. How about a talking cat that drinks scotch and smokes cigars? Yes, it has that, too! With all this magic and mayhem going on at once, it starts out fast and I zoomed through the pages to the end. The bad guys are really, really bad and they have magic to fight with.

Ms. Ayers writes a fantasy than tantalizes. Her story is vibrant, busy, and entertaining. While all these characters have various talents and skills, she gives them a touch of realism that makes you accept the premise of the story and has you rooting in the corner for Serah and Matthias, her protector.

Matthias has a history with Serah, but he’s erased her memories. When he finds himself falling in love with her and she demands to know his secrets, he restores her memories of that time. Bad move on his part, she wants nothing to do with the big bully. So they exchange barbs and barely tolerate each other’s presence throughout part of the story. The sarcastic comments are great fun. I like characters with quick tongues who can tease the other person.

I loved this story. It’s so good this book is going on my keepr shelf for re-reading later. I don’t keep a lot of books anymore, so this is a high recommendation from me.

Talk a walk on the wild side and try to beat the devil; what do you have to lose? Maybe more than you thought…

Serah SanGermano was 1st introduced in book 1 of the series Demons Prefer Blondes and in that book the author hinted that there was much more to her character than what she seems to be. Something's going on with Serah because things seem to heat up when she's around. When I say heat up and I really mean that. She keeps this info to herself and isn't very happy when Matthias Ambrose is assigned to be her bodyguard because Serah is actually pretty important. She just doesn't know it yet and is irritated when Matthias is around because not only does she not want him there but because she is extremely attracted to him. He just screams trouble and Matthias has his eye on Serah as well. They actually share a past, one that Serah doesn't remember and there's a good reason why. Yes I'm being vague in this review and it's because I don't want to give anything away. But as the story flows she learns more about herself and exactly how Matthias fits into her life. The characters from the first book in the series Demons Prefer Blondes also make appearances throughout the book.

Overall, I found the story to be entertaining at times and felt that the author's writing was great, but I had a hard time connecting with Serah and Matthias. For me there just seemed to be something missing that I just can't put my finger on. There were times where I wasn't enjoying the storyline and times when I found myself laughing at what was happening. I don't think I was able to get fully vested into the storyline because my feelings for it weren't consistent.

Demons Like it Hot
by Sidney Ayers
Matthias is forced to watch over a woman he can’t get out of his mind. Serah isn’t a normal human but she doesn’t understand why strange things are happening around her. Matthias and Serah must find a common ground in order to save the world.

Sidney Ayers writes a story that leaves the reader on the edge of their seat as the characters are thrown into dangerous situations. The characters are more than one dimensional, they have flaws and dreams which can get in the way of what they are supposed to do.

Demons Like it Hot is the sequel to Demons Prefer Blondes and many of the same characters from the first book show up in this book as well. I really enjoyed getting to know Serah better. She was only a secondary character in the first book, but she really rocks her own story. She’s feisty and determined to do what’s right, even when she doesn’t know what’s right. Matthias is a flawed hero who has his own issues and problems. But when it comes down to standing up for what is right, he is able to put aside his fears and protect Serah.

I recommend that you read Demons Like It Hot if you enjoy a fun, exciting romp through the world of demons and the people who protect the world from evil.

I was tempted by the premise of this paranormal romance novel, it sounded fun, the cover is great and I am happy to give a new series a try. Unfortunately within a few chapters I realised it wasn't going to for me, even though I forced myself to finish the book, determined to give it a chance.
For my tastes there was entirely too much angsty 'I can't/I can; I hate/I love' going on. The heroine was in serious denial about every. single. thing. and there was barely any room for a plot in between the wailing monologues. I also thought was a lot of repetition in both information and phrasing.
The talking cat with the incomprehensible Scottish brogue was a step to far for me. On the up side, I liked several of the minor characters like Kalli and Edie and the idea to feed the demons colloid silver was inspired.
While Demons Like It Hot didn't work for me, if you are a fan of paranormal romance then take my opinion with a grain of salt.

I really enjoyed this book. Instead of having a guardian angel watch over you, she had a guardian demon. She would have all these small klutzy things happen to her or around her and I thought she was just a klutz but really it was some mean demons that were messing with her but she didn't know it at the time. She finds out later that she has powers of her own that she ends up using. My favorite part of the book was about her cat Mr. Whiskers. I was laughing out loud at the part when she came home and found Mr. Whiskers sitting on her sofa drinking a scotch in one hand ,smoking a cuban cigar in the other hand, a pail of popcorn between his legs, the t.v. remote next to him and watching Mel Gibson movies! He also talks with a scottish accent with an attitude.Wish you would have wrote more about him. He was very intertaining!

This book has a bit of everything for the paranormal romance lovers out there. You have demons (good & bad), imps, succubus, angels, ghosts and goddesses.

Serah is a Pure-blood and the Paladins (good demons) are trying to protect her. She doesn't know what she is but she knows that she just wants to be a normal person. She wants to be a chef and nothing else but she is plagued by demons. The Infernati (bad demons) are determined to get to her and Matthias is going to protect her no matter what.

I liked this book. There was even a reference to the TV show Charmed in it. I guess the only thing I wished it that the author explained more about Serah and what she is. It is briefly talked about but not much detail is given. However, as a romance, this book had everything a good romance needed.

I don't often have a book that I don't finish and in the case of Demons Like It Hot, I'm not sure why but I could not get into the characters, or the campy humor. However, that isn't to say they were bad, just not for me. My recommendation would be that if you like comedic paranormals, like Mary Janice Davidson's Queen Betsey, then this is for you. Don't think this means I've given up on these guys though, I'm betting it's a mood thing and I'll pick this up at a later date. I'll let ya know.

AN ABSOLUTE SNOOZE FEST .........

When I first pick this book up from the shelf at my local public library and read the summary I thought the story will be enticing due to the summary I have just read , but as soon I began I am not even a quarter in to the novel I simply have to drop the book and return it because the way it began was just average , and even if I read it during the day I keep falling asleep due to the monotone dialogues of the characters .

This book isn't particularly special in my mind. It was a nice story with some cute parts (a whisky drinking, cigar smoking cat with a scottish accent is pretty amusing), but it doesn't stand alone against all the other paranormal romance i've read before. Its a nice book if you're looking for an easy read.

All I could think of without babbling like a dork is:
Some people like soda, some don’t.
Some people like pepsi, some don’t.
Some people like coke. Some don’t.
Some people who like coke do not like pepsi and wont drink it unless they want to drink something that is sort of like coke and is not water.
I like coke, this was pepsi.

This was just ok for me. I was kinda disappointed. I enjoyed Rafe and Lucy and more than Mathias and Serah. I kinda got bored with it, and Serah got on my nerves a lot. They were both so wishy washy it was annoying.
