Changing Plans #1

Getting Off The Ground

Rate this book
After being stood up at the altar, compulsive over-planner Elliott Chandler decides to turn a honeymoon on Oahu into a vacation for one. Fate puts a hitch in his plans, however, when the airport is snowed in and his flight is delayed.

In the airport, the jilted groom catches the eye of another stranded traveler—the laidback and very sexy Derek Windsor. Derek breaks the ice and strikes up a conversation, and as the temperature drops outside, the heat between them rises. Pity they’re both going to different islands, but if their flight doesn’t leave soon, Mr. Calm-and-Cool may just tempt Mr. Play-It-Safe to do something reckless.

And that plane isn’t going anywhere any time soon...

L.A. Witt and her husband have been exiled from Spain and sent to live in Maine because rhymes are fun. She now divides her time between writing, assuring people she is aware that Maine is cold, wondering where to put her next tattoo, and trying to reason with a surly Maine coon. Rumor has it her arch nemesis, Lauren Gallagher, is also somewhere in the wilds of New England, which is why L.A. is also spending a portion of her time training a team of spec ops lobsters.

Authors Ann Gallagher and Lori A. Witt have been asked to assist in lobster training, but they "have books to write" and "need to focus on our careers" and "don't you think this rivalry has gotten a little out of hand?" They're probably just helping Lauren raise her army of squirrels trained to ride moose into battle.

This was nice.

Two strangers hooking up in an airport hotel and changing their travel plans to spend the holidays together.

A cute concept. The characters didn't blow me away, though.

This is my first experience with L.A. Witt's books. Almost every reviews I read sort of informing that this story is only the first of two parts. So, I decide to wait until book #2 was out. I must say that I am charmed with this short story!!

The secret of the charm, I think, it's the adorable character in the narrator (Elliott) and the off-the-bat chemistry he has with Derek. It's not very often, when a story is written from 1st person, that you can get that chemistry with the love interest so strongly, because it is always feel a bit one-sided. You don't know what the other person is thinking. Not this time though. It probably helps because Elliott and Derek have that long chit-chat while they are waiting for the flight, so you kind of able to get an idea about Derek and his philosophy of life. Elliot's thoughts are amusing as well, can't help to giggle several times.

I thoroughly enjoy this set-up. While I know that it will end up somehow in the hotel (it's kind of predictable, when it comes to that, you know that the plane will be delayed to give chance for our MCs to have sex :p) but it is done with entertaining mood and just the right amount of seduction, it's so sexy and hot.

Now, I can't wait to read their adventure in Maui!!

”You know that feeling when you first meet someone, the sparks are flying, and you can’t think of anything except how much you want to touch them?”

Yeah, this is the precise feeling throughout this novella, and it is mighty stimulating.

Elliot and Derek

This story begins with Elliot being abandoned at the altar by his partner of six years and then eventually deciding to take their honeymoon trip alone. What I believe happens next is fate intervening. A snowstorm standing travelers at the airport, and an overheard phone call that disgusts one person, while intriguing another. Cue sparks!

The sweet and sensual relationship between Elliot and Derek ultimately begins from those first intoxicating moments of a certain, easy connection with another human being. A few comfortable conversations and some brazen confessions later lead to the discovery of a mutual attraction, which then triggers an impulsive and alluring invitation to spend the night together. And oh what an amazing night it is.

Naturally, with the undeniable chemistry they have together, one night is simply not enough. Such leads to another spontaneous decision to spend the rest of Elliot’s trip together.

With this being a novella, and only the start of something new and exciting, we are left with Derek and Elliot on board the plane preparing to spend the next two weeks enjoying each other’s company. Along with some promising plans for sex on the beach, of course.

This is my first L.A. Witt book, and after experiencing the beginning of Elliot and Derek’s relationship, it definitely will not be my last. I look forward to continuing their story in the next book Infinity Pools.

Basic premise, Elliott has been left at the altar by his partner of 6 years, Ben, and decides he will take the honeymooon anyway....alone. This puts the usually staid Elliott out of his comfort zone but he wants to change things up. Due to inclement weather he finds himself facing the prospect of overnighting it at Sea-Tec airport, God knows what a joy that is, being stranded at an airport. However, he has already noticed a rather cool, calm and sexy guy, complete with Hawaiian shirt and shorts, and this same guy, Derek, starts up a conversation with the somewhat reserved, yet interested Elliott.

When Elliott manages to snare a booking at a nearby hotel (always be prepared), you know where it's going. If Elliott is going to be stranded overnight with the sexy Derek, then all roads will lead to the hotel bed and a fling. I didn't care about knowing this, it was interesting reading the journey and L A Witt writes so well it's a damn fine one. You know what they say - the best way to get over an old lover is to get under a new one. Elliott does this expression proud in Getting Off The Ground.

I liked both of the characters - Derek is confident without being arrogant, Elliott is obviously unhappy about being jilted; but not stupid enough to miss out on an opportunity when it's presented. Besides, Elliott is OCD about having the best laid plans, everyone knows what happens to them, but Elliott has bravely devised a break-out list. Being with Derek helps him cross two 'to-dos' off that list. I'm sure the third goes in 'Infinity Pools' as, when we finish here, Elliott is going to Hawaii with Derek. So, there will be a continuation of their relationship in the next book. No complaints here, this book was a satisfying read in itself, with a hopeful outlook for the next part of their relationship development.

I've just recently discovered Ms Witt's books, and I've yet to find one I don't like. I love the real feel to her characters, they're always interesting, even the secondary/minor characters are written well. The sex is always erotic with a good build, and it's hot. The writing is flawless, and the editing always neat and tidy. I so appreciate all of these things combined.

Getting Off The Ground was a quick, sexy read of the highest order. Now on to Infinity Pools.

I was surprised how long this story took to er...get off the ground. Very little happened in this first of three books. It is one long piece of exposition and info-dump-back-story coupled with conversation that does not seem real.
I have no idea what kind of adult male has NEVER been inside a bar and needs a lengthy explanation of what happens inside one. The endless dialogue is broken up with a sex scene which is fine but these stories should have been released as one book.
What saves part one is the wonderful chemistry between Derek and Elliot. I like Derek a lot!
Now I have started the second part,I am pleased they are FINALLY in Hawaii!

An alright story, but it's clearly not finished, and there's some obvious padding to make it worth publishing seperatly (one chapter consists entirely of the characters entering a hotel and then getting to their room. Not the most gripping of things to read).

Sex like that didn’t feel like a one-night stand. His kiss didn’t taste like a stranger’s kiss, his hands on my skin didn’t feel like hands that would never touch me again after tonight...

I liked it a lot. It is the kind of deep connection where the characters bare their souls, no holds and no questions. It is fast, but it doesn't feel hurried or out of the blue. I really need to get the other books, I want to know!

This would have been good if the rest of the story were included. As it is, it feels very much like an unfinished work, and just wasn't that enjoyable.

I will include a review for the sequel, Infinity Pools. It's basically just one book but we somehow got tricked into paying for it twice. Lucky for Amber Quill and L.A. Witt, it's good.

You can tell this first novella mainly serves to set the stage for their relationship to develop in the following books. While predictable, the story was still cute!

Good on Derek for letting Elliott take the reins in the hotel room instead of forcing him into anything 👍🏼

I loved this. Great start to the series.

This was a great quick and steamy read. I had KU so was able to buy the audio for 1.99. Well worth the small price. Charlie David is a true performer. He is my favorite narrator to listen to.

Getting Off the Ground is the first book in the ‘Changing Plans’ series. It stars Elliott Chandler, a jilted groom, and Derek Windsor who Elliott meets at the airport. This story is told in first person through Elliott’s eyes.

The chemistry between the two guys is great, especially once they find some privacy, but it's too short to get more than a sketch of their personalities. The story sets up the foundation for the conflict, since Elliot is apparently a control freak and devil-may-care Derek doesn't believe in love. The story reads as an introduction to the second book. Sweet, but not entirely satisfying. So, I'm moving on to the Infinity Pools.

Good m/m romance about a guy who was left at the altar by his live-in boyfriend of six years. He decides to use one of the honeymoon tickets to go to Hawaii by himself and meets a very intriguing man in the airport when their flight is delayed. Please note that this is just the first part of the story - the second part will be released in a few weeks.
