Kotoko can’t believe that her most far-fetched fantasy has come true...she’s finally married to superstar Naoki! But just when Kotoko begins to feel like the coast is clear (for once), a honeymoon horror springs to life when a sexy troublemaker hits on her man! And what on earth could be keeping Naoki from officially registering their marriage, anyway?!
Tada (多田かおる) made her debut in 1977, when still a high school student, on Shueisha's "Deluxe Margaret" magazine. Tada's stories belong to the shōjo genre of manga and feature love stories centred around young female characters and their love interests. The storylines include comedic moments and are characterised by essential and sharp drawings. Some of Tada's most popular works are Ai Shite Knight, Itazura na Kiss and Kimi no na wa Debora.
Ai Shite Knight portrays the Japanese rock music scene of the early 1980s. The anime series based on Ai Shite Knight was the first ever to feature original songs performed within the episodes. Another of Tada's works, Miihaa Paradise is also set in the rock 'n' roll world.
Itazura na Kiss (Mischievous Kiss) - begun in 1991 and never completed - was by far Tada's most successful work in Japan. It tells the love story between Kotoko and Naoki from high school until after their marriage. The series inspired also an illustrated art book and two novels written by Nori Harata and published in Shueisha's "Cobalt" series. In 1996 a live action Japanese TV series based on Itazura na Kiss was also produced, starring Aiko Satō as Kotoko and Takashi Kashiwabara as Naoki. In 2005, the series was adapted into a Taiwanese drama under the name of It Started With a Kiss and in 2008 an anime was also released.
Kaoru Tada died in 1999 of a cerebral hemorrhage. While moving to a new residence, she hit her head on a marble table and fell into a coma. Three weeks later, she died. She was 38.
I love this read. I love Kotoko. She is such a fighter. Naoki (I love to call him Irie-kun) is a smart, but cold guy. However, I love his character as well. In this volume, they get married. I was so happy when Irie-kun finally admitted that he loves Kotoko. I was literally screaming while jumping up and down. I love his mom because she is exactly like Kotoko. I always say that Irie-kun has married a person who is just like his mother. Maybe that was what he wanted, even though, he never showed his mother any affection. She knows him. Hence, the wedding was soon after he professed his love. I think Irie-kun didn't sign the marriage registry because he wanted to see what Kotoko would do in order for him to sign it. Overall, a cute and funny read.
So this is the volume where Kotoko and Naoki finally get together, and after all that drama, I'm feeling very... conflicted. Because I knew they were going to get together, but the WAY they got together seemed controversial to me.
So now that this couple is together, I don't know if I can go on reading the rest of this series. It's ok while it lasted, but I'd rather read other shojo manga series instead.
Aw, very cute :-). And nice to get to the part of the story where Kotoko finally starts thinking about building an identity for herself that doesn't revolve around Naoki - doomed though her initial attempts may be.
More Mischievous Kiss. I recently heard a podcast about Japanese romances and the desire to live out fantasies that would be imprudent (or downright foolish) to pursue in real life. Maybe deep down I want a guy who is a brilliant genius who is so aloof that he doesn't seem aware of me at all...until he does. But of course not prudent to pursue because I value things like kindness and respect. Hmmm....
Bah. Is there anything I can say about this volume that I haven't about the last five? Kaoru Tada is consistent above all else. If you've liked the previous volumes you'll like this one. If you grow ever more frustrated with Naoki's insistence on constantly yanking Kotoko's chain then that frustration will continue. 3 stars
I absolutely loved this series! I found the dynamics of having two people in such close proximity to one another but resisting each other all the while quite appealing. Even though I did not really like the character of Aihara I did really enjoy her love/hate relationship with Irie and their conflicting personalities.
Finally they married, lol! It was funny. I just love Naoki's mom. Dang she organized the marriage in two weeks after Naoki agreed to marry Kotoko in future. Lol he didn't know his future will come fast, in just two week lol!! It was freaking funny and poor Naoki his childhood pics were seen by every guests! I can't help laugh out loud even now!
